Was just there over the weekend. We did order the big night out b/c we were with friends. I ate maybe 2 apple slices, 2 slices bread, 1/4 of the salad, and 1/2 of the meat. No dessert. It was a big waste of money if you look at it for the value of food, but well worth the money for the time spent with friends. My Melting Pot does not have a kids menu. I'd suggest ordering a smaller meal.

About the food=pleasure thing
tntransplant06 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm assuming it's the same for everyone as I've spoken to my husband about this and he's experiencing the same thing. After eating my meal, there is no more feeling of satisfaction or pleasure. After paying closer attention to this, I believe it's a good reason I got fat in the first place. I would eat until I got that feeling of calm, or as my husband calls it, food coma. That nice, pleasurable feeling of happiness. It's been 5 mos since I've had that feeling. Sometimes I miss it, sometimes not. The problem is, when I do miss it, I can get pretty ugly. (crabby, rude, mean) I think I've nailed it down to when I get really, really hungry and still only eat that 1/4-1/2 cup and get full and my brain is not on the same page as my stomach and I want to eat more (looking for that feeling to know I'm done). If I wait about 30min, that desperate feeling of HUNGRY is gone, I still don't get the pleasure feeling, but I'm ok. Have you found anything that supplements that feeling? -

That's kinda my experience, too, Kelli....eat about 1/4-1/2 cup and be full and then 2.5 hours later..HUNGRY! Trying to stretch it out to 3.5 hours before I eat. -
Taking 50 units of Insulin every night for 8 years. Off insulin completely 3 days after surgery with normal blood sugars. Diabetes, gone. Doc wasn't sure if I would be off meds completely b/c of how long I've been diabetic and how much insulin I was taking....I succeeded!

Drinking after meals...can I??
tntransplant06 replied to decamom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was a big drinker with meals before surgery so it was hard to not drink after surgery. About 8 weeks in, I started sipping with meals. Now, I don't drink with meals but I do drink before and after and don't pay any attention to the timeframe. It's just not comfortable to drink with meals, but if my body asks for a drink afterwards, I give my body a drink. Mind you, it's not a big guzzle of about 8 oz at a time, but a good swallow and then maybe another 10 min later. I try to listen to what my body is saying. -
Hey how long till PIZZA
tntransplant06 replied to BIG BOY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck with eating pizza. I will almost guarantee you won't like it any longer. I'm almost 5 mos out and it tastes like ****. Let me say a lot of things that I would eat with a vengeance before now taste like ****. I love my sleeve! (that wasn't sarcasm, I'm so glad to be over that!) -
Well after a totally ****-tastic weight loss for May, I am finally on the move downward again. HOLLA! What did I change?? Journaling. I am journaling every little morsel that hits my lips. I didn't journal at all in May (and I knew I was snacking too much). I paid for it with a 4lb weightloss for the month. Two weigh-ins into June and I'm already down 8lbs. Have to face it...must be honest with myself on what I'm eating and it all works out.

Still craving carbonation
tntransplant06 replied to AMLP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drink Soda. I've drank regular and diet. I usually sip from a can and have never finished one. I probably drink 1/2 the can. Can't drink it fast like before surgery, I just like how cold it is and fizzy. It usually takes me a good 15-20 min to drink the 1/2 can and after that it's not cold enough any longer and no longer desirable. I'm almost 5 mo post-op and probably had my first sip of soda about 3.5 mos out. Just know it may not taste the same to you and it may not be so desirable. That's the case with me, anyway. But, that's how everything is now. Nothing tastes the same and nothing really satisfies how it did before. This is a good thing for me -
Stalling at the worst times!!!

Stall: I survived and beat it!
tntransplant06 replied to bilka's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine arrived last month. I wouldn't call it a "stall" but I'd lose one week, gain the next, lose the next. So for the month of June I only lost 3 lbs. I'm off to a better start this month with 3 lbs down the first week. I stressed at first, but then got all logical about it. It's IMPOSSIBLE NOT TO LOSE WHEN YOU'RE ONLY EATING <1400 CALORIES A DAY!! Period. The body is just adjusting, wait it out, you'll be good. -
I agree with TODREAM. It's a tool, I plan on using it like skinny people do. Do skinny people have on occasion the things listed on the "never" list? Yes. So, yes, I've broken the rules a few times. Moderation is the key for me. I am in no way offering advice for your situation, just telling you my take on the "never" list.

How do I know if I'm full?

How do you know when you're full?
tntransplant06 replied to bert's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's difficult feeling to explain, but you recognize it immediately. And my best piece of advice is, the minute you feel it STOP EATING! If not, you will revisit what you've eaten and be very uncomfortable until it is expelled. I kinda feel a bubble. The best way to describe it is imagine a lava lamp and when those bubbles start floating to the top, I imagine that's what it would feel like. BUT, the bubbles don't go back down. And if you take another bite, the remaining bubbles are going to keep climbing up, too with nowhere to go. Imagine also like when you have to burp and that gas bubble rolls up and is expelled BUT it won't expel. You just get that rolling up and then uncomfortable until you throw it up. It's not painful just very very very uncomfortable. You will make the mistake (as I have) of trying to drink it away to burp, or shoving more food in to push it away, but it never gets better, only worse with those things. You just have to learn to stop. Period. STOP THE MINUTE YOU FEEL THAT Bubble. I won't seem like you've eaten enough and your brain will try to fool you into eating more, but trust your sleeve. You cannot. That food will last you about 3 hours and then you'll be hungry again and you just do it all over. I eat about 5 meals a day that are from 250-350 in calories each. -
Am I eating to much?
tntransplant06 replied to trinhle905's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's hard to say...I know I couldn't eat that much at one sitting at that point, even now I'm at about 1/2 cup max. Do you feel fine eating that or is it uncomfortable? -
GOODBYE 300's!!!!!!!
tntransplant06 replied to Curvy8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I celebrated that milestone myself! I know the feeling! Been out of it for good for a few weeks and am glad to never be going back. Focused now on getting under 275....small goals make this much more fun! -
Do you still get hungry?
tntransplant06 replied to Ready4aNewLife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
AND DO NOTE: YOUR TASTES IN food WILL CHANGE!!! The things you LOVE now, you may not later. I've found this true in many foods. Now the only things that I REALLY love and would eat everyday are homemade hamburgers and chicken nuggets. Everything else, not so much. -
how long will i need help with my kids?
tntransplant06 replied to valentine's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
How long is a piece of string??? Only you know how much time your kids "normally" need and how you respond to being "out of commission". I only needed a week. My husband didn't need but a day. There is no accurate answer, it's dependent on many factors. I'd allow at least 2 weeks, if I HAD to give an answer. -
Hardest habits to break/adopt
tntransplant06 replied to Douceur72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drink with meals, I do drink Diet Soda on occasion (though it doesn't taste very good to me any longer), I haven't given up coffee (but I drink it maybe once a week), and I do eat in my car out of paper bags (not meal deals, but maybe a kids hamburger, or something off kids menu). So, there's a few things I can relate to. It's not necessarily about giving up things, but learning to have them in moderation. I think the only thing I really am sad to have given up is Motrin. It was a great pain reliever for me and nothing compares. That is one rule I will adhere to faithfully. Snacking has been a hard one for me. The kind of snacking when you're not really hungry, but bored. It's about finding something to replace that. I'm working on it. -
Do you still get hungry?
tntransplant06 replied to Ready4aNewLife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My hunger went away only for a short time. After about 6 weeks, it returned. It's not voracious but, it's there. I no longer get headaches or migraines from my hunger, but it is enough to make me eat. Some days it's strong, some days barely there. I think my stomach is now working how it should've long ago. Don't let the worry of being hungry not let you do this procedure. It's well worth it. -
Why must I finish it? WHY????
tntransplant06 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why does that last 2-3 bites left on my plate EAT AT ME until I eat it or trash it??? I am full. I am full, I don't need to eat it. I AM FULL---DON'T EAT IT!! It still bothers me to leave those bites there. Something to mull over and banish! -
Why must I finish it? WHY????
tntransplant06 replied to tntransplant06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it's b/c we were so poor when I was young and my mom always said we need to finish this bc it's not easy to get and there may be a day we don't have anything. nice. That poor shit affects me in so many ways. I'm hoping my counselor will help me move past it. -
Which Michigan VSG surgeons are the best?
tntransplant06 replied to debby01's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dr. Wood, Madison Heights. A pioneer of bariatric surgery, good rates if you are self-pay and awesome support. Also, a Center of Excellence doctor. I traveled to Mich from Tenn to get the surgery. It was $10,500 total. Hospital and all. Very pleased and giving him rave reviews!! -

How long is a piece of string? -
You wanted to be thinner. You got the sleeve. Now you complain you can't eat a lot of food. Hmmmm....step back and look at what you just typed and are thinking. Did you think nothing would change? Try to make a positive out of this...you are losing weight...isn't this why you did this surgery? Don't look at what you aren't gettting but what you ARE GETTING! HEALTHY!!

I won't go into a long story, but I can tell you I am in the same boat. I've begun counseling to try and figure out "why". It's really been a good thing for me. Maybe you can look into it? Many reasons go behind it and without discovering them, maybe you can't move past it? I've totally been a member of the clean plate club and it KILLS me now to see all the food I leave on my plate to be thrown away. Why is it such a big deal??? It just tears at me! And I also have to get past this grazing thing I've got going on. I hope you can find a solution!
