The more I eat, the more I lose, the less I eat=STALL
tntransplant06 replied to USMCwifeandTEACHER's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I am a stair-stepper, too. Frustrating to say the least. I will lose about 3.5 one week, nothing the next, gain .5 the next, nothing again, and then lose another 3.5ish. I'm experimenting with my calories, too. I'm maintaining about 1100 a day, then I walk and burn off about 250. Sometimes I'll eat again to get back up to 1100, sometimes not, sometimes I'll eat way more and get up to about 1800. I'm still experimenting, but I've found that I do lose better if I eat more than 1100. As weird as it may sound, I'm kinda uncomfortable doing that, terrified I will post a big gain. It's a struggle in my head for sure. -
Hit a Plateau! Help!
tntransplant06 replied to slimsinger's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This has been discussed over and over...it's the six week stall....look in some prior posts to learn all about it. -
Just looking for comparison After eating, when are you hungry again? I'm talking belly growling, feeling like you need to eat something, not just the "I want to eat b/c I'm bored" I'm finding I eat about 250cal for Breakfast, then 2 hours later my belly is growling. I try to make it wait another hour and then eat about 100 calories. About 2 hours later I'll eat lunch which is about 300 calories. About 2 hours again, I'm hungry. It's now about 3:30 and I have to wait until 4-ish for dinner. I eat another 300-ish calories and then at 7, I'm hungry again. I'll have a snacking throughout 7-10p of about 200 calories. I then walk a mile and burn about 300 calories. I might or might not eat a few slices of cucumbers or a slice of cheese right before bed. I'm just wondering if anybody else finds themselves hungry frequently. It's nothing like the ravenous hunger I had before surgery, but it's a gnawing that feels like it could turn ugly.

Hunger--the time game
tntransplant06 replied to tntransplant06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've just become a nibbler...I have to face it, mealtime does not really exist for me any longer like it used to. I fix dinner for my family (my husband had the surgery, too, so i'm basically cooking for 2 young boys), we eat a few bites, watch the kids eat, then clean off the table. About 2 hours later we have a snack. I have to get used to the idea that I eat 6x a day now, not 3 big meals that keep me full for hours. Kinda sad to me, but it's a fair trade. -

Heatherr, As I don't know what you weigh, I don't know how much you're burning when walking. I walk 3.2mph on my treadmill w/ an incline. I found a calories burned per exercise calculator on the net that you put in your current weight, what you're doing and how long and it tells you how much you've burned. That's how I determined walking at that speed burns that many calories. I actually count it as less than it said, just for good measure. -
Losing slow..diabetes and hypothyroid?
tntransplant06 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had diabetes and still am hypothyroid.....I am on a huge dose of Synthroid....would you say that's why my weightloss has been sucky the last 8 weeks? Anybody have insight into this and what I can do to shake it up? I was losing about 1.5-2 lbs a week and the last 8 weeks have averaged -.7.....YES POINT 7....a week. About 2.8 a month...frustrating to say the least. I've done everything my NUT says and still, sucky. She said if in 2 months it's the same, we'll talk with the surgeon. Well, I don't want to wait 2 months, I want to kick this in the butt and get something done. I'm kinda depressed and po'd. I'm in a pissy mood, been that way for about 4 weeks. I'm doing everything right, I'm fighting off hunger pains and getting madder and madder b/c I feel like it is as before the surgery, starve yourself, workout, have no weightloss. I know my metabolism sucks, I was told that by my doc and she said I would never lose more than 40 lbs on my own---which is true! That's why I've had the surgery. I'm at 63 lbs in 6 months. I lost 59 of them in my first 4 months...the last two months, 4 lbs total. To top it off, my husband had the surgery the same day I did and he is still losing like crazy. I think he's at 90 lbs. I know, don't compare...but hard not to when I'm completely stalled and he's still dropping weight and is NOT hungry. I don't know what to do, I don't want to be pissy like this and unhappy and worry that this is all I'm going to lose. I had to pay for this surgery and right now I don't feel all that money was worth it. I just want it to work. I'd be happy if I only lost 88 more pounds. I'd LOVE to weight 199. Really, I'd feel pretty damn good, but to be in the 280's for weeks is not good. So, off to the treadmill I go again...praying and begging the whole workout that I'll lose at least 1 lb this week. -

Fainting! Warning
tntransplant06 replied to SouthernSleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I believe Atkins does qualify as that. That is part of the reason ketones happen. When the body doesn't have sugar for a source of fuel, it eats fat. That's why people who have no idea they are diabetic can drop a ton of weight really quickly until they are diagnosed. I can almost bet if all of us checked for ketones we would show we are spilling some. My good friend did a metabolic study when she was pregnant for her endocrinologist and they were doing experiments with the amino acids. If I remember correctly, trying to find a way to reduce insulin needs based on the way the body uses amino acids. It didn't work for her. I'm not sure if the study is still going on. -

We will have to agree to disagree. Blood sugar is not affected by protein in the fact that it will spike your blood sugar is a true statement. Proteins do not spike blood sugar. That seems to be what Southernsleever was stating. She thought her blood sugar was off but she ate bacon so that wasn't it. If the episode was caused by low blood sugar and she dismissed it b/c she had eaten bacon, the bacon would not have risen her blood sugar rate to ward off an attack. That is why diabetics, when having an attack, drink orange juice, sugar filled sodas, candy, whatever has sugar in it-to raise the blood sugar. Bacon would do nothing. I wasn't being rude to you, I was just stating that I believed you were wrong and stated why. If you took offense, please read again. We both just wanted to help her, but stating that proteins will raise her blood sugar is incorrect, and actually, could be quite dangerous. Maybe it's just in your wording? -

Starygirl--are you diabetic to know that answer or are you just copying and pasting? I was a diabetic for 10 years. How does food affect your blood sugar level? In diabetes all foods are not created equal. Not all foods have an adverse effect on blood glucose levels. Which foods are unlikely to affect your blood sugar? Protein and fat. The foods that least likely to cause a blood glucose spike? Non starchy vegetables. Mixed/combination foods will cause a lower post prandial rise in blood glucose. Not used much in this country as a guideline to control blood glucose is the glycemic index, which simply put gives an idea of how carbohydrates will affect blood sugar levels two to three hours after eating. The best site to read up on the glycemic index is mendosa.com, it is simple and thorough. From my diabetic ed class....I think being taught this and also monitoring blood sugars after meals and noticing no affect after eating protein (bacon included) gives me clearance to state the bacon did not raise her blood sugar. Now, read this link...look for bacon....NO GI LOAD---which means doesn't affect blood sugar http://www.myfit.ca/glycemic_index.asp It's nice you want to help, as I do, but don't guess, it could really give a person the wrong information. -

Blood sugar is not affected by protein. It is affected by sugar, hence the name blood "sugar". The fact you ate bacon before you passed out, has nothing to do with your blood sugar. My guess is dehydrated and overheated. -

has anyone sucessfully talked their Dr in to a smaller bougie size?
tntransplant06 replied to MeMeMEEE's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, the only way I can forsee you will regain weight is if you go and eat all junk. (please correct me if I'm wrong, people) I'm currently eating 1400 calories a day and am losing 1.5-3 lbs a week. I can't imagine eating more than that....well, let me clarify....if I eat cake, chips, candy, and all that b/s it will up my calories and i'll gain. But, if I stick to a healthier diet (eating those things occasionally) how can I regain??? -
Slider Foods?
tntransplant06 replied to Bryn Dawson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
And make sure you avoid them as good as you can!! They most all have high calorie counts and add up quickly b/c they go in so easily and don't upset your stomach. I got stuck on a potato chip kick for days and it was ugly. -

tntransplant06 replied to Luv4me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1200-1500 calories is not too much. You should eat no more than 1400, though. I am losing 1.5-2 a week avg on this. Make sure you walk/exercise 30 min a day and it'll balance out. I, too, have the up 1 this week, down 3 next, stay the same the following. My body just loves it's fat, apparantly. As long as the trend is always downward just know you're doing it right. It really is not a race, as some people on this board tend to make it. You should lose 6-10 lbs a month. If you are, you're doing it right. -
regular, low fat, fat free???
tntransplant06 replied to Kasie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
regular only. Used to be light freak, but as I don't eat near as much as I used to, I know the Regular is ok to eat. NEVER FAT FREE---gross! -

tntransplant06 replied to MeMeMEEE's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is no reason to. My doc (w/out me asking) told me what size he used and why. He said anything under that did not guarantee any additional weightloss but did have more complications/nausea/etc. Sometimes it's just better to go with what the doc's that do this everyday know. My doc was a pioneer with this surgery and has been doing weightloss surgeries for 30 years. I trusted him. You should trust yours, he really knows what's best, and like my doc said, it won' t guarantee you any addl loss. -
Anybody have a guideline? My nutritionist said 1200-1400. Sounds high, although I'm having no problems meeting it.

5 mos calorie intake
tntransplant06 replied to tntransplant06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, my carbs are def too high. So, my goal is 60g per day now. Less if I can. My calories I am setting back to 800-1000. This will be difficult bc I have been eating 1400. BUT, most of the calories have been carbs. My weightloss has been about 6-8 mo eating 1400 but it's up one week, down another. I bought a treadmill yesterday to GUARANTEE I walk everyday. 30 min is what I'm starting at..hopefully up to an hour after my first month. -
5 mos calorie intake
tntransplant06 replied to tntransplant06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hmmmm....that concerns me. I can eat 1400 easily. Don't know that I could only do 800. I'm going to try and go to 1000. I eat about 250 per meal (3 meals) and then eat a few snacks throughout day. Maybe if I go strictly veges during snack time it'll help.. -
PS...I'd keep an eye on your stomach scars and when you're fine with how they are healed, then you can guess that's how your inside scar looks, too.
-
Yes, much too early. I was told to wait until 6 mos out. You really don't want those little kernels to get caught in you seam line, right? Nuff said.

The nausea,when does it stop?
tntransplant06 replied to Alexander's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did they give you a prescription for nausea? I was given Reglan and it really helped. I ate those soups at your stage. I had the cup of Soup type and had no issues. Maybe try blending them up a bit so they are true puree.
