So HUNGRY ALL THE TIME! Please help
tntransplant06 replied to NotSoLittleMermaid's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@Purple Tulip...yes, Prevacid is over the counter, even better yet, you can get it in generic. I just got mine at Walgreen's. It was on sale. $19.99 for 42 pills w/ a $6 cash register reward. I turned around and used that $6 reward to buy another 42 pills. I didn't feel heartburn or acid, at least, I interpreted my hunger pains to be hunger pains, but maybe it was really acid?? I don't know. I don't care--it works! I take one pill in the morning. -

I wanted to add that I, too, started using Prevacid a few days ago and the hunger is gone. I had the never ceasing pain of hunger. I started taking the Prevacid and the constant hunger is gone. I now get hungry at what I deem to be appropriate times. Hungry when I wake up, take a pill, eat an hour later. Hunger is gone until lunch time. I eat a snack around 3 and then dinner at 5. A snack at night. NO HUNGER. I hope this medicine continues to work this way. It makes me wonder if all that time before surgery, for my WHOLE FAT LIFE, was it just acid?? Matters not, I guess, as long as it's working now. -

8.5 mos out...lost 75 lbs. Eating 1500 calories a day. Been messing around with the same 2 lbs up and down since Aug. 25. Went on vacation, didn't pay attention to a thing I ate or how much and I came home to see a 4 lb loss! YAY! Lowest I've been. Stepped on scale today, a week later, have gained 10 lbs. REALLY??? I've never gained 10lbs in a week in my life. I'm so p'o'd right now. I am confused and upset. I dropped a size in clothes this past 5 weeks during the stall, so yes, it appears I've lost inches. But that glaring 10lb gain is fogging over everything. Not to mention I've been fighting HARD my hunger. I am hungry. Really hungry. Like, getting shaky bc I haven't eaten feeling hungry. I eat about 300 calories for Breakfast at 9a, in about 2 hours I'm hungry. I try to fight it off for another hour, have a snack of about 150 calories, then eat lunch at about 1p of another 300 calories, and again I'm hungry in 2 hours. I eat a snack of about 150 calories again. I eat dinner at about 4:30 using about 350 calories. At 7p, I'm hungry again. I know I only have 250 calories left so I try to stretch it out until 9p but sometimes cannot. My go to foods when hungry are usually pieces of cheese or ham/turkey deli meat. Maybe a few crackers with it. It had been in the first few months of having this surgery that kind of hunger meant I was going to have a great big loss when I weighed in the next week. Imagine my surprise stepping on the scale and seeing it UP 10lbs. I about threw up...for real. I did swear and kick the scale. Real grown up of me. Damn I was angry. So, any ideas?? (and no, I'm not putting that damned 10 lb gain on my ticker below...so na nee na nee boo boo) -

I don't get the "don't eat bread"
tntransplant06 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This was not a restriction put on me by my doc. I've been eating it since I've been able to eat normal food. Granted, not eating it like I used to, but eating it nonetheless. I refuse to go the way of "no carbs" as that is not the way normal people eat. True, carbs go down much easier, but everything in moderation will not harm you. My advice would be don't eat carbs alone, make sure you are eating protein with it and try to make it more protein than carb. If your doc is advising against them, find out why. There are so many different opinions by all these docs, it drives me crazy! Why can't there just be a "gold standard"? -

Tried a diet soda today....

The thing with Carbonation is it kinda feels weird at first bc there is no room for the bubbles to float up in your stomach so you can burp easily. It's kinda uncomfortable at first, but if you take little sips instead of big guzzles you are fine. My doc did not forbid carbonation. Everything in moderation is his motto....aside from Ibuprofen...that is the only forbidden. I def wouldn't recommend sugared drinks, though, no empty calories allowed! -

Feeling discouraged
tntransplant06 replied to juzmejnee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am with you in the slow loser club. I average about 5 lbs a month. Average. This month I lost 3 lbs the first week, have not done anything the past 2! It's frustrating but I'm trying to learn not to sweat it. Trying. Adding insult to injury, my husband loses about 8lbs a month. He's almost caught up to me in actual weight. (meaning we almost weigh the same) If he catches me, hell hath no fury. LOL -
Down -3.3lbs this week. This after -.7 a week for months! What did I do differently? I stopped walking my treadmill for a week, I drank more Water (but still nowhere near 64 oz a day like recommended) and I didn't pay much attention to what I ate or how much. I tried to listen to my body and eat accordingly. Basically quit micro-managing. None of this makes a bit of sense to me, so just letting you know there isn't necessarily a RIGHT thing to do. This sleeve thing confounds me. Still not sure what I'll do for the next week aside from trying to keep my water intake up. Probably the same thing. I'm betting I'll have a gain next week, that's the way my body works. Keep on keeping on.

RESULTS FROM UPPING CALORIES
tntransplant06 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
went from 1100 calories per day to: 1281, 1100, 1164, 1736, 1500, 1528 respectively +2.2 gain this week I mean, really, HOW CAN someone who weighs 285lbs gain on an average of 1400 calories a week. Really?! So, who's got the winning game plan? My plan is back to 1100 calories, walking 30min a day and drinking Water. Betcha I'm lucky to lose 1 pound next week. -
RESULTS FROM UPPING CALORIES
tntransplant06 replied to tntransplant06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My thoughts on the 1400 calorie average: It's not too much. More than an average sleever eats, yes, but my nutritionist said 1100. I've been doing that and losing slowly. Wanted to kickstart my metabolism, but didn't work. 1400 calories is LOWER than what my doc put me on before I considered surgery and weight watchers had me on 1800. I don't believe it's too many calories. I do know there is an issue with my metabolism as I'm hypothyroid and my doc told me bc of my issues I'd never lose more than 40lbs on my own. She was right, I was never EVER able to go beyond 40lbs before surgery. After surgery I'm at 65lbs lost, but now my body is doing what it did pre-surgery and it's just fighting me the whole way. I was hoping somebody had some magical potion to kick my metabolism's ass. -
Upping calories to lose weight
tntransplant06 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm testing it out and petrified! I've been averaging 1100 calories a day and walking for 30 min. Been in a funk w/ weightloss for about 2mos. Was averaging -.7 lbs a week..that sucks to me. So, after reading about starvation mode when you aren't eating enough, I decided to try and fool my metabolism. My weigh in day is on Friday. My calorie counts thus far starting on last Saturday are: 1281, 1100, 1164, and yesterday a big fat 1736. May have to try another higher one today. Anybody try this and have it work? I decided to just suck it up and if I get a gain, I know I tried. I'm at 675 calories today so I'm gonna have to nibble nibble nibble today to get there. -
sever sharp pain under my drain tube site. 2 weeks post op.
tntransplant06 replied to Jacsmom161's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They didn't give you a girdle at the hospital?? Wow. This girdle I received is all stretch and adjustable. It's like wrapping yourself with a big ace bandage but more support. It really helped. The pain is coming from your belly weight pulling down on your muscles they cut to do your surgery. If you get some support of your belly, and hold it up and in, it lessens the pain and helps you heal. I'd call and ask the doc about one. -

How many times and for how long were ur stalls?
tntransplant06 replied to Loooou's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc/nutritionist has my husband and I on 1100 calories a day. It's not hard to do, really. I eat 3 meals a day at roughly 300 calories each and then fill the other 200 calories with snacks. -

tntransplant06 replied to Loooou's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ongoing stall....I am just like Southern Sleever above. I stall for 3 weeks and then have about a 3lb loss one week. It's frustrating. My average for 2 mos was -.7 a week. Yes, point 7. Now for some reason I've gotten to -1.25 a week. Whoopie. LOL -
sever sharp pain under my drain tube site. 2 weeks post op.
tntransplant06 replied to Jacsmom161's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If it's what I had it's a muscle thing that happens to some. I was only ok if I was lying down. I was told to double up my dose of pain medicine and REST. Also, wear the girdle thing. It took about 2.5 weeks to go away. The key is to REST. I'll say it again. REST. It will go away. -

Yeah, I said it, Baskin Robbins IS EVIL! I was jonesing for some chocolate peanut butter ice cream tonight, so I went and got it. Yeah, that's right, WENT AND GOT IT. 650 calories later, feeling a bit like it wasn't worth it....but I did enjoy it. Nice treat...not to be done everyday.
