When do you know it's time to focus on maintaining vs. losing
Used2b575lbs replied to Used2b575lbs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you all for your advice, I know it's silly to worry about something like being a skinny weakling when I was once 575 lbs but it is a worry of mine I just am trying to figure out what my healthy weight will be where I can still have some muscle even after the cosmetic surgery but am healthy as well. -
Question for those 8 months post op or longer
Used2b575lbs replied to sleeve 4 me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I still take my Vitamins because I am still predominately eating Proteins and I know i'm not intaking anywhere near the amounts of fruits and vegetables I used to eat. Also Calcium for my bones. My labs are also good and I do get a monthly B12 shot. I know that sometimes it takes weeks to months for deficiencies to show up and once they do it will take just as long for the levels to come back to normal. Even healthy people take vitamins so I will continue to do so... -
When do you know it's time to focus on maintaining vs. losing
Used2b575lbs posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have always been big and i'm approaching a goal that seemed so far away 22 months ago and now i'm wondering how much more do I lose? How much more can I lose? and How much more should I lose? Has anyone else dealt with this problem, I mean at this point it's a great problem to have but it definitely weighs on my mind... I was 306 lbs at the age of 13 I went on WW and got down to 245 the lightest I have been since I was 12 years old... This past Saturday I weighed in at 248 lbs just a few pounds to one of my huge goals, so it got me thinking hard about what do I do now.... I lost 200 lbs prior to surgery and have lost 127 lbs since last July... last week I lost 2 lbs the week before 4 lbs, I am 6'1" have a large frame and have been doing weight training so I am somewhat muscular... I do plan on getting cosmetic surgery and while I don't know the exact figures I believe I heard somewhere that this will remove another 20-30 lbs of skin and fat. Being that I was once 575 lbs I don't find this hard to believe, plus I see it in my abdomen and thighs Just wondering if I should switch my mindset or do I just keep losing and losing... My BMI according to the standard BMI calculator is still obese but I don't know how much I should trust that based on three factors... I have a large frame, I am somewhat muscular, and I have a lot of excess skin. I did set my ticket up so that my goal would be to no longer be overweight by the standard BMI calculation if that's the case I should try and lose 59 more lbs but I don't know that seems like a lot. Thanks in advance for any replies -
your welcome, just saying while this is the greatest thing i've ever done for myself that you must set realistic expectations, and there may be times your not doing as well as you'd like but if you focus on trying to do the best in the long run and doing what's right you'll eventually get to where you want to be!

I have been on and off here for a bit now, I have crossed the 9 month point and am approaching my one year mark.... For me it's a wild ride especially at the scales I had another great week and lost 10 lbs but the two week previous I gained 5 lbs total and I looked at my weigh in records as I attend weekly meetings with weigh ins on Saturday and since the beginning of December (5 months) I have lost 33 lbs, that's the good news. Out of those months i've weighed in 19 times (8 times I gained, 1 was exactly the same, and 10 times I lost) The reason I decided to post this topic is because if you pay attention to any one weigh in, or set of weigh ins you may get discouraged. Stalls can be disheartening and so can gains. You must stick with it and keep working to do what you're supposed too!!! The weight will come off but the body acts in funny ways I gain 2, gain 3, and lose 10, I gained 3 lbs over 7 weeks then lost 8, etc etc etc Now I know some of this is my own doing as i'm not always 100% on point with my nutrition but I also know that some is my body just trying to slow down the weightloss. My point is don't get caught up on the slow losses, the stalls, and the short term gains, if you do what you're supposed to do often enough it will come off. I have now lost 124 lbs since the surgery and 324 lbs overall, of course my body and my mind go on weightloss vacation occasionally and I may lose some battles but ultimately I will win the war. Good luck!

pre-op and post -op coffee drinking
Used2b575lbs replied to kemo46's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stayed away from it for about a month as it was hard to get in all the protein and water but once I was getting that in I added decaf and at about 6 weeks I started drinking regular and i've never looked back. I only put skim milk in it as I always have so it's not too bad and I havent had many ill effects occassionally it will cause reflux but that is rare. -
BMI is easily skewed by muscle and bones mass, really it's a joke... I do know one thing though I am a lot happier that mine is in the 30's and not the 70's any more

I'm over 9 months out and while I know I still have some weight to lose, I am also dealing with this same situation. I have been kind of living life the past 3 months and some days doing what i'm supposed to and others not. I was very heavy when I started so if this is where I stay I would be ok with that especially because I know I have lots of excess skin that will eventually come off. I'd like to lose 20-30 more lbs but i'm not going to stress about it, I have a big build and a decent amount of muscle so I don't really believe that the standard number is my true BMI What I don't want to do is lose too much weight to the point where I then gain weight at the end... I just want to get to that point where I can comfortably maintain

Some of these calculations and statements are funny but I will say theres a definite difference and it's all for the better... I've lost almost 320 lbs and it definitely has helped in this area tremendously

congratulations what an inspiration! I'm trying to get out of the 250s but my body is being stubborn and my mind is trying to sabatoge me

You are doing wonderfully, everyone loses at a different rate, and everyone has a stall here and there.... I do lose 100 quickly but then over the next 7 weeks I lost nothing.... Slow and steady wins the race I actually know someone who had a bypass and lost so fast that it really messed them up... Follow your doctors plans and you'll get there
