    Getting Sleeved Young

I don't know about 18 but I do wish I got my sleeve a lot younger... At 13 I was 306 lbs... I did weight watchers and was 245 lbs at 16 by 20 I climbed up to 415 and never saw lower then 395 lbs until 2010 when I was 32. If you've tried dieting and failed then go for it!!! Good luck!

    Soda Question

Thank you! Some members of my family have suggested it but i'm not sure it's for me. I also want to get to a stable healthy weight before entertaining anything like that.

    Stalled

look up 3 week stall it is very common... I myself stalled for 7 weeks at 6 months out. Just keep following your doctors recommendations and contact your nutritionist. Your body may have gone into starvation mode stopping the weight loss. You may have to try getting in some liquid calories to let your body know everything will be alright. Good Luck!

    Got my date!

Best advice is to follow your doctor and nutritionists plans, and walk after surgery as soon as you can and as often as you can. Bring some comfortable footwear that can slip on and slip off
  7. I was shaved didn't even remember it, don't worry about doing it before hand they'll take care of it if needed.

    Soda Question

I used to drink up to 4 liters of regular dr. pepper a day, I also would drink 6-12 beers a couple of times a week, I stopped drinking soda and beer daily about a year before the surgery and allowed myself a few of each beverage once a week, the eventually twice a month, once a month then one last time 2 weeks before the surgery. Now at 8 months out I haven't touched either beverage, though I do drink coffee, as a matter of fact I only drink Water and coffee these days and my coffee only has skim milk in it... no sugar or sweetners I haven't had alcohol as I was also told to wait about a year before drinking.

800 Pound Gorilla in the Room

I am 8 months out and haven't drank, before surgery I would easily consume 12-24 beers in a day but the doctor told me nothing with carbonation. I'm not big on the girly drinks or those that mix with juice so I haven't been enticed but I do know that many start drinking not to long after surgery say 4-6 weeks out. As far as hot sauce and hot foods i'm an addict and my first and second meals (cottage cheese, and egg whites with cheese) I was able to have after surgery both were smothered in it. I didn't go for the Dave's though I've had it in the past, I use chalula (sp?)... I've also had many buffalo sauces and habanero and jalapeno and serano chili peppers and on and on... The chili peppers made me tear up but didn't hurt my sleeve. Of course this was a question I asked in my orientation and my nutritionist said it was fine and tolerated by most. Hope this helps... Good Luck!!!

Doc says to increase my calories

milk is my go to it adds some calories and some protien, nuts would be another good idea for this purpose provided you can tolerate them.

    Breaking up with food

Honestly even after 20 months of losing weight 300+ lbs lost and the surgery 8 months ago I still haven't fully mastered the technique but i'm a lot better at it. You have to focus on Protein, and for me what has worked is only allowing myself to eat 3 or 4 times a day. At first you probably won't even want to eat all you have to, I know I couldn't but eventually you will have some room. I try really hard not to eat junk but sometimes I do, what has really helped is most often I don't beat myself up as much for the slip ups. Some days are better then others and there are some days where I am way off track but this is a marathon not a sprint and as long as in the long run the weight is on a downward slow or around steady you are a lot better off then when you gained in the past. Without the surgery I probably would've gained back most of the 200 lbs I lost pre-op instead I've lost over 100 lbs more. You will figure it out and find your own way to cope, i'm still working on it but am a lot better then I was thanks to my sleeve.
  13. 5 times and I remember every painful gross sliming puking experience Deli Turkey chicken Parm Boneless chicken wings Pork Chops Hamburger I have since eaten all of the above again, I think the reason that this occured was eating too much too fast and/or not chewing properly. The first time was the worst time deli turkey stuck for 90 minutes, drinking Water just caused more sliming. I hate to say it but after the 2nd time I learned how to gag it up, still not pleasant but beats that it hurts so bad stuck and hopeless feeling.

6 Months Post Op - Pictures & Comments

    wow how inspiring congratulations!!!
  15. It took me about a week to sleep comfortably in my bed and it's low, my advice would be to take it slow and if your climbing up there and don't feel comfortable don't go any further. I needed painkillers for the first week to knock me out so I could sleep comfortably as i'm a stomach sleeper.
  16. Nobody here will tell you it's easy... but nobody here will tell you not to do it. When I was 575 lbs it wasn't easy to get out of bed, get dressed, go to work, walk a flight of stairs etc.... I did have comorbidities (hypertension and sleep apnea) and I had a severely shortened life sentence.... I moved back in with my parents at almost 32 years old started eating right and exercising and trying to get this surgery... It took me a year to get the surgery between insurance companies, my job, and the fact that they didn't want to operate on a 500+ lb or even 400+ lb man. In that year I lost 200 lbs it wasn't easy...Blood sweat and tears for sure I got the surgery July 12th at 375 lbs... I was 275 lbs within 6 months 100 lbs lost.... I thought this was great and so easy that I started to reintroduce the crap that got me to the heavy weight I was previously. For seven weeks my weight fluttered up and down but I gained only 2 lbs and I didn't pay too much attention to what I was eating. I made sure I was eating only 3 times daily and not eating past the limitations of my pouch. I think the most important parts of the surgery are to eat Protein, drink Water, and don't graze/snack... and of course follow your doctor/nutritionists orders If you can do these three things you will most likely be successful... If you do a few other things like exercise, and watch your carb count you can really lose quickly but it's all up to you. Gaining those 2 lbs over 7 weeks was a wake up call at just over 6 months post sleeve... If you don't use the tool properly it will not work. If you eat protein first you won't want to eat the junk or if you do you won't have that much room for it. I'm now down 317 lbs and i've eaten some crap let me tell you... Just the other day I had a donut, one day I had a cookie, but i'm not eating one dozen donuts or Cookies every day... The thought of that makes me nauseated I couldn't even imagine eating that much at 8 months out. Good luck in you decision!!!
  17. Congratulations what an achievement!!!

    53 day stall

I would try calorie cycling 2 days at lower calories and one day at a higher calorie level, possibly even try carb cycling too and make one day a week a higher carb day. Also make sure you're eating a wide variety of foods.

    Weight Gain/Weighing In

After losing over 100 lbs in the first 6 months I spent 7 weeks on a stall actually gaining 2 lbs, I then went back to Protein Water exercise and focused and lost another 12 lbs. I was definitely letting way too many carbs get in the way, we don't have to only eat protein but we should eat protein first... I started going to sliders because they made my stomach feel ok, while the protein I was supposed to be eating hurt and made me feel full and uncomfortable fast. Try having a week of protein based foods eggs, chicken, turkey, fish, Beans and cheese.... exercise normally and drink water that seemed to work for me Congratulations on breaking through I've become a little neurotic about the scale lately myself it can fluctuate 3-5 lbs in a day depending on water, coffee, and food intake.
  20. Used2b575lbs

I found my first "slider" food

I had a run in with combos in January I cut them out totally, yes there's protein in them but not enough to justify the calories, fat, and carbs

    Chewing Gum

I didn't chew it for a while but it's one of those things along with coffee that I need now. Coffee and gum both recommended as not to have or do post op by my doctor. I feel as long as i'm not swallowing it gum is fine, I will say I tried a piece early on and did have some discomfort due to air intake but at 8 months out this is no longer a problem. I drink more then 64 ozs of Water so as for the coffee I don't think it's a problem, I only put skim milk in it.

    Can I have salad?

I'm 8 months out and find that lettuce doesn't sit to well with me but I have enjoyed some salads just go light on the lettuce and have to really chew it. I also make sure it's loaded with protein of course.
