    What's your Band's name?

I have been having some issues accepting this plastic thing inside me, so this thread has me wanting to name it so I'm going to do just that. So in memory of my Dad (who past away very unexpectedly on December 09, 2010) I am going to name him George...it is the nickname he gave me when I was just a tiny little girl. My sister was Ralph. So everyone meet George...George this is everyone!
  2. I only sent to one seminar and met with one surgeon. I was however refered by my ortho doc whom I trust completely. He has operated on both of my parents numerous times and will also be doing my ortho surgeries (unfortunately, several coming down the pike in the next few years). I say if you like them and are content with them, why search for more?

    Approved, set for 4/1/11.

That's awesome. Good luck and enjoy the journey
  4. I would call back and leave a message for the nurse and ask to her to have the consult over the phone and see if they will do it. Simply because you have it scheduled, doesn't mean it can't be canceled. And if they won't at that point, then you have a scheduled appt and no harm done. That's just me Good luck!!

    Blood Pressure Meds

I still take the fluid pill (because I felt like I was holding fluid), but came off the atenelol immediately after surgery. My BP is the best it's been in years Good luck.

When did you return to work?

I have seen several people post they went back to work after only a few days. I know this would not have worked for me. I took 2 weeks off (I have a very stressful job), but I know for sure even with just "a desk job" I would not have been able to handle a full time job only 3 or 4 days out. I absolutely could have gone back this week, but am glad I took it off too The follow up appts with my PCP and my surgeon are much easier Not to mention a week off work is just nice!

    Newbie from RI

Good luck to you both. I think we all had a lot of the same concerns mentioned in your messages. Best of luck in making a great decision for you!

Pureed or Mushies Recipes! The mother load!

I'm trying this recipe tonight...just pulled it out of the oven. Made a larger version to actually feed the whole family. Cooked up some Pasta and chicken for the rest of the family to go with it. It sounds so good and I'm so ready for some yummy! Thanks for this post! I need to get them all copied and printed out.

    I'm new

I was banded on 3/4/2011. I'm looking forward to healthy weight loss and to be healthy for the first time in many years. I'm a 33 year old female who lives in the Northeast. Glad to you meet you all.

    Pain under left rib cage

I had this, horrible pain. I ended up going to the ER to rule out a pulmonary embolism (blot clot in the lung) and took my pain meds for a few days and after 4 or 5 days I'm back to normal now. You should probably check with your doc to be safe though.

    Why protein shakes?

I use the EAS AdvantEDGE Carb Control ones and they are the better tasting of the 2 or 3 I tried and have been using them for quite sometime. Just don't dump them out of the container (I buy premix, I'm lazy at 5am) as they have some chunks in the bottom that make me icky if I see them. Don't notice them when I just drink it out of the container. My favorite is the Rich Dark Chocolate, but all of them aren't bad. Good Luck!

    March 2011 Bandsters

This is the same diet I had. It was easy peasy! I could not imagine an all liquid diet for 2 or 3 weeks....eek!
  16. Other than having my wisdom teeth out when I was a teenager, I had never had any sort of surgery either. I am, however, very familiar with the process and procedures as I worked in the medical field for a few years in a hospital on a pre/post op floor. Also both of my parents have had many surgeries. I was nervous and concerned of course, but my knowledge made it much less stressful for me, I think. I also had my Mom there with me and that was the best thing for me. She is a HUGE support and I think that is a very important part of the process. Find that one person who you can lean on and do it. The entire program I went through was amazing as well. The staff at the center is outstanding and I can't say enough about them. As for discomfort, I had some discomfort right when I woke up. I'd say a 5 or a 6 on a 10 scale. Yes pain is different for everyone. I took I think 4 or 5 Oxycodone over the following few days and haven't taken any since except for when I pulled a stitch on my left side, that hurt! Still aren't sure what I did to do it, but I'm a big girl the danged couch is low blah blah blah...anyway, that resolved in a few days too. I still have a little discomfort, primarily on my left side if I stretch too far or if I try to role over on that side at night or something. No lifting for 6 weeks, so no issues there. And again, my Mom has been a huge help and my neice (she's 18 and lives with me) has been a pretty big support and help around here too. But I'm doing the basic housekeeping, dishes, laundry, dog/cat duties without any issues. Took 4 or 5 days before I could bend over to get things off the floor and it's still tight to do so almost 11 days out, but I do it without any actual pain if I'm careful. My first sneeze was interesting lol. Overall, it's nothing like I was expecting and have been pleasantly suprised. The going to sleep thing is still funny to me. They wheeled me down the hall into the OR and I was laying there talking to the anesthetists and my surgeon and have no recollection of going to sleep...literally I was having a conversation and then I was waking up having the same conversation, just way more groggy. lol There is a little burning feeling when the sleepy meds go in through the IV, but it was hardly noticable. I hope this helps put you at ease a little bit. Best of luck to you

    I have 2 new loves.....

Yes please, what is this click expresso magic fix? I must google!
  18. It wasn't bad at all. I was sore for a few days and since then I've been doing really well. It is stressful and scarey no matter what you do, but just keep the end result in mind and find a friend or family member you can talk to and that can support you and then this forum seems very awesome! (I'm brand new too, and was just banded on 3/4). Good luck and keep your chin up!
  19. I was banded on 3/4! I'm very excited. It has gotten much easier everyday. I'm only a little over a week out, but I know right quick when I don't get my liquids. I am on blended foods and protien shakes. Started them yesterday...never new tuna and cottage cheese could taste so good. I was on protien shakes on day 3, so it wasn't too bad. The chicken broth was not good for me, yuck! But I survived and am very excited to see lots of fellow recent bandees to share with!! Good luck to you all!

    Tired of unwanted advice

I have also chosen not to tell many people. My mom, my neice (who lives with me), my mom's best friend (and a very good friend of mine), and my 2 best friend's are the only ones who know. Well one of the supervisors at work and the work leave specialist only because they had to. And I told the supervisor that if anyone else found out I would let HR know lol....I don't need the other stuff mentioned in previous posts. I work in an office of "pretties". It's so discouraging and I definatley didn't need the side long glances if I chose to eat a pudding cup (sugar free of course) or something "less heathy" than vegtables. So anyway, thanks to everyone for the kinds words (I know they were directed toward pink, but they hit home for some of us others as well) and the support. I think I have found a place I'd like to frequent from time to time Thanks!
