Okay okay...I just realized tonight as I was taking my birth control pill that my surgery date (June 1st) falls on the 3rd-ish day of my period. Since I am on birth control my period is only about 3-4 days and it is never heavy. I am just wondering if it is alright to undergo surgery while menstruating? I really don't want to postpone the surgery. Was anyone else on their period during your surgery? I'm not TOO worried about it, but I just would like to know if anyone went through it. Any input would be greatly appreciated of course! Lori

Back from surgery...FOrest Park Med Center

Ugh I hate when people preach like that. SO not helpful! I am 16 days out and around the 12th day I started feeling amazing. Virtually no pain. Then yesterday I woke up with my incision right by my belly button (I don't know if you all have the same incision spots) ON FIRE. I am living with my sister and we did a lot of shopping and running around this weekend an I'm wondering if I overdid it and lifted a bit too many grocery bags or something and pulled on some stitches on that incision. Ugh it sucks so bad because here I thought I was free and clear almost done with the pain and now I am having to hold that area of my belly in if I want to bend or stretch in any way so it doesn't feel like fire again. Thank goodness for refills on the pain meds (that I thought I wouldn't need)! -
I haven't ever gone to the support group but I am definitely not opposed to it! You're doing amazing, 66 lbs already?!?! Wowza. Do you live in DFW? I live in Garland.

I just had my one week post op appointment and my doctor's PA cleared me to start my BC again. I take the progestin only pill (also called the mini-pill). My dr. said that as long as the pill is as small as a pencil eraser or smaller then it shouldn't be a problem at the beginning. Of course, I would ask your doctor, this is only what mine said! OH WAIT! I just saw that we have the same doctor...haha well that's awesome.

I, like piglet39, also had surgery there on the 1st of June at Forest Park. I loved that place! I lost 15lbs in the first week, I also got my drain out yesterday. As low maintenance as the drain really was, I feel so happy and free without it. 11lbs in two days, AMAZING! The first 3 days were painful and tiring, but after that every single day was exponentially better than the last. Congrats on being sleeved, the 11lbs you'll never see again, and good luck on your recovery!! -
Day 1 - Should I stay another day?
lk1069 replied to texaschick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I definitely thought day 2 was worse than day 1, so I would stay there for sure. I came home day 2 and wished I would have stayed at the hospital! -

I asked Dr. Nick in my pre-op appointment and he said he uses a 36fr boughie and he made it sound like that was what he used on everybody. Hope that helps! I was sleeved this last Tuesday (June 1st) and I'm feeling pretty good, just real sore and ready to eat something semi-solid! My scale at home doesn't work but I still feel bloated and swollen so I'm not sure it would say what I would like it to say anyways. I'm just waiting for my first week post-op to see how much I've lost!

I am being sleeved today with Dr. Nick! I am so nervous and excited. My surgery is scheduled for 11:30am but surgeries always run late so we shall see when I actually go in. AHHHH This is all so unreal. Talk to you guys on the other side! Lori:tongue_smilie:

sipping sipping sipping, walking walking walking
lk1069 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So...when you guys say "sip sip sip, walk walk walk" how many times post op did you guys actually get up and walk the halls of the hospital? I had my surgery less than 24 hours ago and I've already been up this morning twice on two nice long walks. I have been sort of relieved and surprised at how mild my recovery has been thus far, I guess I am one of the very lucky ones. I did, however, form a big bubble over my largest incision that FREAKED ME OUT! My sister spent the night here with me but had to leave really early to go home and get ready for work and almost as soon as she left I felt this bubble. I got really nervous as this is the first surgery I've had as an adult and the only other surgeries I've had have been on my ears, little minor day surgeries. I called a nurse and he told me to get up and walk and I did just that! I'm feeling the spot now and it has gone down significantly so that puts my mind at ease. Everyone keeps coming in to tell me I'm doing good things and I should be able to get out of here in a few hours so I am excited. I'm also nervous, I don't want to leave TOO soon because I do feel very safe here. I guess I will see how I feel when the time comes, because it is ultimately my decision to stay another night or not. I am off my IV and about to take my first dose of oral meds which I need quite badly right now, I haven't had anything for pain in quite some time. Anyhow, I just wanted to share a few things and ask a couple of questions to you experienced sleevers. I'm so happy to be one of you now! It's like I'm one of the cool popular kids! Haha just kidding. Everybody have a great day. Lori p.s.- water/crystal light was like heaven on earth this morning! I've never been so anxious to wet my whistle! -
Thanks so much everyone! Well I am out, I got out of surgery at approximately 2:15pm. I'm feeling alright overall actually. My ribs feel like they've been kicked but I'm told that's from the gas. I'm doing my breathing exercises and I've walked around the halls once. I'm pretty impressed with how I am feeling thus far, I may get to go home tomorrow! However, I did not feel that great right out of surgery haha. I woke up with them telling me to breathe deeply and in my head I was saying "Oh dear God if this is how it is going to feel I instantly regret this decision!!!" but those feelings were over in about thirty minutes! It has happened! It's here! I'm so excited for my future. To anyone that is wondering whether they can do this...YOU CAN! Welp, I'm a little drowsy (aka falling asleep, hehe) so I'd better get some rest. Thank you all for your wonderful words of encouragement.

Finally on the Losers Bench!

Congrats, I bet it's good to be back home. I have my surgery this coming Tuesday with Dr. Nicholson and I am circling between anxiety attacks, excitement, and day dreaming. I just can't wait for it to be done already. Good luck on a speedy recovery!! -
My surgery is on June 1st too! I've been on the pre-op slim fast diet almost a week now, and it's been really tough. I hope this last week flies by so fast...I'm ready to wake up and get my fresh start! Good luck to you, surgery twin!
-
Thanks so much everyone. I'll just do what Tiffykins did and tell the nurse and orderlies when I'm being checked in. I appreciate everyones input!

WELL! I just got back a couple of hours ago from meeting and consulting with Dr. Nicholson and we have a surgery scheduled for June 1st at 11:30am!!! I FLOATED OUT OF THE DOCTORS OFFICE I WAS SO HAPPY! I start the pre-op slim fast diet on May 20th, so I have just one more week to eat my favorite things before it's down to business. Dr. Nicholson was caring and kind and hilarious and made me extremely comfortable and confident in my decision. He has a black eye from his 8 year old practicing karate on him, so cute. This is actually happening. I can't wait to join the sleeved. Oh happy day! Lori

Yes it is at Forest Park and I will be sure to let you know how it goes!
-
There are high protein choices in the slim fast pre-op diet. I am allowed two meal shakes or bars, THREE snack bars, and a small meal for dinner. All in all, it doesn't seem so bad! Let's see how I feel after I actually have to start, though...haha.

Hey there everyone. I decided it was just about time that I quit lurking and spoke up! My name is Lori and I am 24 years old. I live in the north Dallas area (Garland, to those familiar) but I go to school in central TX (San Marcos). I was planning on waiting to post here until after I had my consultation this Thursday, but I just got tired of waiting! I am going to be seeing Dr. Nick Nicholson in Plano this Thursday and I am so very excited. I am a self paying patient and I am basically ready to schedule the surgery ASAP so that I have the whole summer to try and lose and get acclimated before I head back to school in the fall. I can't wait to be a new person. I can't wait to look forward to REAL exercise. I can't wait to go to the river with my friends and feel comfortable. I can't wait to hike through the hill country and take beautiful photos of places I've never been able to climb before. I am so excited for this opportunity. So...the nitty gritty...I weigh around 283 right now, hopefully will lose a decent amount in the pre-op diet. I would LOVE to end up in the 145-150 range, but of course I wouldn't mind weighing less :001_tongue:. My BMI is almost 54, yikes, it was pretty shocking when I saw that. I'm only 5'1" so I really think I COULD get down to a healthy 125-130 eventually, but I would be ecstatic if I stayed around a healthy 150 forever. I am glad I decided to do this at my age. I've been a fat kid my entire life so I think I damn well deserve this! I want to be able to live out the rest of my 20's like any other "normal" 20-something. Anywho, I just wanted to introduce myself and possibly get to know some of you great people that I have been cyber stalking on this great forum! You all seem so wonderful and supportive. Cheers to a fresh start! Lori p.s.- I'm a vegetarian and would be very interested in meeting other sleevers that are as well for tips and recipe sharing down the line.
