Ozzy Check with your doctor and nutritionist. On my program, all types of carbonated beverages are not allowed because of the effect of the carbonation on your stomach--meaning expansion and gas! Also, my plan allows only non-caffinated beverages until 6-8 weeks post surgery. I was a coffee addict and went cold turkey 2 weeks before my surgery-a tactic I cannot recommend!! I was miserable from the caffeine withdrawal. Consider backing off your diet cokes at a reasonable pace. Fit

Just a big thnk you to all sharing your sleeve success stories. I was apprehnsive yesteday about the surgery, but now that it's over I feel good abouy my choice. I'm doing reaaly well 18 hours out. I've experienced only minor discomfort from gas, which walking helps. Not too much pain either. Tomorow is the leak test, then water-YAY, One dy at a time...Right?? To Our good health, Fit

Good luck!!! keep us posted on your succees! Fit -
I have to lose about 125. Glad we're doing this together!!

Becca- Vicki is right, the test is a breeze. I've been scoped several times for another medical condition. My understanding that the reason surgeons require endoscopic examination is to alert them to any possible issues with your stomach before sleeving you. In my book that's the sign of a thoughtful, conserative, and cautious doctor...just what we need with these surgeries. Good luck to you on your journey! Fit

FitatFifty replied to determined1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Greetings September Sleevers! I was sleeved last Thursady (9/16) and am home enjoying my sleeve and rest. I am down 18 pounds simce I started re pre-op diet. I spend my days sipping and walking. I find the sipping quite a challenge as I was a gulper when it came to water, but no more! the most fun was being welcomed onto the losers bench. Glad you to hear from you all! Fit -

Celiac Disease and the Sleeve
FitatFifty replied to FitatFifty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bewitched- I'm so happy for you that your Celiac was diagnosed. There's nothing worse than the chronic diarrhea and feeling generally pretty awful. I've been on the gluten free diet for seven years and am doing great. Well, maybe a little too great--but the sleeve will help with that!!! Fit -
Celiac Disease and the Sleeve

Worldwide protein shakes do contain soy. Sorry for the misinformation! Fit -
Hi Nancy-
My understanding is that some folks have leaky guts and eating gluten justs makes them feel bad. Also, it's a great way to cut down on those pesky office treats--which are loaded with gluten with calories. Although, didn't stop me from eating plenty of gluten free good!! Also, there is a connection between gluten and autism. Not sure otherwise....

Celiac Disease and the Sleeve
FitatFifty replied to FitatFifty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had any issues with gluten in proterin drinks, and the pre-mixed drinks typically have the allergens listed, Have you looked an Unjury products? I really like them...they are not as sweet as others. You can order a sample pack from thier website. Also, I am using Worldwide Protein shakes, and I don't believe they contain soy. I'm sure you'll find the products you need. The websites usually have good infomration about the products. Fit -
Wow! That's next week. I started pursuing this adventure in February 2010. Thanks to all of you who generously shared your appeal letters and information. I believe I was acutally more excited about winning the appeal then finally having the surgery. My doc uses a two week modified liquid diet, and I lost 9 pounds at the end of the first week. I also put on a pair of pants that have been hanging around my closet for over a year... you know what I'm talking about!! To our good health Fit

Congratulatoins Mary! It feels so good to win your appeal. I did too and my surgery date is Sept. 16--next Thursday. Fit

Of course. I need to redact my personal information and then send it to you. Thanks for sending me your email address and good luck!

FitatFifty replied to vanishingvixen's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
HA HA HA! Not offended in the slightest. I can relate to the shock of seeing just what might go wrong...did the signing today, and it was a little unnerving. Your thread was great comic relief. Fit -
