Unrealistic Expectations
Margaret replied to ILKrista's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think your sense of humor will save your life. I'm going through the nay sayer thing some before my surgery. I think honesty is certainly the best, and getting it out there up front SHOULD be better. I'm bothered by a close friend who isn't on board with my decision yet claims to be supportive and thinks that is being silent about it. It causes great anxiety. Look at the clueless just like you always did. They'll realize you did it for yourself in time, and those who were/are judgmental will see how fine you look in a few weeks or months. I wish I had a MAGIC BEAN right this minute!!!! I'm waiting on insurance approval and a date and literally have the phone by my side I'm so hoping it will ring! I don't plan to tell anyone how much I've lost. I'm just going to be me and in a few months, I hope old me! I don't know how old you are, but I'm pretty sure a lot of people are their own worst enemies. Sounds nicer than idiots! It took me years to realize this. -

I would go ahead and do it on April Fool's Day---what a cool surgery date! -
Lucky. And I wait. And wait. Maybe today I'll hear!

I have hypothyroidism, too, and haven't had my surgery yet. Do you take your Levoxyl or whatever as usual after surgery?

How long before I can comfortably climb in bed?
Margaret replied to sychadelic's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My bed is super tall and my doctor told me I will need a stepstool for a few nights. I'm trying out two of them to see which I prefer before surgery! I was going to buy a recliner but decided not to and to just make do and use another bedroom for a lower bed if I have to! -
What to take to the hospital?

PCP not supportive of surgery
Margaret replied to kpbrighton's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ask your surgeon what he thinks you should do! Get some names of doctors he knows will be on board. That's a bit ridiculous in my limited opinion! -
You know you've been sleeved when.....

PCP not supportive of surgery
Margaret replied to kpbrighton's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Probably your PCP will get on board, knowing if he/she doesn't, you'll find one who will. I had a 6 month insurance requirement with mine, and it was okay each time. At my last visit, she said she'd had quite a few patients go this route and that they had lost amazing amounts of weight. Just go in with a positive attitude and see what happens. Remember, a PCP isn't always at the tippy top of medical knowledge and info on the sleeve. If you need a different PCP for the procedure time requirements, then press on! -

Nervous about pre-op testing
Margaret replied to Sara Ann's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't be nervous! I just went in and hopped around the various offices, sort of in a fog that I was actually going to do this, and it just came and went. Think of it as simply interesting and part of clicking requirements off of your list----great relief at the end! You'll be fine! -
I'm right there with you. The photos do it all for me! That or walking by a store mirror. Pretty much end of story! Here's to a fabulous 2011!

If you have to go monthly for 6 months, go every 25 days and you can shave a month off of your weighting time! -
finished my 6 months insurance requirement today
Margaret posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Now to see how long it will take to get a surgery date and really get this journey on its way! I hope I'm going to be able to do this in March. I will say the 6 months went by fairly quickly, all things considered. It's probably good to have a waiting period to become more informed about the entire procedure.
