    Asking for prayers

I have a friend who had all of that done following gastric bypass surgery. She did very well and it was ALL POSITIVE. JUST GET IT OVER WITH AND press on with your positive help to all of us!
  2. Could vitamins on an empty stomach be the problem? I haven't had surgery yet, but vitamins right with a meal or before make me very nauseous.

    I leave for Mexico Today

Good for you! Don't be scared to death. Be thrilled for LIFE!!!!!!!!! I haven't had mine yet, but so understand the anxiety effect of planning for this big step! Look at this as one huge adventure. Prayers out there for you and I know you'll be writing to us soon.
  4. Just incredible! Haven't had mine yet, but entries like this are soooooo appreciated!
  5. If it's not a time-release with all those teeny tiny things, couldn't you use a pill-cutter?

    Cant Stop Crying

I haven't had my surgery yet but haven't heard of too many losing hair if they're getting in their Protein. I know from a child with a crash diet years ago that hair grows in 18 month cycles. It will grow back. If you don't get the protein in, it will fall out and until you're totally getting enough protein in, it will not get that good healthy start to growing in again. You'll be better I just know! I am already taking Biotin I'm so worried about it! Better days are ahead for you. You could always go to a nutritionist specialist as well! good luck and keep us posted.
  7. Congrats to you! The naysayers really do get in the way of the entire process, in my opinion! My surgery hasn't happened yet, but my surgeon did tell me he didn't want me to lose too much weight beforehand. That's a FIRST from a doctor! Hilarious. A sense of humor will save your life. Keep us posted.
  8. Good for you! I'm a little older than you and will have mine next month probably. This forum has been so good for answering all kinds of little issues as well as big ones! I've battled weight forever but mostly in the last 10 years. When a trainer twice a week for 6 months wasn't getting any weight off I started re-thinking and studying. This has got to be the way to go! I have mostly supportive friends and a great group working with me in TN. Here's to good health!
  9. I'm getting mixed answers on how much help I might need once I get home following the procedure? I have friends lined up who can stay here, but would like to hear from others who might live alone as well. I will have one night in the hospital, virtually no travel, and friends who can stay over. But if all goes well, would I really need that? I do have stairs in my house, but I think I'll be okay.

    live alone

Thanks, Stacy----my BMI is "lower" as well and because I'm on 2 flights of stairs plus I'm a yard person by hobby, I'm not exactly a sit still type of person! My Dr. advised me to get a step stool since I have a very high bed but he didn't think stairs would be the problem either. I think I worry about feeling faint the most, having done that after a few different surgeries in the past. Apple juice for a pick-me-up if I'm in bed and feel faintish? Thanks--M

Thank you! I might go recliner shopping or move a twin bed downstairs for a few weeks. I get the nicest advice here------many thanks!

OK----that is just amazing! I don't have a downstairs bedroom but I still think I'll be ok. My doctor said stairs wouldn't be a problem. Thanks!

    Hyperspeed Process

That has to be record speed! I hope your recovery will be the same! I am in the insurance system's plodding along for 6 months, but nearing the end. In the meantime, this website has been most helpful to me. I keep wishing I could have done this sooner, but my insurance just began covering the sleeve. It HAS to be the way to go if one is going to do anything! Best of luck to you!
  14. You sound like me! 100 lbs: yes. Less than 50 to lose, no! I cannot wait!

U tube video of the Sleeve operation

I watched it. Not so hideous. Does look like chicken, which I may never want in the near future.....
  16. Everyone has problems with this! I am single and am arranging for my only child to travel a long distance to help me for a few days. I'm blessed beyond words. This website is FOR YOU. We're here for you and I admire your courage and determination! Keep writing and we'll keep helping you along this journey.

    My Journey Starts Today

Good for you! REST and sleep on the plane and dream of those smaller clothes and how proud your little girl will be one day when she's old enough to understand about this! My surgery isn't until March or April. You have courage and smarts------enjoy the trip and you're on your way to everything good!

    Dont want the Sleeve

I have sleeve surgery coming up, and that is because my insurance started covering it. When I attended a seminar on WLS I knew it was the ideal one. Plus, two friends of mine had gastric bypass ONLY because they couldn't have the sleeve at that time. Insurance changed and I lucked out. I would not hesitate to listen to your doctor and keep reading this website. It's helped me so much with so many questions! I also recall my doctor's telling me, "My sleeve patients are my happiest patients." Good luck to you!
  20. Mine will be in March or April, and I told my closest friends. I just figured honesty was best and I can't lie. So, it's in my nature to be a realist and once I knew this was right for me; i. e. to have the surgery, I was totally comfortable with the facts. I had lots of questions, lots of naysayers, and lots of indifference. I asked for it by clarifying for some what it was all about, but I told them NOW I'm not going to mention it any more. I have a support group on this website and at the hospital, and I've had enough negative backlash that I'm just going about my business and not mentioning it at all. At least that's my plan! In many ways, I wish I hadn't told anyone! Interestingly enough, those who work on their weight and are walking or in other diet programs were clearly the most supportive. Lots of people don't have the courage or conviction to change. It's their problem, not mine! Good luck to you-----and to me, too!
  21. Thanks, Brian! It's so encouraging to hear success stories. I remember a doctor telling me in the 8th grade that 141 was too much. I realize, too, that I've battled weight forEVER. I will gladly trade changing habits and surgery for the old heavy days! My sleeve surgery will be this spring.

    the epiphany

I, too, attended a seminar and knew the sleeve was THE ONE to have but my insurance didn't cover it at the time. Then, a miracle occurred and it was covered and I knew I'd found what was right for me. I will have it done in March or April. Last week I attended the first Sleeve Support group and it was one of the most uplifting events I've been to in some time. This website helps a lot and all the events my group hosts are wonderful. I attended a nutrition group yesterday----they hold it weekly and I can go for life! Congrats on your decision. We must be brilliant!

    Should I tell my dad??

I have to agree here. He might be worried and although you'll have to listen to the , "Why didn't you tell me?" stuff, truth is the best avenue to travel. Just tell him you did what was right for YOU and YOU are thrilled with your new start. Play the "please be happy with me" card and if telling him in person is too hard, hit a card shop for a beautiful card and write him a letter.
