  1. I need help please (immediate). I'm suppose to be drinking this clear liquid protein drink (Isopure) got them at Hi-Health prior to surgery. Now, I'm 2 days out of surgery and these drinks are aweful. They taste like a dry wine. I can't get them down and I'm weak and out of energy so I know I need to get in some protein. As far as I know, this week is the only time I will need these and I don't want to spend a bunch on it. I welcome any suggestions. I have 12 bottles of all the different flavors of isopure and yuck, wat a waste of money that was. Anybody? Please chime in.

    I'm sleeved!!!!!

Okay - so I was sleeved on March 8th. I haven't really had an extreme amount of pain. I'm 3 days out and have switched to Tylenol from Vicadin today. My biggest issue is protein. I can't stand the Isopure and I can't seem to get the protein in any other way. I'm eating the broth and jello but I think that I'm listless because of the lack of protein. I've got a call into the dietician at my surgeon's office, I hope they call back soon. Do you get that burning, gurgling going on when you swallow something (even water)?
  3. Yah what a dummy for not ordering the Unjury. Thanks for the tip. I'll try the Chrystal lite even though my NUT says no fake sugars. I gotta do something.
  4. Had my surgery Tuesday, March 8th and got home Wednesday evening. Dr. Blackstone said everything went great. No drain, naseau, or anything. I've had very little pain. I made the mistake of letting the pain get on top of me at the hospital because I didn't like the liquid lorotab. So, instead of asking them to order a tablet and pill slit it in half, I just went back to bed. This was a mistake that I paid dearly for. That much pain cut into my walking and sipping time (very important). It's really hard to get that much Water in when you have to take small sips and take time in between sips. After I got control of the pain, the SPA lady showed up and gave me a great facial and massage. That made everything all better. I'm feeling good today, just one and a half days post surgery. Of course still doing Clear liquids. I think it may get a little more difficult when I have to start making food choices next week. Good luck to you all. So far, really, easy time.

    Tomorrow is THE day!!! Yikes!!!

Well DisneyMomma - how'd it go. I'm home tonight after yesterday afternoon's surgery. Whew - thank God that parts over. Now, I just have to figure out how to eat. A little heartburn, a little pain but all-in-all, I'm doing pretty good. Hope to hear from you soon.
  7. Hi - Congrats. You and others like you are my inspiration. I really need this to go well. I'm not one to get sick from Anesthesia so I'm hoping that helps. Also, I'm having my surgery tomorrow. My question is does age make a big diff? I'm 54 and really have an active life. I need to be going like you in a week. From everything you know thus far, how does age play into recovery? I'm a 36 BMI so I don't have as much to lose as some but I don't know if that makes any diff either. Any idea?

    Tomorrow is THE day!!! Yikes!!!

Hey DisneyMomma: Tomorrow is my surgery day too. I'm very excited and a little aprehensive too. I'm on my Clear liquids today and at 1:00. I have to "drink the kool-aid" yuck and then, well.... you know what happens after that. LOL. Good luck to you. I will see you on the skinny side!

    Eating

My NUT said that chicken is one of those foods that actually gets bigger as you chew it. Therefore, the advice I was given for chicken was take smaller than dime size bites (pea size) and chew them less. This way they don't "grow" in your mouth and pouch. I'm not able to have beef until like 3 months out.

I STILL SEE MYSELF AS FAT

    I do have one problem!!!

I've wondered where this information was. I'm to be sleeved next Tuesday; 1 week. I see how fast everyone loses the weight and I'm wondering how the heck I will find clothes. It seems like such a waste of money to buy something you may only wear 1 month. I guess I'll find a good consignment store. Let me know what you have done.

I STILL SEE MYSELF AS FAT

If I were in your shoes. I would start looking at pictures of gorgeous people that are big boned and tall. You have something to be proud of with that awesome height. We, as women, look at those stupid skinny models in the magazines and try to be them and if we can't, we feel inadequate. This is so wrong. Get a Lane Bryant catalog and look at how proud those women are of who they are. Heck, go be one of those models!
  14. Do you think it is possible that the surgeon didn't cut away as much of your stomach as is normally cut away? Idk... just a possibility I guess. It seems after reading all these posts and everyone is experiences the same things, yours is quite different. Maybe get a look at the stomach from a different surgeon?
  15. I posted on this forum about my sister as well. She is completely non-supportive so I understand how you feel. She is my older sister that thinks she can still influence my decisions. She has never been overweight and does not understand at all. She wants me to become a vegan (like her) and I told her that I'm tired of all the different diets. Then she got made because I called her "way of life" a diet. Geez, you just can't win. I really wished I hadn't told her at all. She lives 1700 miles away. I could have easily not said anything but I had no idea she would be like this. Try not to take to too hard (I'm not doing very good at that). I'm hoping that when I'm thinner and happier she will see that it was a great thing.
  16. I need help from someone on what to say to my sister. I have chosen a five-star surgeon (Healthgrades), and a five-star hospital in Scottsdale, Az. I have done ALL the research. I have yo-yo dieted for all of my adult life (I was not a fat kid). My sister lives 1,700 miles away from me and she has not lived and seen the yo-yoing. Additionally, she is so much older than me that when she left home, I was still a skinny kid. However, she has seen me at my biggest and at my smallest so I'm sure she is aware that I go up and down, "like a yo-yo". She is so non-supportive about my choice. All of her e-mailsare begging me not to do this. I've pointed out to her my co-morbities and what it would mean if I do not have the surgery, but she just thinks I can go on another diet. I love my sister and I cannot stand that she can't see how important this is. What to do?
  17. Wow - it must have been really difficult to have a spouse not being supportive. I'm glad to hear that now you surgery is over he has come around. I'm sure this will happen with my sister as well. I AM having the surgery; In just 1 week actually. My sister will not stop me. It is just hurtful that she doesn't get it. I know that I should call her instead of e-mailing but I don't want to sound angry to her and I AM angry that she is so negative about it all. I just wished I had not told her about the surgery, but I never thought she would take this attitude. However, she does tend to be a "negative nellie" and I'm very afraid to call her and actually hear, with my ears, the negativity about my choice. Thank you for posting your experiences. It is so helpful.

I fell off the pre-op diet wagon last night.

I just don't get the whole "pre-op diet" thing. My doctor doesn't require a liquid diet before surgery. I will be on liquids for 1 week after surgery and then never again. She does ask people to lose 10% of the weight they are to lose but she didn't require this of me because I'm pretty borderline on the BMI and my liver was looking okay. Anyway, all that said, I really don't think falling off your diet is a big deal because obviously some doctors don't even require a diet.

    VSG - 5-year result study

Thanks so much for this info. It looks like the conversions were done because of reflux AND weight regain and the ppi's were for those that just had the reflux. So, as long as the weight stays down, I can take the ppi. Additionallly, the Gherlin level information is pretty exciting.

    Set for 03-08-11

OMG! I had my first pre-op support group yesterday. We did our registration and then had a brief talk, Q&A with all the folks again, dieticians, exercise folks, resp, RNs, etc. Then we found out that the hospital has a SPA in it and we got our choice of two SPA treatments while we are in the hospital recouperating! I chose a facial and massage. I love this hospital and Dr. They are soooo supportive. One week after surgery we go to our first post-op appt and learn to eat our first real meal all together. I think I'm really going to be happy and successful with this choice.
  21. I did not really know what to expect after the surgery until I started to read some of the postings here. Now, I'm thinking I might have rather stayed in the dark. Reading some of the posts from others that are only a few days out of surgery sounds scary. However, I just keep telling myself how much I dislike this huge gut and the unhealthy life I live. I want to have a can-do attitude after the surgery and make myself push through so that I will have a quick recovery. This is my 1st goal for my new life.
  22. Geez.. you guys. How do you even go about trying things? I'm sooo scared of vomiting that I may never eat again after I have this surgery. Has anyone ever died of starvation after this surgery? LOL. I may be the first!

    epidural

Epidurals are used only by some anesthesiologists for additional pain control. I cannot imagine any certified surgeon using only epidural.
