  1. How exciting! My turn is next week & I think I might be doing some of that crying in the bathroom too. But, I'm absolutely certain this is the right thing for me. Yeah losers!

    Mushie food ideas?

I know everyone has different ideas, so it's best to ask your nutritionist (nut). Mine told me to limit my carb intake to 15 per meal. So, that would be 45 a day. Some go lower and some people aren't given any real restrictions. My best advice is see what works for you. Start with your nut guidelines and then modify as you find best. That being said, I want to note that she told me not to worry about any of that during my liquid and puree phase. At that time, my priority is to be Water and then, Protein. Then, she wanted me to start watching the carbs - 3oz protein, veggies, then fruit.

    Dr. Umbach in Las Vegas?

I am one of the "nice ladies" referred to above. We will definitely be sharing our experience on here of our surgeries. We have done quite a bit of research and I feel very confident in our choice. More to come...
  6. Hi Maddie. Welcome. I am pre-op just like you so I don't have a lot of information. Sounds like we are going to have to get used to a little less hair. But, if I can get healthy, a little hair loss is worth it to me. I'll be post-op in less than 2 weeks. Any questions you have, just fire away. Someone here will know the answer. P.S. - I totally agree with your note to TiffyKins. She rocks!

    What to wear...

I would love to know the answers myself. I've heard that we will be a bit bloated after the surgery. Hope my clothes fit me ok for work.

Great attitude and best of luck! Let us know how it goes
  9. Wannalise - I can totally relate ... My son works part time in a grocery store while going to college. His main area is the dairy department. A woman the other day was looking at some Greek Yogurt and asked his opinion. He told her that I was interested in the yogurt as well since it was high in Protein and good for WLS patients. Without knowing him or my situation, she went off on him. Kept telling him that I didn't need surgery and that I was taking the easy way out. To say the least, he was really upset. He knows my struggles and my family history. He totally supports my decision. To think he was sharing something he was proud of and to be assaulted by a complete stranger. How am I going to handle this type of "conversation" once I'm sleeved. If someone asks, I will be honest. If they "protest", I will let them know that they need to do what's right for them just like I had to do what's right for me. Don't know if that helped or not, but that's my plan. Congratulations on your decision. If you need support or encouragement, there is plenty of that around here. Welcome.

    Another food for thought moment

After looking at that ... Who's hungry besides me?

Bambi - What kind of protein powder are you using. I can honestly say that I haven't found any of them to be "yummy". :frown1:
  12. I was advised to start taking iron and calcium immediately - even before surgery. I am on chewable versions of both.

Great tip! Which flavor of CL do you like best with the vanilla?
  14. Didn't sound like it from what she explained. But, you might want to call your doctor/nut to confirm. She is having me do the 30 min prior and 30 min after as "practice" for how I will be eating shortly afterwards. Of course, I can say all this now ... check with me in a few weeks when I'm sleeved and worried about everything I do.
  15. My nut gave intructions to sip the water throughout the day being careful to time that I do not drink 30 minutes prior or 30 minutes after eating. I did not get a restriction on how much to have at a time. She did say that it may take 30-60 minutes to drink a cup at first, but that time should go down to 5-15 minutes after the swelling goes down.

Sorry - I guess that wasn't very nice of me. :biggrin0:
  19. MINI-Me

    Why?

I was told that the bubbles from the carbonation could cause pain and possibly cause damage to the healing stomach .

    Starting pre-op diet

I'm on day 2 of the pre-op. 2 shakes (1/2 milk and 1/2 Water mixed with Protein powder) and some cucumber slices today. CANNOT WAIT for my 3 ounces of chicken and small salad tonight. LOL - And just think ... many of us are paying out of pocket to do this. Just gotta keep our eyes on the prize and try not to think about our tummies wanting more.

You definitely have to love yourself before you can go looking for love. And that means enjoying being alone with yourself. I don't know your history, but it sounds like you took a great first step at loving who you are with this surgery. That being said, don't give up on the on-line dating - especially if there aren't a lot of options for meeting men in your town. I met my husband over 12 years ago on-line (back when it was not a common option) ... We got married a year later & I can tell you it was the best thing I ever did. I found my soulmate - someone who supports me and loves me just the way I am. Of course, he's getting very excited about having a slim and sexy wife in the near future. :biggrin0: What do you do socially? Anyway to integrate your interests in ways that involve members of the opposite sex? Before meeting my husband, I was involved in a singles group at church. I went to enjoy Christian companionship, not to "troll for guys". However, I did meet several really nice men and enjoyed spending time with them. None of them ever hit the spark I was looking for, but it was fun to just have a social life.
  22. Fantastic results!!! You have to be very proud of yourself and the choices you have made to be a whole new you. I love hearing all the success stories.

    Changed my blog settings

OK ... I've been reading without a response too. Just reading your experience is so helpful to those considering or newer to the sleeve than you. I'm sure others are that way too, but I can totally understand your fear of creepy lurkers - just don't consider me one, please!
  25. I saw your note in the confessions topic today. Not sure what's going on, but if you need a friend, feel free to call on me.
