    VSG at "low" BMI?

I was sleeved last Wednesday with a low "BMI" (~32-33) as well. My surgeon kept calling me skinny. I loved it! No one has ever called me skinny my entire life. I didn't have any other issues other than a family history of morbid obesity and diabetes. My blood sugar is normal but has been going up with time. My cholesterol has always been good, but my triglycerides took a huge upswing just as I was going through pre-op labs. I also think this is good for low weights - the restriction and hormone changes are perfect for us. I am great as loosing 70 pounds - over and over and over again. I'm just not good at maintaining. This is my tool that I am going to use for my success. Since I'm 4 days post op today, I can't promise this will continue, but I am truly not hungry. I have to keep watching the clock to see when it's time to have a shake or Jello again. I LOVE IT!!!!!!
  2. I did not have an epidural. To be honest, I'm not sure what was in the anesthesia "cocktail" but it seemed to do what it needed. I did have pain medications in my IV and the surgery center, but it seems that the hydrocodone (sp?) that I took by liquid did the best for me as far as pain management. Yes, it made me sleepy, but it was good for the pain. When I would wake up, I would walk. About 1 hour before time for another dose, I could start feeling the incisions again. Day 4 post-op and I am only using Liquid Tylenol today. I may use the script tonight when I go to bed - I will just have to see how my day goes.
  3. Oh how I wish someone had answered. I'm still on shakes and liquids, but I have the same issue!!!!!!! Anyone out there have this? What did you do? Anything to be concerned about????
  4. You have a great day - the 10th is my birthday. YOU will do GREAT! I had surgery last Wednesday and while I am still recuperating, I am feeling better day by day. (Nasty shoulder pain though.) I can totally understand the anxiety. I had my share - you can bet. But, the day before surgery, I was talking to my surgeon and I totally felt at peace. This is the right thing - you've done your research and have picked the surgery for you. Congratulations!!! Post out here if you need any support.

    Nutrition Data?

ok ... I am 4 days post op, but I've bookmarked all those sites. Thanks for sharing!
  6. Sorry - I don't have any experience with this drug. I guess the question is do you trust the new Dr? If so, talk to her about your concerns and see what he/she has to say about it. Best of luck - I know this has been rough for you. :frown1:
  7. I am 4 days postop today. I guess I'm one of the unlucky ones since I can only take in about 2 ounces in 1/2 an hour without feel completely full and uncomfortable. I am determined to get my water and at least 1/2 my protein today. So wish me luck!

    I am NORMAL!

    Fantastic! Great job.
  11. Arrive in Vegas tonight. Paperwork (gotta love HIPPA) and final pre-op exam tomorrow. Surgery 7:30am. On Wednesday. I am anxious, but VERY excited!!! Wish me luck - prayers are definitely appreciated.
  12. Well, LuvMeBunches and I have our spot on the Loser's Bench. Doing good except for some bruising and pain in the largest incision. Thanks for all the prayers!!!!
  13. Heading to the surgery center in 5 minutes!!!!!!!!!!

    Has this happened to anyone?

If your position was eliminated, are you eligible for COBRA? I believe the 65% COBRA coverage is still in effect. So, you may be able to pay the 35% of your premium and still have the surgery and any possible complications covered. You have 60 days from the end of your coverage to apply for COBRA.

    Milk

ok ... I'll bite and ask how you know about that? I was told that the carbs (sugar) in milk was acceptable as long as we watch the other carbs we eat.
  16. Mine was very similiar. We ended up talking like old friends, instead of dr/patient. I found that mine had WLS 9 years ago - losing and keeping off 140 pounds. WOW!

    Today!!!

So happy for you. When you get there, save me a spot on the loser's bench. I'll be joining you on Wednesday!
  18. I was told not to use a straw. I believe it was to reduce air/gas in the tummy. However, I have seen many posts about post-sleevers using straws. So, do you or don't you? If you don't - what were you told were the impacts of using a straw? (I have been using them pre-op to avoid the protein powder smell.)

    Cajun confused about carbs

Was this nutritionist familiar with WLS - specifically vertical sleeve? If not, I would suggest finding someone who is. The weightloss seems to be doing great for you, therefore, I wouldn't suggest a change. However, I would think you would have more energy. What is your treadmill routine? How much can you do & what intensity level before you get dizzy?
  20. Thank you! I'm a little anxious, but VERY excited! Thanks for thinking of me.

    Tomorrow is my day!

I so know what you are going through. I fly out tomorrow night and my surgery is on Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. I'm just trying to focus on all the good things coming for me!

    Feeling rather alone and confused....

40 pounds in 2 months sounds fantastic. I think the girls have given you some good advice above. Try not to stress so much - you are losing weight and people are noticing. (Of course, that's easy to say this side of the sleeve. I'm sure I'll be obesessing soon enough! :biggrin0:)
  23. I am being sleeved on Wednesday (1/27) and paying $10,600 in the US. So, your price sounds very reasonable. Besides the stories here on the boards, I know 3 people with the band. All 3 have had issues with swelling, vomitting, not being able to hold food down, etc. (One has had to have all the Fluid taken out for the past 5 months - so she paid for a surgery that is doing her no good.) While I only have 1 friend with a sleeve & 2 with a gastric by-pass, they've had no issues and very happy with their choice. So, out of the6 people I know with WLS, the only 3 with complications have been banders. So, it was a definite NO for me! Best of luck on your decision.
  24. I was told to limit my carbs to 40 per day, but that oatmeal & mashed potatoes are allowed - I just have to count them. Of course, this is coming from someone not sleeved and only "book smart" at this time. But, if you are feeling weak and not getting enough calories/protein in, I think it makes sense to try something.
  25. Your doctor or nutritionist should be able to tell you the amount to take. After your post-surgery labs (6 weeks out or so), they may have to adjust them a bit.
