Just a word of caution. Before my surgery, I tried out a lot of shakes and found some that were "tolerable" (I will NEVER like any of them). I stocked up on them since I found some good prices. After surgery, they all made me gag so I am unable to use them. In fact, I'm taking the powders to my Sleeve Support Group tomorrow night just to get it out of my house. The only one I'm really able to get down is Optimum Nutrition 100% Any Whey Protein which doesn't have a lot of flavor - maybe a hint of vanilla. I mix it in with warm (not hot or it will clump) Swiss Miss Diet Cocoa. Another option is the unjury chicken Soup. It's a little salty, but I like that. Good luck finding the protein of your choice. I know there are several threads out here that show places to order samples and such.

Surgery Date Scheduled 3/10/10
MINI-Me replied to LyndaRN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome! I was driving about 1 1/2 weeks post-op. I think I could have done it earlier, but was a little timid since I live in a high traffic area. My incisions were still hurting with quick movements & I wasn't sure how I would have dealt with defensive driving manuevers. Best of luck! -
PNW - Best of luck with your surgery. We'll be waiting to hear how you do. I just noticed that you live in the Seattle area - me too. When you get back, let me know if you are interested in a Sleeve Support Group. I go to one that meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month at Stevens Hospital in Edmonds. We would be glad to have you come join us.

Finding the time to stop
MINI-Me replied to MINI-Me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks ... I was thinking I would start cutting back on the portions a bit & see if that helps. Nice to see that someone else thinks that too. The "WHAM" is bad! :crying: -
FRUSTRATED!!! Am I the only one this is not going to work for?

Bake it half the time on the given pan. Then slide it off directly onto your baking shelf for the remainder of the time. It will crisp up perfectly. -

Tracey - Thanks. My problem is that I do measure everything out. I try to eat slowly and thoughtfully, but then WHAM! I go from one bite being fine to all of the sudden having this horrible full feeling and pain between my shoulder blades. -
As many of you know, I was considered a "lightweight" with a BMI of 32.5. However, with today's weigh in, I'm out of the obese category and into overweight. I am wearing a pair of pants that I haven't worn in who knows how long. Yahoo!!!!!

I am still too early for pizza, but I love Papa Murphy's DeLite. I think Oregondaisy eats pizza with her kids on occaision. -

Day 6 of Oxycodone 3x a day
MINI-Me replied to tennessee1031's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What exactly is hurting? Is it the incision sites, muscular, etc? If you aren't sure why the doctor prescribed the medication & dosage, I would suggest calling his office on Monday. Your doctor should be able to explain his prescription and if you still have concerns, discuss alternatives. Good luck! -

I tried a scrambled egg for breakfast yesterday. I ate about 1/2 before I started feeling warm, lightheaded and woozy. I've heard that a lot of people have trouble with eggs, but Idon't know why. But nut suggested that I try other foods and then come back to eggs in a week or two. -
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Just sit back and enjoy being in Onederland.

I had a similiar experience today. The waitress was concerned and asked me twice if I liked the soup. (I think she was worried because she recommended it.) I just smiled and said it was great, but I wasn't as hungry as I thought I was. I LOVED IT!!!!!!!

Since I was just sleeved 2.5 weeks ago, I can so relate to your anxiety. I don't have the magic answer to help calm your fears. However, I can tell you to talk with your surgeon - explain your fears, have him walk you through the procedure - what you can expect and what not to expect (so you know to ask for assistance if you need it), also be sure to talk to your anesthesiologist when you meet him/her. Funny story - I was scared to death of general anesthesia. But, when I met my anesthesiologist, all I could think of was "Wow! He's handsome & has a great smile". I can't be sure, but I think I have a memory of telling him how handsome he was when he put me under! Keep us updated on your progress. If you need support the next 2 weeks, just come out here. We're all here for you. -
Thanks for putting this out here. I don't go into the blogs much, so I was glad to know that it is out there.

I was exactly the same, but my poison was Diet Pepsi which soon changed to Pepsi Max (gotta love all that caffeine). I could chug 6 or more 20oz bottles a day. Talk about a lot of money spent! When I decided to have surgery, I knew it was goodbye to this habit. I had tried going cold turkey before & the caffeine withdrawal (aka HEADACHE) was unbelievable. This time, I slowly weaned off - dropping 1 each week for a while until I had my last one on 1/15/2010 (12 days before surgery). I still have my empty Diet Pepsi bottle at my desk as a reminder. I can honestly say, I did not have any withdrawal by doing a slow reduction. And, if giving up something like that would help me change my life, it is well worth it. We'll be here for you. Just post if you are tempted or have any questions. You'll find this is a great forum.

It's amazing isn't it?!?!?!?!? I am allowed 6 small meals a day on my current food phase. I never get in that last "meal" in each day - and pre-surgery I was always a late night snacker.

I returned 1 week post-op and am working 1/2 days until week 3.

I think I am so worried about complications that I worry about everything ... The last two days - have had a pain in my lower left side just a little over the belly button line (but about 4 inches to the left). It sorta feels muscular, but I am too paranoid to be sure. Anyone else experienced this 12 days post-op?
