181.6 as of this morning. Yahoo! That is 21.4 pounds (the 0.4 is important! ) that I will never get back.

ZUMBA- where have you been all my life????

So what would you say is the basic physical requirements for Zumba? I am soooooooooooooooooo out of shape. I've heard good things, but don't want to pass out in the middle of a session.

    I've blown it this week.

Ash - what kind of restriction do you have at this point? Is it due to eating too much at one sitting or grazing on the "bad, terrible, awful things"? I know I'm very early out to be giving advice on restriction, but if you can focus more on dense Protein at mealtime, maybe you will be too full to graze on the "bad" stuff.
  5. Do you have any hobbies? I know that pre-surgery whenever I wanted to snack, I would pick up my knitting. You can't knit and eat food at the same time! :biggrin0:
  6. I'm still new out - but I have between 30-45 carbs each day (per MyFitnessPal.com). I'm loosing just fine, but that may change as my body adjusts to the surgery. Oregon gave you some great ideas for lowcarb snacks.

    were you nervous to eat

I think everyone is probably nervous with that first bite or two. Just take it slow & ENJOY the flavors. You can do this!

    Today is the first day

Congratulations. We'll be wait for you on the Loser's Side. Keep us posted on how you are doing.
  9. Stacie - please let us know what your surgeon says. We are all very concerned for you. Prayers are going up.
  10. Wow! You got a great deal for local. I traveled to Vegas through Medical Tourism and paid just under $11K + pre-labs.
  11. Yum - that does sound good. I will have to try it soon.
  12. Sarah, Sounds like you are on the same track that I was on. But don't worry, it gets better by leaps and bounds day by day from here on out. Congrats on the weightloss already. You are doing AWESOME!

VSG for Lower BMI - HELP!

I was considered a "lightweight", but my surgeon used a 26 boughie. After the surgery, he said that my stomach was tight (because of my anatomy he was able to disect/staple very close to the boughie). So, in my case, pre-op size was not a factor in what amount of stomach is left. For me, I am glad - this is a lifelong change and I want the restriction so I can maintain for a lifetime.
  14. Welcome. Can't wait to hear your progress.
  15. I know it's hard - believe me, I KNOW! But, try not to compare yourself to others. Remember, this is YOUR JOURNEY. Talk with your surgeon and see what they think about your weightloss so far. If you must compare, try to do it as % lost. Did your friend have a lot more to lose.
  16. Whew! Good to know that I am not alone. I keep reading out here so many experiences where people thought things were too sweet. I'm like too sweet??? Is that even possible? :tongue_smilie:

    Length Of Hospital Stay???

I did not stay overnight which was fine with me. I had the option of inpatient or outpatient (with my surgeon's personal cell phone number). I would not recommend outpatient unless you have someone to stay with you and help you out. Good luck!
  18. We had a friend over for dinner last night. He did not know about the WLS. I started panicking because I know the ridiculously small portions I eat. So, I ended up telling him. He was so great about it - wanted to know the details & said that he could tell I'd lost weight. Whew! What a relief. Maybe telling my friends won't be so bad. Now, telling my mom???? That's another story. :thumbup1: I will see her in the summer so I have some time to decide how to handle that one.

    Surgery Tomorrow Feb 22nd

The pedicure sounds like a great way to spend the day. Good luck tomorrow!
  20. So happy for you. I did chili on my first day out too!
  21. My husband and I are going with several other couples on a road trip tour to the Grand Canyon and ending up in Vegas for a MINI Cooper gathering in late March. (Kids are staying with grandparents - so it's just the 2 of us in the car with friends ahead of us & behind us in their cars.) I am SUPER excited about the trip, but not sure how to prepare food-wise. Any hints for what type of food to take, exercise options, fastfood/restuarant ordering, etc? We will be gone about 10 days. I will be 2 months post-op by the time we leave.
  22. This is really good advice. It's your body. You need to understand the ifs, ands, and buts. You need to trust your surgeon and be comfortable with the decision. Let us know what you decide.
  23. I have regular massages for my knee. They work on the knee, hips, shoulders, and back since My knee seems to throw things outta wack. I'm not totally comfortable with laying on my stomach at 3 weeks out, but it's getting better. My knee has really been bothering me, so I made an appointment for next Friday. My doctor didn't give me any advice for when I could go back (I guess I should have asked) ... but I am going to try. I figure if it gets uncomfortable, I can just ask to shorten the session. Since we are a few weeks apart, maybe you should call your surgeon and ask. Best of luck - back pain is no fun.

VSG for Lower BMI - HELP!

I think that has been the standard protocol for years. But, several surgeons I researched said they had found great benefits for BMI of 30+. One actually said "I can do it now or wait 5 or so years when your health has declined and your BMI is 35, 40 or more". I was also required to see a pysch. as part of my pre-op testing. She also confirmed that studies are showing benefits for BMI of 30+. My surgeon said that I was definitely a "lightweight" but took my family history of morbid obesity and my personal struggle my entire life into account when making his decision to perform the sleeve on me. I honestly think this procedure will save me from the battles I have seen my family wage over the years.
