Best wishes for you. I work in Mountlake Terrace, so I'm just down the road from you. I'll be sending good vibes your way. You are well prepared & this is going to be life changing for you! Not to blow your carb count or excuse for not having a beer - but MGD 64 is only 2.4 carbs if you really HAVE to have a beer today! -
1 Month Post Gastric Sleeve Surgery And Not Happy

One more thing ... when I was researching the surgery, my nutritionist warned me that I may become lactose intolerant. Luckily, I wasn't. BUT, she did say that most people who become lactose intolerant are usually just intolerant to straight milk products - you can usually have cheese and yogurt. Have you tried Carbmaster Yogurt? It's 3 grams of carb, but has 12 grams of Protein. (I find it at Fred Meyers, but it is also available at Kroger and/or Albertsons.) It goes down super easy for me - I also mix in 1/2 scoop of "unflavored" Protein powder to get the protein count up to 21g. YUMMY! -
Thanks for sharing. I didn't have a chance to read all of it, but definitely will later today. My stall is still here (sigh) so I'm interested in reading all kinds of literature on stalls.

1 Month Post Gastric Sleeve Surgery And Not Happy

I know it's hard, but give it some time. Your body is reacting to all the stress it's been under. You had MAJOR surgery. Those 18 pounds are really good in a month - when have you ever lost 18 pounds in a month before? As far as the heartburn, has your doctor prescribed anything? If not, you should really ask for something to take. It should also help with those "hunger pangs". Keep your chin up. The first few weeks are the WORST ... it does get a lot better. I promise! -
Great job! I know you are smiling from ear to ear!!!!

Sounds like you did very well. Congratulations.

Dishes/utensils... recommendations?
MINI-Me replied to CraftyChristie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went all out & bought some china bread plates & finger bowls at a local antique shop. Makes my meal feel a little "fancier". I also purchased cocktail forks and spoons to help me get used to eating slowly. At 3 months out, I don't really need these anymore. However, my kids still like to set my place with the China - just makes it feel more like an occaision than just another meal. -

I was almost your same BMI - due to my family history, I was considered a candidate for self-pay. I was just a bit over $10K in the US. I don't have any first hand knowledge of Mexican doctors, but plenty of people on here do. Good luck with your research. -
Anna - we've all been there. Believe me!

Ready to Start Living Again
MINI-Me replied to Brian66's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome Brian. I too am very sorry for your loss. What a tremendous thing to go through and stay strong for your children. You sound like a brave and courageous man. Having this surgery will be a gift for your children - a dad that will be around for a much longer time. My dad passed away last year at 64 - much too young. He had diabetes and heart issues directly related to his obesity. It was my wake-up call. I had the surgery 3 months ago & actually feel alive again. There are day to day struggles as you get used to your new way of living/eating, but they are worth it in the end. The above comments are correct - consider us a part of your family. Come and ask questions, vent, or be nervous. You can't surprise us - we've all been there. Welcome! -
My surgeon seemed to think you would know it for sure. Rapid heartbeat and fever almost always accompany a leak from what he said.

Down a whopping 0.2 pounds, but it's down & I am hoping the 2 week stall is broken!
-
I mix 1/2 scoop into yogurt or swiss miss diet cocoa. Just be careful when adding to hot liquids - if the temp is over 140 degrees, it will clump up on you. I have made the Water just warm, mixed thoroughly and then heated it up a little more - no issues with clumping then. (I use Any whey "Flavorless" Protein that I get from Amazon.)

Tomorrow (5/3) is surgery day!

Actual Pct. of Excess Weight Lost?
MINI-Me replied to ouroborous's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 3 months out ... By the above calculation, I will be 100% of EWL in 6 pounds. That (and the fact that I want to be smaller) is why I choose 135 and not 155. My surgeon felt like it was very do-able and I am going for it! -
I haven't tried ice chips. Just doing flavored waters, etc.

Post -op liquid question
MINI-Me replied to CoachKK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The fact is, most of us didn't. I didn't focus on protein at all the first week (though I did try to get some). I just tried to get in my liquids. And, the first few days, you might not get it all in - just have liquid with you & sip as much as you can whenever you can. -
Problem drinking plain water POST SURGERY?
MINI-Me replied to LAN2k's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For me, the water feels "heavy" - it seems to want to stick in my chest. I feel the need to get up & walk around to get it to move through my stomach properly. BUT, if I add lemon juice or drink powder (like those for 16oz) it goes down with no problem. -
Congratulations!
-
I also have no idea why - I have to add things in to get rid of that uncomfortable feeling. My husband thinks I'm nuts, but I have enough company to let me know that I'm not. (Well, at least not nuts when it comes to water. Other issues??? ... Possibly!)
