Anyone going to be around to chat tonight?
MINI-Me replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Anyone out there want to chat? I'll leave the window open in case you want to join me. -
Absolutely, positively, yes ... I think we all experience it at some point. Some, more than others, but we did face our mortality when deciding on this surgery. But once my emotions settled down, I thought about all the pros and cons. The PROS so outnumbered the CONS tha I knew I had to do it. Especially FOR my family! You are ready to get on board a very emotional roller coaster. Try to focus on the positive of having your money. And, come out here for emotional support. You can do this!

Maintenance advice/suggestions/issues
MINI-Me replied to Tiffykins's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am glad this post was resurrected. After a lifetime of being fat, who would have thought we'd have concerns about being too thin. My husband says I look great where I am and it would be perfectly fine if I stopped losing. I am still struggling with the desire to be 125 to 130 so I am not sure where I will fall eventually. But, I am definitely thinking more about maintenance and what that will look like for me. -
While I have no personal experience with pregnancy and VSG, I have seen several members have successful pregnancies. I suggest doing a search for baby or pregnant to see their stories.
-
I did not have diabetes pre surgery, but since it is so prevelent in my family, it was a concern. From mt research, it seems like DS, RYN, and VSG are all likely to reduce or eliminate diabetes. Best of luck with your decision.

So, my ticker shows that my goal is 135. This was picked because I weighed that when I was 17 and thought I looked good. It's also the exact 1/2 way point on the "Normal Weight" for the BMI chart. As I got in the 140's, I thought, maybe I'll go for 125. Not really sure ... I'm bouncing between 138.8 and 141 for the last week or so. (Today exactly 140.0 with no changes to my diet.) I'm sure it's a stall & that of course, the closer I get to goal, the slower it will come off. Part of me is wondering if I'm "there". I am wearing a size 8 (and a couple of 6's). I put on a bathing suit last night & my husband just about went nuts. He couldn't believe how thin I looked. Yes, I still have areas with some fat and areas that don't look so good. But, heck. I'm not longer 17 - I have 3 children and one is in college. Do I really expect to see the 17 year-old me in the mirror. What is it about a specific number that keeps me going (obesssing)??? :confused1: :confused1: :confused1: :confused1: For those on maintenance ... How did you figure out you were where you wanted/needed to be? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you! (For some background ... my Nut and Pysch said that I would probably get to 150-155 and stop there. My surgeon said he didn't think 135 was impossible, but I needed to decide when I got closer.)

I've read that Dr. Aceves has you on a liquid diet for a lot longer than some of us. Is Beef broth or pureed Soup allowed? If so, that will allow you to get in some Protein. Another option is yogurt (if allowed). If you live near a Kroger or Fred Meyer (anywhere that sells Kroger products), they have CarbMaster Yogurt which has 12grams per container. It may take you a while to eat 6 ounces, but I bet that 12 grams will help you feel much better. Skim or lowfat milk is also a good protein source. I wouldn't worry too much about the 60+ grams of protein at this early stage, but you do need to get some. Anyone else have any ideas for liquid phase protein? -
Jane - You are so right about being a lightweight. Last night I was out at a catered function with open bar. I did not like the wine choices so I opted for a pre-surgery stand-by: Jack and Diet Coke. WOW! Knocked me off my butt & I sipped it for 45 minutes. My husband said "Not only are you a cheap date, now you are a cheap drunk. Let's go home!" So, while they may be empty calories - the fringe benefits more than make up for it. LOL!!!

Susan - LOVE the new picture. You look very happy.

Just wanted to say welcome. I'm so sorry you've had problems with your Band. We have a lot of band to sleeve revisions on here. I'm sure they will chime in with their stories soon. Until then ... welcome & happy reading.
-
Hey! That's why we chose this particular surgery -right? To be able to enjoy just about anything in moderation. Best of luck.
-
Jane - You may have seen my post where I am struggling to decide what my goal should actually be. I'm sitting at 139.2 this morning and I am 5'6". I saw in your goal post that you were at 133. That is awesome. Do you mind me asking how tall you are? Part of me feels like I may be at a good point, but there is part of me that is hung up on a number. I had picked 135 7 months ago, but I've been thinking 130. Don't really have an explanation for that, just that it's 1/2 way point on the BMI scale for my height.
Thanks - You have done awesome!

I was cleared for white wine at 2 months out. I enjoy a drink or two every now and then. Just be careful when you start. It affects people very differently after surgery. For me, it hits quick, but the effects go quickly too. I tend to like to sip on wine for the evening (have to add an ice cube cause it gets warm because I take so long). Beer is ok, but very filling and I don't enjoy it as much as I did pre-surgery. But, before you drink anything, make sure your surgeon clears you.

Many of us had many "last suppers". I think it's a natural progression & for many of us a way to say "good bye" to old habits. Just try to reign it in a bit & get ready for your pre-op diet.
-
That is SOOOO wonderful. Glad to hear that he is so supportive and willing to go on the journey with you. Isn't it funny how we can work ourselves all up & the outcome is so much better than we expect! Keep us updated on your progress.

What type of issues are you having with your band. If you can show that it is causing serious physical issues, you may have a case for them covering the removal. Since WLS is not covered by your current plan (a choice made by your husband's company, not the insurance company) you will have to pay for the sleeve yourself. However, since there is already OR and surgical time for the band removal, etc, you can negotiate with your surgeon for a much lower cost on the sleeve. Best of luck!

LOL David - I can so relate to that feeling! Congratulations on your decision.
