Do you think you could have done this on your own
MINI-Me replied to Toyia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my track record says no way, no how. The sleeve gives me the discipline by limiting how much I can eat at a time. I finally have the means to be successful. Yeah! -
Congratulations!
-
You will have a new way of eating to get used to for sure. But, it's not that hard ... it helps that it physically hurts to eat too much. Good luck on your journey. Definitely be thinking about what you can eat post-surgery. You will want to have that on hand when you get home from your VSG procedure. Best of luck!

This is going to be almost impossible for anyone to answer unless they have your same insurance and same surgeon. Do you have an Out of Pocket Maximum? If so, that should be the maximum you will have to pay. Otherwise, have your surgeon provide the codes he will be billing and his charges. Then, call Aetna & have them tell you their allowed amount and payment. Your copay should be the difference in their paid and the allowed amount. The surgeon may be able to give you similiar information about the hospital charges.

Deciding whether to schedule a date or not
MINI-Me replied to raven_magnolia's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As soon as I knew this was the surgery for me and what I needed to "beat" my obesity, I could not wait to schedule my appointment - the sooner the better. Have you thought about talking to your family & getting their reaction instead of just guessing? -

Sleep study charged my insurance SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS
MINI-Me replied to DougNichols's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What's charged and what's allowed are completely different things. Also - what was included in the charge? Was it the night in the clinic, the 8 hour monitoring, the equipment, the results and the reading? -
I am reading this at work and completely burst out laughing. My team must think I'm nuts (well, at least this is further proof that I'm nuts) ... Thanks for the laugh.

Is a weight gain normal?
MINI-Me replied to Quixotic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your "gain" is most likely Fluid retention after surgery. I'm sure you were pumped with fluids in your 3 day stay to avoid dehydration. Were you given a prescription for the heartburn? Most doctors put you on a PPI for the first 6 months. If you don't have a script or a way to get one, try one of the over the counter medications - it really will help! Congratulations on your surgery. -

Practice makes perfect?
MINI-Me replied to Peronella's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sip, sip, sip ... it will get better - PROMISE! -
I am also on Prilosec. I have an HSA program which means I pay the full "allowed" amount until I meet my high deductible. That total is $50/30 day supply. If you are only paying a percentage of the drug, you should be able to get Prilosec a lot cheaper than Nexium.

Gosh! Somehow I missed your post. I'm in the Seattle area as well. I iddn't have surgery with the Center, but have heard GREAT things about them. Actually, I'm going to be using Melanie's staff to help me with my maintenance plan. I sent you a friend request. Do you attend any of the support groups? I go to the one in Marysville.

First let me say, that I am definitely not the poster child for WLS. I eat right 90% of the time, BUT I have not been good about exercise. I was fortunate to have made goal in 9 months. That being said, I did find that my activity level has increased - I am up and down the stairs at home a lot more than I used to be. So, I do get more activity in, just not structed exercise. If you simply cannot exercise due to pain, talk with your doctor. Maybe they can suggest ways to get moving that do not cause pain. How long did it take for the 32 pounds to come off? Looks like you are 1/3 of the way to your goal - you must be doing something right! As Diva said - WLS isn't a magic pill ... but it is a tool that helps me finally succeed at maintaining a healthy weight. Best of luck. If you need a friend or advice, please feel free to message me.

That is awesome. Enjoy the feeling ... 'Cause soon you will be "NORMAL"!!!!!
