I have struggled with weight all of my life. I decided that now is the time to take total control of the problem. I went to the Lap Band Website and serched for a surgeon in my area. I found Dr. Shayani who was a preferred surgeon on the website. I contacted the office and had my first appointment. I had to go through several pre operative appointments before my surgery. I had an upper GI done, EKG, blood work, and had to meet with a Phychiatrist and a Nutritionist. After all of that we submitted to my insurance for approval. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield IL. It was instantly denied. They said there was not enough documentation of a six month medically supervised diet. I had submitted receipts and journals from Weight Watchers. It was denied again for the same reason. When I called them on the phone they could not tell me exactly what was missing. I explained to them what each document was that was sent to them by my surgeon. They still could not give me a good answer. The secretary in the surgeons office sent all of the paperwork in again for the third time with a letter mapping out what each document was and why it was in there. They then aproved it after that letter. I had surgey on June 24th 2011 and one month post op now I have lost 20 lbs, and I am ready for my first fill.
