  1. I had the exact same problem following surgery. At my week post op visit my surgeon said it was hypoglycemia and suggested that I have a protein shake before bed to sustain my blood sugar overnight and that worked great for me.
  2. I am 2 weeks post op and have an area of about 5 inches in diameter around the port/incision that is numb. It has been this way for two days now. Feels like that area fell asleep. I haven't read anything about this anywhere. Has anyone else experienced this? Of course it is a holiday weekend and I started worrying about it after Dr offices closed. I am hoping others had this happen and it is not a problem.

    Aggravating...

I thought your response was perfect!! I LOVE the gym and especially group fitness classes. I (or anyone else I could talk out of going there) definately would not be giving his business any of my money. Like you explained, I think we all know diet and exercixe are imortant. I have been going to the gym, doing weight loss challenges and trying different ways to place in them for 3 years. All to lose and gain the same 25-30 lbs. After 6 months of being so strict in my diet I tell myself I will have 1 cheat day which always turns into months of cheat days. Even still going to the gym I cant create a deficit of calories on most days if I am "treating" myself. I didn't tell anyone at the gym, clients, trainers or instructors that I was having this surgery. My first time back at the gym will be tomorrow after a week of not being there...and I am so excited. I had the band surgery 1 week ago so I am just in the beginning stages of this choice but I will defend my right to have my choice respected to the end. Thanks for sharing your post.
  4. As I have been reading on this forum it is amazing the difference in post op diets. I had my surgery 5/13/11. Below s my diet from surgeon. Week 1-4 Clear liguids with 3 Protein shakes and diluted V8 juice Week 5-8 pureed food, baby food even need to blend cottage cheese and oatmeal Week 9 Start solid foods slowly 3 meals per day of 1oz each

band discomfort 5 days post op

I had my band placed on May 13th and really thought recovery would not be quite so hard. The first 2 days I didn't handle the pain very well and was taking pain meds every 4 hrs but really wanted it more around 2 hrs. I really had great plans on taking the week off work but really only being unable to do much for a couple of days. This is not the vacation I thought it might be. Today has been much better and most of the pain is focused in the port area. I really want to get back to the gym. I haven't been in 5 days and was used to going 6 days per week. Dr. says I can increase my activity level as my body dictates...but I want it to happen now. I am happy with not feeling much hunger. I have to follow a 4 week liquid diet just like the preop diet was, them I will have to eat mushies for 3 weeks. So I guess in 7 weeks I will get to eat real food. I see that many people on here are only on liquids for a couple weeks. I must say I wish that were my case. I have so many things I am looking forward to this summer so I am hoping to heal quickly and get this show on the road. I have a 5 mile run coming up beginning of June and then my kids and I are registered for Rock N Roll Marathon Seattle. I am really excited but the furthest I have done is 7.5 miles so I need to continue my training. I wish all of you going through this post op time the best for recovery.

    10 pounds in 2 days

Sounds about like mine. I lost about about 2.5 lbs per day on the liquid diet for preop. I was banded this morning and I am in a hospital room as we speak. So excited....

    Any May 2011 Banders?

So I have been reading this forum and signed up but haven't posted because I figured it would make me sad if I got denied. My seminar was 3/3/11 and I have my surgery 5/13/11. I am currently on the clear liquid fast diet for 7 days. So far I have lost 12 lbs in 5 days...not to bad. Not looking forward to the 4 week clear liguid diet with the addition of V8 juice after surgery. Seems so long especially when others don't have to do it before or that long after surgery. But I am going to follow the directions go end to me to make the most of this opportunity I have to become healthy. Best of luck to us all!!!

    Surgery is this Friday yikess

My surgery is Friday and I am on fifth day preop liquid diet. The first 2 1/2 days I almost cried several times because I was so hungry!!! I am having caffiene and I am only allowed clear liquids...no veggies or even one small meal. I have lost 10 lbs the first 5 days which gives me the inspiration to continue being strict on my diet. Good luck to you!!!
