9 days out have MAJOR concerns. HELP!!!!!!!!
luvthe8r replied to Skinnyagain's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so glad to read this. Skinnyagain, I am just 1 day after you and was thinking exactly the same thing today. I hated to complain because most would feel blessed that they had no trouble drinking anything, and was really worried that I was going to be that one in a million that was unphased by the surgery. Besides the fact that I am sick to tears of Protein shakes, Jello and popsicles, I am really feeling pretty normal. So glad to hear from some of the "old timers" that it will change once solids come into play. Also, I had my 1st post-op yesterday and had to do a barium drink and xray and saw my little banana of a stomach, so do know for sure a big chunk of it is gone and the incisions aren't just for fun! -
You can normally find it anywhere...just look for the blue box.

The best NSV thus far ! ! !

What fabulous news! Congratulations! -
Denise, Any tips you can provide to those of us newly sleeved on what is making you so successful? You are doing fantastic!

I'm 53 and was sleeved last Wednesday. I started menopause at about 43 and I was on hormones, but the Dr at the hospital told me to completely stop taking them, so this must really change everything in your system. (and if I am off them for good, yee haw!) I actually have been off them since 2 weeks prior to surgery and not one hot flash. Can't comment on the mood swings yet...

Forest Park Medical Center - Dallas, TX
luvthe8r replied to Carrie's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I was a Forest Park Medical Center (the staff was great!) however, they overbooked (guess they confused surgery with taking a flight on an airplane! I am still wondering if they expected no shows) and there were no rooms available, so I had to stay in Recovery. There was no room for any visitors and no clock or TV. Not that it really mattered the first day since all I did was sleep. The problem was the next day. It was very noisy in recovery and there were no lights above the beds, but the lights in the hallway never went out, so I had no concept of what time it was. Then they tell you to drink every 15 minutes and keep track of it. I didn't have a clock so couldn't time myself, and no lights so couldn't write anything, and they told me not to go to sleep because I needed to get my liquids in, however, with NOTHING to do, it was hard to stay awake. I would walk as much as possible (and I do think that is probably why I feel pretty good today) But I didn't have the advantage of other bariatric patients around so I didn't get any walking buddies. They said this has only happened one other time and that was over the Christmas holiday. So I say if you are going to Forest Park, make sure it isn't over Christmas or Spring break or any other holiday. -
March Role Call!!

I was sleeved on Wednesday. Wow, it has been a wild ride so far! I was the poster child for the 2 week pre-op liquid diet. Didn't go off it one time. I think that part made the surgery go much faster. I was in surgery about 45 min and that included a Hiatal Hernia repair. My surgery was at 7am. I was in recovery by 8. I did get a horrible migraine that night and ended up with the dry heaves and that hurt!!! Today, after sleeping in my own bed I feel much better. My stomach is making bizarre noises, and I am uncomfortable, but not really in a lot of pain. So far, everything has gone down and stayed down. I haven't ventured past Water, Crystal Light and Isopure. I think the worst is the pain medicine. It tastes nasty! However I am going to wean off it soon! I have to be back to work on Wednesday so no time to wimp out! Hope the rest of the March sleevers are marching right along! -

Day 5 Pre-Op DIET!!! yes yes yes!!!!
luvthe8r replied to Weightbgone's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on day 9. I am not really hungry, but kinda bored with just drinking shakes and eating jello! Here is the odd part to me. I dropped 10 lbs the first week and I have gained 2 lbs over the last 2 days. Really shows you how odd the human body can react sometimes. There is NOTHING logical to gaining weight while on a strict liquid diet. Good luck!!! -
Does anyone ever feel like we took the "easy way" out?

CONGRATULATIONS! Lifting you up in prayers while you get through the next couple of days (which I hear are the worst)!!! -
Just checking in to see how your surgery went. I am 9 days after you with Dr. Kim also, so can't wait to hear your experience!

Having a hard time getting ready for pre-op diet:>(
luvthe8r replied to Weightbgone's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on day 6 also. I am not hungry, but really bored with drinking shakes. I have found that if I keep myself really busy I am better. I painted a room yesterday and my garage doors. So I might not like the 2 week pre-op, but at least my house is getting a makeover! -
I am right there also! I have been on the liquid pre-op for 5 days and have lost 10 lbs. I keep thinking...why don't I just stay on this until I lose 100 lbs and then eat like I did have the surgery and save myself the money and the pain. Then I walk by a mirror, or walk up the stairs, or bend over to put my shoes on and realize about every 3 years, I do great taking weight off... hence the problem... I can't keep it off. I am embarrassed that I have such low will power, then I realize I have a disease and trying to cure it, and then I panic over what I am actually doing to my body... it is an endless rollercoaster!

Does anyone ever feel like we took the "easy way" out?
luvthe8r replied to Brian66's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I agree with John and would love to hear from thinoneday or anyone else who is a 1 year + about what is probably going to happen 1 year down the road. I have read a lot of posts from those that are 5 days out or 3 months out, but I am not finding a lot from those 1-2 years out. Don't know if they don't need to be on the forums for support anymore or just have moved on... I lost 80 lbs on a popular diet last year. Kept it off 9 months and then gained it all back and then some. I am a self pay and don't want to spend the money if the sleeve "tool" virtually stops working after a while. I am not a pessimist...just need to know....and I an not looking for sugarcoating...just honesty! Thanks... -
Day 6 update (for those who are interested)
luvthe8r replied to 2bslimkim's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Lovin' the updates!!! You are an inspiration. -
I feel exactly the same way. I am not a hairdresser, but I get lots of compliments on my haircut (thanks to a good hairdresser!) and most days that is the only thing on my body I am content with. I went in for my Pre-admit yesterday and I asked the nurse about it. She said if you follow orders and get the required Protein in and take your Vitamins, then you shouldn't lose your hair. I am so hoping she is right!!!

Why did he tell everyone??
luvthe8r replied to 2*the*new*me's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Holly, wondering how everything went with your surgery yesterday. I am still a few weeks away. I am going thru exactly the same thing as you did. I just really didn't feel like telling anyone prior to the surgery and asked him to please not tell anyone. I actually thought, who really would he have to tell??? This is not about him, it is about me. Well, he told his brother he was taking a week off (but left out the part about me having surgery) and his brother decided to come for a visit during that week. I threw a fit because I really don't want to have company at my house the day I come home from the hospital and so he called and said I was having "unexpected" surgery and then said don't worry because his brother won't tell anyone anything. I got home from work today to a message from his mother and sister wanting to know exactly what the surgery is for. About an hour later, I got an email from my sister-in-law asking the same thing (And of course, I would do exactly the same thing if I found out they were having surgery.) I really don't want a lecture on why I shouldn't do this....and I am pretty sure I have 3 lectures coming if I tell them the truth. But at the same time don't want to lie. I honestly thought I would never have to tell them. Such a dilemma.... do I tell them or not??? -
I'm a March 16 one also!!! I am excited and nervous.... but I am ready to change!
