    MARCH 2011 BANDSTERS!

I was banded 3/17/11 and am down 24 lbs since starting my pre-op diet on 3/14/11. I am still hesitant to eat anything that has not been run thru a blender first. Like last nite for dinner was pureed chicken mixed in with Mushroom soup. My normal day consists of a protein shake in the morning, oatmeal (w/ water) as mid-morning snack, and ensure for lunch, an applesauce and pudding for afternoon snack, and the dinner which may be the chicken w/ mushroom soup or mashed potaoes mixed in with baby food meat......I usually have another pudding for desert......I'm not starving, and I don't really get the chance to be hungry since I am eatting every few hours,,,,,but I do miss that FULL feeling. I am terrified of having a "stuck" episode and therefore dont even really want to move onto the next phase yet. I know I eventaully have to but I am still hesitant. As for fluids, I drink ALOT. I TRY not to gulp down my Crystal lite or gatorade like I used to and dont drink as much as I used to, but my body gets dehydrated quickly. I have yet to feel full from drinking fluids, and I have read that fluids slide right throiugh the band. I wasn't really worried about stretching my piuch because of that.....hope I'm right lol....

    My experience so far.

I actually had alot of trouble with the protein shakes because they taste sooo horrible....I skipped drinking them for a few days and felt sooo run down,,,,,My brother-n-law introduced me to a tasty actually very tasty protein shake and I am back and drinking them....I still feel a bit run down but I think thats from life and this big change in general......as for the mushies I have been eatting mashed potatoes mixed in with meat baby food....applesauce, pudding, oatmeal.......

    My experience so far.

It has been exactly 2 weeks since my surgery and I am no longer sore or achy from the operation. I am still eatting soft/ mushy foods and am ok with that so far still......I did try scrambled eggs on day 10 and it didnt go down well.....I did not throw up but salivated alot for 5 minutes until it passed and then I was fine. I am down 22 pounds since I began my 3 day pre-op diet. Starting weight was 230 and now I am 208. Sometimes I am happy I did it, other times, not so much......it's still early and I am still getting used to everything.......

    Lap band issues when sick

I have a lifetime problem with UTI's!!! I HATE HATE HATE them.........I wonder how I will be be able to help flush the UTI's away now that I can't gulp down tons of fluids at a time to help myself out! This is a concern for me. I usually try to keep antibiotics around so the first sign of one coming I try to catch it before it gets too bad.....I couldnt imagine having to wait to see a doc when I am in that amount of discomfort!! Hope you feel better soon!
  8. I was banded 3/17/11 and so far everythng has begun as I expected.....until last night. I began getting severe pains in my left shoulder. I assumed it was gas and continued taking my GASX but nothing helped. It wasn't a pain that was in front of or behind the shoulder....it was sort of on top. Like where my shirt rests or my bra strap is. Now, I find myself to be a pretty strong person with hhigh oain tolerance, but this HURT. It eased up into the evening and I felt fine. I had the exact same debilitating pain today and called my doctor to see if he could order me something stronger for Gas...... My doctor told me it wasnt gas pain. It was from him "dissecting" my left side and that is why it is my left shoulder hurting. He promised it would go away within a week and to take tylenol or advil or something......I was on pain meds by the time he had called me back and I didont ask what exactly he meant by "dissection"....... Any ideas what he was referring to or anyone this happen to?
  9. Dr Choi did my Band 3 days ago on 3/17/11 and so far so good!!! Iam a bit sore which is to be expected and a bit gassy in the shoulder/ back.....I really liked the staff and facility!!

    First week aftersurgery

My stomach is growling at me a bit also. It is so mental FOR ME. I just feel I should be eatting, even when I havnt been hungry. I want to TASTE things and I think it's all just the mental fight in my head. I am just sticking to the directions I was given, which is 4oz clear liquid once every hour. Broth, applejuice, gatorade.......Oh, my surgery was yesterday.
  12. My surgery was this morning at Strax Rejuventation in Florida. I got there at 8am and was taken to the back where I was checked and preped for surgery. Everyone was nice and helpful. I didnt like my husband couldnt come back with me but they dont have the room there for family members. After they took my BP, chked for pregnancy, diabetes, etc I laid around waiting for a bit and then they came and got me. I remember NOTHING. Once I laid down on the Operating room table they quickly gave my the sleepy stuff and next thing I knew I was in recovery waking up. I couldnt believe it was over! I have a pretty high pain tolerance but the larger incision was pretty hurty. I told the nurse and she gladly gave me more pain meds. I was in receovery maybe 45 minutes or so. The only thing really bothering me was the one out of 5 incicions. Once I got home I took a pain pill and put my self to bed for the afternoon. I woke up around 530 from my nap and and a BIT with the gassy filling. The incison doesnt hurt anymore, but I do feel like I was punched in gut. Nothing horrible, just sore.....I am drinking 4oz of clear liquids every hour and for now I am ok!! I'll add more later if my pain changes!

    March 2011 Bandsters

Hi! My surgery is scheduled for 3/17/11! I have to do a 3 day liquid diet that I started this morning. I am so thankful I didn't have to do 3 week liquid diet prior to surgery. My diet consists of drinking skim milk, Protein drink, broth, 100% fruit juice - rotating these every 2 hrs. Ex- 8AM Protein Drink, 10AM broth, 12PM skim milk.......etc, etc.....no more than 6 oz at a time.....Actually., my protein drink is only 4 oz...... I am excited and nervous. I am 34 yrs old, 5,4 and 225 lbs.....it is time for a CHANGE! Jessica
