    Thoughts on Surgery Today

Said a quick prayer for rest and no pain. Hang in there and update us soon. I'm so happy for you!

    Hot August Sleever!!

I actually don't start mine until tomorrow. I know, most people are jealous but I have my surgery Monday and don't get to go home until Wednesday even though I live 7 minutes away. Lol. It's all a trade off. I've caught myself doing the food funerals too but now that I'm so close I honestly just want to get it done and for the first time I'm getting a glimpse at "nothing tastes as good as thin feels".

    Birth control after VSG?

I'm looking at an IUD as well. I asked my surgeon about it at my preop appointment and they said I had to wait at least one month. I had hoped to be able to get it while I was off for my sleeve but that's apparently a no go. Every time I lose weight I get pregnant and then miscarry and even though a baby is one of the contributing factors to my decision to sleeve, my gyno made me promise not to even talk to my husband in a dark room without birth control. She also anticipates that the surgery will help regulate my periods and even lighten them some. Another welcome "side effect" for sure.

    Thoughts on Surgery Today

I'm so happy for you guys! I was on vacation this week and had to spend my few "free' moments daily doing work so I didn't get to personally wish you good luck but you were definitely in my thoughts and prayers. Bryn, I'm so happy about your parents' support and that you are feeling so good. It makes me feel like I can do this too. Make some room for me - just 2 more days and I'll be joining you!

    Hot August Sleever!!

Thanks! I plan to post my whole experience. I read these boards voraciously, constantly looking for new information and I want to share my story in the hopes that even one thing I say might help someone like everyone has helped me.

    Hot August Sleever!!

Congrats on the dates, guys! My surgery is Monday but my birthday is August 4th so Julie76 and I are going to be sisters. Good luck to all!
  7. I actually posted this in response to a thread in the Protein section but since we're all either in or soon to be in the "tiny tummy and large protein requirements on a liquid diet" category, I thought I'd post it here as well. These are just some things that I have tried and enjoyed so I thought I'd share it with you guys. I just really hope it helps someone! I read something somewhere on here about Sunkist Protein and after some research I ordered it and some other stuff by the same company. You can get the Sunkist in "shots" like the one you mentioned but the ingredients include whey protein isolate and casein protein isolate (in that order). You can get it in 25 gram and 42 gram protein (2 carbs) "shots". I bought the 42 gram and I LOVE the orange. Like I would seriously drink it with no problem - although I'm aware that may change after surgery. I also ordered a box of the grape (which I haven't tried yet) but didn't get the fruit punch because there's a 26 gram protein shot at WalMart that's fruit punch flavored. It's pricey, but my theory is, one of those (again, smaller in volume than even one shake, let alone 3!) coupled with one scoop of unflavored unjury spread throughout the day gives me 62 grams of protein from day 1. I plan to use this until I can start getting more protein from food. Another one that I found is called Profect and it is made by the same company, Protica Research. They're the ones that do protein candy and Jello. You can get sample flavors of the Profect 25 and then once you decide which one you like, you can order your preferred flavor in the 50 gram tubes with 0 carbs! Again, these are pricey and slightly thick but not nearly as much as a regular Protein Shake. Also, you can always thin it with Water if you choose. I actually found one flavor of the Profect 25 in a local Rite Aid but I checked 3 CVS' (where their web site says to check) but couldn't find any. It was the fresh citrus berry which again tasted like fruit punch. Please note that the Sunkist listed on the Profect link is for 24 gram not the 42. I am cheap but I figure I'm only going to be using these for a month or so and I want to hit the ground running so it was a worthwhile splurge to me. Hope someone gets some use out of this.

    July Master List

Congratulations!! I'm so happy for you! I swear when I got my date I thought I might be able to just happy dance all the weight off! Lol.

    I'm registered!

I'm at the hospital now getting all of my preregistration done so that I can go to the beach this week then have my surgery on the 18th! And better yet, even though I have about $650 left on my out of pocket (deductible has been met), they didn't ask me for a dime! This is starting to feel real! I go for my last appointment with my surgeon at 12:15. Any suggestions on last minute questions? I know when I'll be released, when I can shower and, um, have fun and what size bougie he uses. Any other suggestions?
  10. I'm scheduled for the 18th as well but I'll be in Huntington, WV. I think there are 5 or 6 of us now. Be sure to comment on the July Master List thread so you can be added to the list. Great to see you on here!

    Some Protein Thoughts

Yeah, I definitely thought they were way pricey too! The Sunkist are like $2.50 (12 in a box for $29.95) and the Profect 50s are $3.28ish (24 for $78.76) each but that doesn't include shipping. Of course if you look online, you can find a coupon so that shipping on $100 or more is free on the site that sells the Sunkist ones. But me never doing anything for myself is what got me here in the first place. Plus, I'll end up saving that much on lunch out (or even Lean Cuisines!) after surgery. I really wish there was a retail store for them so I could buy them a few at a time but I reallotted other money and splurged and I'm glad I did. I will definitely not be using them long term but for the first few weeks after surgery I hope they're going to be worth it.

    Power Shots of Protein

Oh yeah! And for you East coasters - I got the Sunkist the day after I ordered it because it came from Columbus, OH and the Profect the next day because it came from PA. Just FYI.

    Taking the PLUNGE!

Ka-Trina, who is your surgeon? I only have 2 days as well. I'm going today for my last meeting with the dietician regarding surgery prep and postop diet, I assume.

    Taking the PLUNGE!

I'm scheduled for the 18th so I'm not too far off. However, my doc only has me doing a 2 day liquid pre-op diet (I think) so you'll already be sleeved by the time mine starts. I keep telling myself I can do anything for 2 days! I do a 30 hour famine for World Vision at least once a year so I think I'll be fine. It would be amazing to have support, though. Oddly, I feel supported just knowing that some of you are going to be close to me (I'm in WV). Here we go!

Sorry, just reread. Apparently AshleyC is July 8. My bad! That's what I get for posting early in the morning. Hopefully I'm over this insomnia by the 18th!

    July Master List

I'm with Valentine, MLD and AshleyC! Yay for July 18th! Good luck to those already sleeved or being sleeved today. You're forging our path here! Fat4Now, I'm so sorry! Insurance will definitely help financially but I know how bummed you must be. Is there anything we can do to help? Remember, we've been through it!

Where have all the cowboys gone?

I'm worried about my tea. I drink unsweetened at McDonald's but it has caffeine and mine at home isn't as good without sugar. Plus it strips the iron from food (and me) so even though I take iron pills it makes me nervous. Oh, and I have been on a bowl an evening cold cereal kick... Do you think they make low Carb lucky charms I could sprinkle protein powder on?

Ok July Firecracker are youll ready?

Got my date! My new life starts July 18th! I am so excited! I talked my doctor's office and they are letting me do part of my pre op this week. That means I can spend 4 days at the beach (once my daughter gets back from her mission trip) before I do my final pre op the 15th and start my new life tan and happy! Woo-Hoo! Put me on that list and make room on the losers' bench.
