Can not get in more than 50 gr, protein a day. Nut wants 70. I get sick to my stomach after first 10 sips each time. Takes like 3 hours to drink one. UGH!!!
-
great to hear it all went well! Now you can take is slow and get yourself back on track.

I weighed when I first got home day 3 and was up about 5 pounds. I have weighed everyday since and the scale is moving down every day. I was told to drink milk of mag if I didn't go after day 4 so i did and boy does that stuff work but it made my stomach gurgle for almost 24 hours. I only took one dose a day for two days and then stopped for a few days to see if i was back on track and I am now. I think if given the option I would try something more gentle before taking mom again. Good luck!

Protein drinks gagging me
twoboysandagirl replied to HeresKimmy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have tried about 4 different kinds...I like nectar twisted cherry OK. but I couldn't drink it three times a day. Went and talked to gnc employee. They gave me several to try and I personally like the one I bought. It is called Gold Standard 100% Whey. I bought the extreme milk chocolate but they had several flavors like, vanilla, cookies and cream, strawberry, and banana cream. I was also told that if you dont like what you buy from GNC you get to return it. That was worth trying for me because I've spent like 75 dollars trying others that I can not drink now. -
I also put mine on asap but my bra is another story. My surgery was a week ago tomorrow and I wear a sleep bra(left over from pregnancy) most of the time because my highest incision hits my bra. It is a small incision and healing great but it is just a little unnerving.

Just want to say I think it is SO cool that I am posting on the OTHER (post) side now.

What exactly is the purpose of walking post op? And other questions
twoboysandagirl replied to peatie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ok so I am no pro...I was just sleeved a few days before you but here is what my Nutritionist and Surgeon told me. We walk to help circulation and avoid blood clots. It also makes the trapped gas from surgery to move and expel so that we do not have gas pains. I walked all the time in the hospital and I felt great AFTER I got going each time. My surgeon expected me to get in at least 15 ounces the first two days and then no less than 34 each day...working to increase to 64. I can get about 34 now but I have to work at it even drinking every time I wake up at night. I have found that if I fill a big Water bottle with my required amount then I use those little disposable cups for the bathroom they hold 3 ounces. I refill those and drink out of them (that helps me to only take little sips). I also use those for Protein. My DR says that any Fluid I take in counts toward the 34 ounces. I am not sure what full liquids are for your NUT. Mine said it is liquid that is not clear that does not have chunks. Hope that helps. If you are still in the hospital I think you should ask to see your Nut or one there at the hospital so they can explain it. Also my Nut told me to email her with ANY questions. Is that an option for you? Good LUCK -
Hey just think that even if you weight loss slows down atleast you know that every pound we lose will be a pound gone forever.

Putting myself on voluntary 2wk pre-op diet
twoboysandagirl replied to tiffnie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh my! I was required a two day clear liquid diet and my surgeon said my liver looked great. I was only allowed liquid you can see through and no protein drinks. And no red dye. Jello, broth, crystal light, water. I really dont think I could have done that pre-op. I know others have but I think that my surgeon decides what is best for you. Do you have reason to believe your liver is really large? I think if you just do a hard core low fat, low carb diet you will be fine. Then just do the liquids like the DR said. I lost 3 pounds doing the colon cleanse the night before. Good Luck to you. -
I think I may have hurt myself
twoboysandagirl replied to lisabug's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
oh no Lisabug! I am so afraid of picking up my kids. Have you ever noticed these knots before? I pray everything is ok. Let us know what happens. -
For before surgery I only bought some clear liquids Popsicles (couldn't be red, purple, or orange), chicken and beef broth, jello, juice (again no purple, red or orange dye), I had some protein shakes stuff (but was not allowed to drink it 2 days prior to surgery) and some powerade Zero. Since I got home I have bought two different kinds of protein trying to find one I like enough to drink 3 times a day. I haven't used any jello yet. Still hard to get in liquids so I am taking it slow. Mostly water and protein. Sometimes I want is a taste of something else so i drink about 2 ounces of powerade. I didn't buy all kinds of stuff like some of the blogs and youtube videos where they recommend hundreds of dollars in supplies. My surgeon doesn't start vitamins or calcium until after my post op appointment at 2 weeks. So I just waited to buy them. I used this web site for advice and read everything my surgeons team gave me about 100 times. I know that it is overwhelming there is a ton of information out there. Good Luck to you.

Hungry I think
twoboysandagirl replied to Wildorchids's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey, I know what you mean....it is just head hunger for me. I have been helping with meals for my three kids and you know you are hungry when you think a handfull of gold fish crackers or chicken nuggets would be yummy. I finally found a protein shake that is good so maybe now I wont want the food. There is NO way in this world I am eating anything unless my nut tells me too. But sometimes it makes me a little sad that it has been 1 entire week (and a day) since I put food in my mouth. Today I have been repeating FAT HURTS, SKINNY FEELS GOOD! WE CAN DO THIS! -
Just sleeved on Tues and have questions about the pain
twoboysandagirl replied to drysdale's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on Dec 6. I did great day 1 and 2 but it was because when I felt pain I push my pain pump. On day two they took that away and I literally cried when they gave me the loratab or lortab (liquid pain med). I was scared to swallow and it tasted so horrible I was afraid to throw up. I learned how to take it with the help of a very patient nurse. Tiny sip pain med, tiny sip water, tiny sip pain med, tiny sip water...it took 20 mins to take my pain med. I came home on day 3 and it was a horrible night because of the car ride (3hours). Day 4 I guess was a little better. Day 5 I went to the pharmacy and bought liquid tylenol. Suprised it was easy to find. It doesnt work like the lortab but it takes the edge off. I still take a long time to take a dose it tastes nasty but it helps. It cost about $6.00 and I figured I will use it in the future for headaches so I wont waste it at all. I too think walking makes a big difference. I am not ready to take everything on again but I feel like I am getting back to normal each day. -

Any December Sleevers?
twoboysandagirl replied to weightnomore's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey that is great! I am glad that the gas is getting better. I did so much walking at the hospital but I havent done much at home. Gonna get busy today. Got to find a new protein. The one I have is fine and yesterday I got in quite a bit of it but I am tired of the flavor already. So how long will you be on liquids? They told me that after the first week on broths, crystal light, sf drinks, and water, sf popsciles, and protein shakes, I could eat greek yogart or cottage cheese if I was getting in 70 grams of protein. At this point have NO desire to eat yogart or cottage cheese and am pretty far from 70 grams of protein. BUT I am getting in about 40 ounces of water so I am happy. Still taking pain meds? I am. I am also dealing with a lot of gurgling. Hoping today I turn the corner on the pain meds. Can't wait to hear from you and everyone else sleeved in DEC. -
How are you? I think we were both sleeved on the 6th. Maybe we could swap stories. Can't wait to hear from you.

Military Hospitals and VSG
twoboysandagirl replied to Disney's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had surgery at San Diego Naval Hospital (Balboa). I was set to have surgery by civilian and tricare was going to pay for bypass but to make a long story short God closed all those doors and I ended up at Balboa. Now I will say that I feel like I had to jump through more hoops and around more obstacles than if I had it done at civilian facility. My surgeeon was experienced and his staff cared about me. It is almost like they do not want to perform many of these because you have to be VERY determined to get through all their pre-op but if you are determined there is literally $0 out of pocket. We live 3 hours from MTF where it was performed so Tricare is paying for trip there and two night hotel for my hubby while I was in surgery. I was so disappointed when things didnt go the way I planned in the beginning but I know now that I wouldnt have ended up with a sleeve if I had pushed to have the civilian doctor. Good Luck to you. I am sure that if surgery is right for you there will be a way for it to all work out.
