Northern/Central california surgeons?
SFOTraveler replied to RaiderRob's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I just had surgery with Cirangle on 12/28 and I live in the East Bay. His office acts like that is SO far away, and they don't want to hassle me with driving over the bridge... I find it very sweet. I did my nutrition consult over the phone to avoid this. And I though that one of my incisions might be infected so they told me to come on in (they normally have a 2-3 wk check up and I was 10 days out). I met w/ Cirangle and he told me that since I had come in that day to just wait another month since everything was going well. I wouldn't discredit the follow up. Any doc should want to follow up at certain intervals to see how you're doing and make sure that you are losing weight at the right rate. The practice in general is great. Cirangle is excellent at what he does (you should see how amazingly small and perfect my incisions are). My only complaint is that he is late for everything!!! He was 2hrs late for my first appt, and then 2 hrs late for my surgery to start. AHHHHHHHHHHHH -
crossposting.. VITAMINS/PROTEIN REGIMINE?
SFOTraveler replied to fullhandsfullheart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take the sublingual B-12, prilosec, 2 Flinstones complete chewables, 2 tums (for Calcium... they told me to start with that during healing time)..... and i think that is it! As for Protein, I am still on liquids but I was told to get 70g a day. I am around 50-60ish per day normally all thanks to Myoplex. I get the dark choc one and drink it over ice. It is only 260 calories and has 42g of protein in 16oz. I also do the little packets that make Soup or "punch" and each have 15g. -
Mushy food question
SFOTraveler replied to fullhandsfullheart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't technically gotten to mushies yet, but my doc tells us this: Eat 3 meals a day. Sit down with your 1/4 cup of yogurt, cottage cheese, whatever, and eat SLOWLY. It should take around 30 minutes to consume it. If you feel full, STOP. Like stop completely, and put it away. Do not eat again until your next meal time. And then continue in between with the protein supplements to get in enough protein. HIs point is to learn not to snack, and that there are set mealtimes. You don't need to consume an entire serving of something. I have been bad and eaten laughing cow cheese. I can get in about 3/4 a wedge and I feel STUFFED. I just throw away the remainder. I am not eating them at mealtime yet, bc I am supposed to be on full liquids for a few more days, but I can tell it will be interesting on Tuesday when I switch! -
I just got sleeved and im already having a stall?!?
SFOTraveler replied to marisela87's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on Dec 18... so what is that....9-10 days ago? I base my loss on the number I weighed at the doc's office (not the hospital weight which was like 5lbs less) but as of last night I have lost 17lbs I believe. I know that I am not getting the requested 70 grams of Protein... I am more at like 50-60, which I am curious to see if this is going to be a problem. I am still on liquids though so this all may change once I am challenged to eat properly, although I am so paranoid of tearing my incision that it is keeping me on the straight and narrow! haha Hopefully the scale will start moving again very soon for you! Also, are you incorporating exercise? From what I hear it is SUPER important! -
I don't feel that different...
SFOTraveler replied to fullhandsfullheart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I could have written your original post! I was sleeved 12/28 and am going through the same thing! -
Pain when sipping......
SFOTraveler replied to Firefly2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That was my experience the first 2 days but it got a LOT better. I think mine was just a very swollen food channel. Is it the same with warm beverages? -
Sugar Free Carnation Instant Breakfast?
SFOTraveler replied to Deedle Dee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How many carbs does it have? I am going to venture out tomorrow to check it out. MY husband LOVES the regular carnation instant breakfast so he was super excited when he saw that I had jotted a note on the pad by our computer about the SF kind! haha -
Surgery in 2 days
SFOTraveler replied to FuriosMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think everyone's experience is different but mine went like this: check in to pre-op, fill out forms, meet with bariatric lady from the hospital get in gown and wait a LONG time bc surgeon was running late. I got my IV about an hour or 2 before surgery. About 10 mins before surgery both the PA of the surgeon, the anasthesiologist, and RN operating room manager guy came out to say hello. I got up and peed as instructed, and had to walk the 2 minutes to the OR all by myself and climb on the table all by myself (SCARY!!!). Then in 2 mins I was out and I remember waking in recovery and the 2 nurses were kind of goobs, I can't remember what they were discussing but it was silly. Then I went to my room and learned the joy of the morphine pump : ) My experience was somewhat rare as I didn't have a catheter, or drains, or anything like that which I am extremely grateful for! -
Mushies already? (1 wk post op)
SFOTraveler replied to fullhandsfullheart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am supposed to be on liquids for 2 weeks, but they were giving me Jello in the hospital, so I am not sure how that is a liquid other than it melts in the mouth? I did have about a tbsp of sugar free pudding this morning to take my prilosec and it was heaven. looking forward to tomorrow's dose also! I think that in general, all surgeons are different and just want us all to take it slow. My doc told me 2 weeks of liquid just to ensure adequate healing, and I am all about not having pain so I have been really good! -
Need Help with Soda Addiction
SFOTraveler replied to lkcraig316's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I guess I am really lucky because my doc didn't ask me to cut out caffeine completely before surgery. After surgery is a whole nother story! I was a Diet Pepsi ADDICT. As in 44-64 oz a day, EASY! I had surgery on the 28th of this month and I swear i thought diet soda counted as a clear liquid for my original surgeon for pre-surgery.... so on the 26th I basically lived on Diet Pepsi! Thank goodness I got my last hurrah in!!! haha. The next day I spoke to the NUT and she informed me that no, diet pepsi isn't a clear liquid. SO SAD : ( Anyhow, after surgery, I can barely get non-fizzy liquids down so I cannot even imagine trying to drink a diet pepsi. I am sure this will change with time, but my surgeon also told me that the carbonation has the potential to stretch out my pouch and I didn't pay thousands of dollars to sabotage myself! I am 99% sure your soda addiction will change after surgery .... there are too many other things you need to make sure you get in. No room left for Coke! -

Dr Cirange patients?
SFOTraveler replied to Ladybug_70's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was sleeved by him on 12/28. So far I can barely get down liquids so I am not concerned w food. For the bigger capsule he gave us, do you sprinkle it on applesauce before eating???? Have you contacted his office since surgery? p.s. are you located in the city? -
Wondering how long it takes for me to feel "normal" again? I feel like a hot burping mess these days!

My husband bought 2 large Smart Water bottles and that is supposed to be my daily goal. I have had about 1 today. Working on the second. I can't imagine being able to consume that much water when I take 1 small sip and feel all of the gas bubble right back up. Someone please tell me this gets easier!!

Today I will be sleeved at 3:30pm PST. It feels so surreal! I have been waiting for 9 months for this day... can't believe it is here. Catch you all on the flipside!

Any December Sleevers?
SFOTraveler replied to weightnomore's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lila, I am now getting sleeved by Cirangle on Tuesday. How has your recovery been??? -
I switched surgeons late in the game but my first surgeon had 1 day of clear liquids and a colyte cleanse the night before (OMG SCARY!!!) and then my current surgeon has a 3 day clear liquid diet. I did crack and eat 1 popcorn kernel at the movies. Literally 1. Hoping it digests in time for surgery on Tuesday at 4pm : ) I personally don't see why they'd make you do it for 2 wks as my surgeon explaine that he just wants it for 3 days to make sure the stomach is empty prior to surgery.

Ten weeks out - not as easy as I thought...
SFOTraveler replied to TwoStepsBack's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would say try to add some weight traning and WATER!!! Not flavored drinks, coffee, tea, etc. Just water! And I too have heard that sometimes you need to eat more to lose. Good luck and I hope you can kickstart things again! -
Wow we have a lot in common!!! I too am scheduled for surgery on Dec 15, and I too am getting really scared, and I too have a toddler at home! 2 to be exact. But everyone I talk to who has had it says that in the end it is ALL worth it. Prior to having a surgery date I was hoping and praying so badly that it would happen. Now that it is I am filled with anxiety about it. But, when I see the future, I am SO excited! Stay positive, and yay! We are surgery bday buddies : )
