  1. I am almost 6 months out. For the last 2 months, I have been losing so much hair. I have to admit, I have totally flaked out on drinking my Protein and taking my Vitamins, so I know that's real bad. I have restarted the protein and vitamins. But... when will my hair start to grow back? Please give me some hope.
  2. I was 234 day of surgery, 11/8/2010. I am now 193. Size 18/20, now a 14. Had a 3 week long stall, but starting losing again slowly. I'm sure I would be losing more if I excercised, but I haven't been. Good luck.
  3. My surgery was on Nov. 8, 2010. I had to attend all kinds of classes prior to surgery to learn how to live with the sleeve. Although the classes were basically geared for the full bypass, I still feel like I'm getting away with murder. I can basically eat anything. I do take smaller bites, especially with red meat. But the chew, chew, chew thing just doesn't apply to me. I don't have to sip, sip, sip. My portions are a lot smaller, but I don't see all the drastic life style changes I was taught about. Is it just me?
  4. Before the surgery, I actually made chicken and beef broth and froze it. I knew when I got home I wasn't going to be cooking, so thawing it and heating it up a little bit at a time was a huge help.
  5. I am at my 9 week mark. I have only lost 29 pounds. For 3 weeks straight, I lost nothing. I saw my doctor a few days ago, he said weight loss was slower with the sleeve than a full bypass, which didn't make me feel any better, I feel I'm behind. Hmmmm.
  6. My doctor had us have one, it gets taken out the day after surgery. It really wasn't as bad as I thought. The day of the surgery and the next day, I was so tired and sore, it was kind of a good thing.
  7. I am 2 weeks out and I cannot handle the protein drinks. I am drinking Premier Shakes from Costco. I tried the ISO PURE grape and Six Star Muscle from Wal Mart. Just the smell of any of one makes me gag. They don't make me sick or anything but just to get them down is horrible. Any ideas?

    Protein drinks gagging me

I have never heard that your body only absorbs a limited amount of protein. I agree with you Susanne, I don't think they would make a 36g powder if you are only going to absorb a small portion of it. As far as the Carnation Instant Breakfast, what kind of protein is in it? My doctor tells me that the Whey Isolate absorbs better and you get the best results with it. He also says, you cannot get the protein you need just from the foods you eat at this point, including milk, you really do need that protein substitute for a year after surgery. I guess everyone gets taught differently. But, all in all, the protein drinks still have a long way to go as far as taste go... lol

    Protein drinks gagging me

Thanks everyone! I actually did go get the Nectar Roadside Lemonade. I make a bottle of Special K Pink Lemonade Protein Drink and I use 6 oz of it to mix with a scoop of the Nectar. So far, so good.

4 weeks out need help with what I can eat....

I am basically eating everything mentioned, although, I was told by my Dr. that no matter how much protein I eat, still drink the protein drinks, 60g. The protein is absorbed differently and the whey is very important at this point. My Dr. also said I would have to continue the protein drinks for a year. I was told after 4 weeks, I can start adding ground meats, including beef, but always try it for the first time at home in case it doesn't agree with you.
  11. That's funny that you say that... I had one eyebrow hair that drove me out of my mind the whole time I was in the hospital lol As for the noisy hospital, it was noisy, but, they wake you up every hour for one reason or another, rest just wasn't something I got in the hospital, unfortunately.
  12. I brought cute night shirts, Chapstick, mp3 player, makeup, book... I didn't use any of them lol I didn't see anyone in the hospital ever change out of their hospital gown, there is too many tubes, shots, drainage bag, catheter bag. I was so tired, I never thought of listening to music let alone read. And... makeup, ya right lol My surgeon uses a blue die during the surgery, which, of course leaks down the side of your face, I was more concerned with washing my face to get the blue off then applying makeup. I suggest you keep it simple, stay in the gown, just bring real baggy clothes, with a very loose waist band, slippers to wear home, hairbrush and toothbrush and paste. Once I got home, not much changed for a few days other than I could shower. Stay comfy.
  13. I have been drinking the Premier Protein from Costco. I need to get in 60g of protein a day. I cannot drink another one of these shakes. Since the surgery, my gag reflexes have been on full force, including smells, yuk. My Dr. gave me the go ahead for bananas, now... I just need to GOOD vanilla, or unflavored, protein I can mix with yogurt and a banana. My problem is, I need a good protein powder, something that tastes good and doesn't smell. I know I'm looking for a miracle here, but I can't drink another chocolate shake again. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Can you Eat These Foods Eventually?

It's funny... I am 2 weeks out and that is all I've worried about. Please tell me I will be able to have chips and salsa again lol As hungry as I have been, I'm more worried about what I can eat and when.
  15. Hi, I had my surgery Nov 8th. I also am hungry all the time. When I drink my Protein, applesauce, broth... all that stuff, I never feel full. Like you, I also told my husband, I think they took out the wrong portion of my stomach, he left the hungry part! I am losing wait, but honestly, I'm counting the days I can have JUST ONE piece of sausage off of a pepperoni and sausage pizza lol Hang in there!
