    Too Tight or Just Right

    As with many of you, I have experienced all of these symptoms. I generally have a breakfast drink smoothie in the a.m. Some mornings, even that doesn't go down too easily. I really don't do well at lunch, as I feel frustrated that anything healthy would be too difficult to attempt. So I often have milk and carbohydrate. I start to get hungry by late afternoon, and snack sporadically. Dinner goes down more easily with small sips of wine. Interestingly, I often have more success when eating out. I think it may be that I'm more relaxed . At home, I'm still working on bite #3 while everyone else is finished and ready to leave the table. Having said that, I went out with friends on the weekend, and was only able to eat a few bites of my dinner. I had to go to the washroom a couple of times to bring up lots of phlegm and my dinner. In spite of that, I continued to have that uncomfortable tightness in my chest, which I find quite distracting. I often need to belch to relieve the pressure. The really interesting thing is that I have never had a fill. My surgeon's policy is to wait until 6 wks. post-op for the first fill. Since I was losing, he felt it was unnecessary. That was 2 yrs. ago. I did really well for the first 10 months, losing 75 lbs. Since then I'm sure that I have regained some (although I have never weighed myself), and I'm disheartened as I have about 100 left to lose.

    Saskatchewan Gal

    I am from Saskatoon, and had lap banding in Victoria with Dr. Amson. Thus far I have lost 70 lbs.:clap2: I just went back to Victoria recently, to let him know how I'm doing. I haven't had any fills, and have problems eating nutritionally sound meals due to the amount of constriction(especially in the first half of the day).Despite this I have no regrets. I still need to lose about 90 lbs more. Look forward to hearing from you.
  3. Hi! I've never posted before ,but am hoping that someone can give me some help. I've had my band since Oct.2,2006, and have lost 65 pounds thus far. I had my surgery in BC Canada. I followed all the instructions - I was actually stricter with myself than the surgeon told me to be. I started on fluids and slowly progressed to purees and then soft solids.I tried to remember to chew well and take small bites. Everything was great for the first four weeks. Then I started having problems with vomitting. I see that some on this site have referred to 'productive burps'. Most of the time I don't feel nauseated - I get a sharp esophageal-spasm type of pain, need to burp a lot, and ultimately need to go and make myself throw up. The odd thing about this is that things are always worse in the morning.It is to the point now that I have nothing but hot drinks or warm water until about 2 pm.(Cold seems to set off the spasm). Then, I try to have a bit of cheese and maybe a cracker. On a good day, I can eat soft solids for dinner. On a bad day, it all comes back. The really ironic thing is that chocolate goes down really well! It's important to mention that I have never had a fill- my surgeon usually waits until 6 weeks postop for this. So...any ideas? I'm getting tired of throwing up, I'm concerned about my nutrition and dehydration, and (believe it or not) I'm getting tired of chocolate!!:help:

    Is the lap band healthy?

    I only stopped following rules when I became desperate to get something down, Soon after I started solids at 5 weeks post-op, I started getting painful sticking and PBing. I soon discovered that junk food would go down when nothing else would. After finding this site, I discovered that many of my symptoms were common. I am tight in the mornings, and now only have a cup of hot milk .Some days even this won't go down, and I have to pour it out. Often I will have problems all day and ,therefore, leave most of my eating until evening. By then, my plans of eating healthily are difficult to follow. Also, it's difficult at the gym in the mornings when I have had little or no breakfast. I can't drink water while I exercise because cold water sticks in the morning. Because of these problems, I have lost 62 pounds in the first 3 months after my surgery. And...I have never had a fill. I am going back to see my surgeon in Feb. He has never had anyone with this problem before.Just my luck.:mad:
  5. I wish that I had found this site 2 months ago. I introduced myself 4 days ago with the problem of frequent daily 'vomitting'. I was given great advice about warm liquids and going back to 'mushies'. I have followed a routine similar to that outlined here. Consequently, I have not PB'd for 4 days.( I also have thought, in the past, that wine seems to help) My concern is ...have I already caused damage to my band after 2 months of making trips to the bathroom, several times a day,to bring up food? How can I tell?:omg:
