Is It Normal To Go Three Weeks With No Weight Loss?!
hopetolose replied to show1980's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would loose in streaks. I would get a fill and then loose a good 5 to 6 lbs and then it would stall for a few weeks and then I would loose a couple of more really slowly and then I would be ready for a fill again. I would just keep up with keeping your calories at around 1200 and switch up your exercise a little if you want to. I would go in every 6 weeks for a fill no matter what. I would get just a little booster. When I got down to about 20 lbs to go, I got fills every two or three months. I havent had a fill since feburary. -
Thats what I was thinking. Is it weird to be freaked out of losing more weight? At the beginning I was just hoping to lose some weight, not expecting to maybe be a size 8 one day!! Ill just let it play itself out and see what happens

What Would You Do If Something Happened To Your Band?
hopetolose replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a question... If you revise to a sleeve and are at goal how does that affect more weight loss? Dont you tend to lose faster with a sleeve? This might be a question for Jean, as she is just about to revise.. And I think she was at goal unless she has gained a little while waiting... I think I would revise. I would like to think I have changed, but I still rely on my band alot to keep me in check. -
How Important Is Exercise?
hopetolose replied to supportRO's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am about 8 lbs from goal, and sadly I am guilty of not exercising. It can be done, but I wish I had more time to exercise. I run a daycare center with 80 kids and it is dificultvto find the time. I do however put about 10,000 to 15,000 steps on pedometrer a day just by doing my normal daily axtivities. My doctor just told me at my year that he would like to see those last 8 come off with exercise. we will see... -
ok, question!! What is considered a veteran? I just passed my year mark and I consider myself a veteren in some cases but I would think I would need to maintain for awhile before I would consider myself a true veteren Maybe next year after my weigh in I will be a true veteren.. lol

I just went for my one year appt and discussed this with my doctor. My BMI is 26 right now and im at 170. His original goal was 160 and I would be at normal BMI at 164. But he said that I didnt need to lose anymore, but that if I did, he wanted me to lose it with exercise and not dieting. I admitted I was not being the best at exercising in the past couple of months. Put I find myself in a pickle because I do not want to get an unfil and I cant eat more than I do right now. So im sure I will lose a little bit more. Im finnaly really good with this fill, just got it to the perfect spot... Most everyone is saying I should stop as well. It is a mind trip for sure. once obese and now normal. once cant stop gaining and now cant stop losing. WEIRD!!!

Reading About Too Many Band Removals???
hopetolose replied to JennyBee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There has been alot lately, I agree. Seems like it goes in streaks. I read them, but I dont tend to worry about things until I have to anyway. The craziest I heard was that over half of lapbanders have a slip and die from it. I think they would have stats on that one. -
So far so good for me!!! I have for the most part figured out what I can and cannot eat. I cheat, but I do so sensibly. I cannot and will not eat a whole bag of Cookies, but I can have one. I know that if I have more than one, I will feel it. I know that if I eat more than a cup 1/2 of food I will feel it. If I dont chew alot, I will feel it. Simple!!!! There have been an awful lot of non sensible things on here thats been more than usual. No wonder there are some that are getting scared off. I dont know if its the instructions that are inadequate or if its just people being unrealistic or they need more assistance with the phsycholical part of it more. I wish everyone the best! b52 u make me smile !!

If You Could Really Turn Back Time, Would You Get Banded Again??
hopetolose replied to txdee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, only I would have done it sooner. -
Well, its been one year since my surgery and I feel great! I am not at goal yet, but only about 9 lbs to go. So that is not to bad... I go into my one year appointment on the 25th and i was wondering what will happen at that appointment. I am hoping that he will do some kind of xray or something to check on how my band is doing in there. Is this typical for the year appointment? I am hoping that he will be pleased with my weight loss. My year went by so fast. I lost most of the weight in the first 4 months or so and the last 6 months I have only lost about 24 lbs or so. I kinda go in streaks where I try and watch more of what I am eating to get down a couple of pounds here and there. But for the most part I just eat little meals all day long every three or four hours. I have not been very good about exercising in the past couple of months but I am very active all day long and get over 12,000 steps in just by running around everywhere. I am confident that I will eventually get rid of these last 9 pounds, but for the most part am not in to big of a rush to get there. I am in a size 10, which is what my personal goal was to be in. Some are a little on the tight side, so I would like to lose a little more so that they fit a little better. I am so happy that I did this. Sometimes it seems surreal that just a year ago, I was 70 lbs heavier and felt so yucky. I can walk up the stairs now without my ankles and knees hurting (sometimes crawling up the stairs to get to bed at night). Its funny the different reactions that I get from people now. People actually acknowledge me instead of looking past me or thru me. I wish everyone that is just starting out the best of luck and to stick with it and see where you can be in one years time. You may not be a your goal weight, but you will feel so much better with whatever you can take off, trust me. I felt better with each 10 lbs that came off. When I got to 200, I was like, I could stop here and be happy. At 190, I was like, ok, if I didnt lose anymore, I would be ok with that. At 180, I was like, this is it, I probably wont lose anymore, but I feel so good, that is ok. Now, at 169, I feel awesome, but now I know I can continue if I want to and I will more than likely lose more if I want to. Thanks for everyone's support throughout the year. It is greatly appreciated!!!!

Stuck At The Same Weight Since Feb.
hopetolose replied to I love lucy lover's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I lost most of my weight in the first 4 months as well. Over the last 6 months, I have only lost a little over 20 lbs. I will plateau for a month or so and then lose a couple of pounds and then plateau again. There was a couple of months, where there was nothing. I thought for sure that was going to be my weight forever, but eventually it goes down if you stick with it. Changing things up might help as well. Good luck, keep up the good work. -

Weight Watchers Points
hopetolose replied to jackie102671's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I joined the online one to see if would me with ?y last few pounds. My points value is at 26 and most days I can hardly get to that mark. And thats throwing in a treat too. It maybe hard to do 33 once your are at full retriction.. -
My port is just to the left of my belly button. It use to give me a hard time for awhile when i had to wear belts to keep my pants up and some pants bothered it as well. But now it seems to have settled in a little more and doesnt bother me as much. I am wearing pants that are more below my waist. It bothered me alot when I was working out more before christmas. Since I have been slacking alot lately, I dont even notice it anymore. When I first got banded, one of my smaller scars which was right at my bra line hurt like heck. That went away after the first couple of months, thank goodness. Maybe try and get a different bra. One that lifts up a little more?? I know with this weight loss and my age I am not as perky as I once was. Good luck!

Question For Those That Have Reached Goal Weight Or Close To It.
hopetolose replied to Toddy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am about 9 lbs from goal and I go in for my 1 year at the end of the month. I guess I will find out then how often he will see me after that. For now, I go in every couple of months for a tweek with my fills. I think that they want to see you at least every year to check out everything, which is good. I think that you can keep this thing for awhile if you take care of it. Not over eating, not going very long with an overfill and trying not to get the stomach flu seems to be the key elements of keeping it in good shape. -
You should be proud!. congrats to you!!

I Am Having A Hard Time Trying To Decide Lapband Or Sleeve?
hopetolose replied to JulieC74's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
brooklynqueen, there are several people on this site alone that have lost over 100 lbs with the band. The band is only as good as you make it be. Im not saying there are not complications that are beyond some peoples control, but they are few and far between. The band will work if you do the right things to support it. I think the only reason that the statistics are lower with weight loss with the band is because people dont use it right. -
I Am Having A Hard Time Trying To Decide Lapband Or Sleeve?
hopetolose replied to JulieC74's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
No not everyone needs to see a shrink after their surgery. That will depend on on your relationship with food. In my case I needed to get away from fast food and the band helped me with that and much more. I have lost 90% of my excess weight. My shrink visit only took 1/2 hour, she said I was a good to go and sent me on my way.
