  1. Oh my, I will have to try this. I was just banded on Thurday and my chest is hurting so bad from the gas. I think I would feel ok, if it wasnt for that. Trying not to take the pain medicine today and only tylonol. The other stuff just makes me drowsy and have blurried vision. thanks for suggestion!
  2. I was just banded on Thursday. Thought I was going to have to stay the night, because I was having such a hard time waking up from anstesia and then I didnt ask for pain medicine when I should have and had a little panic attack when I started hurting alot. Yesterday was pretty painful as well. Mostly in my chest like I had to burp, but can't. So I guess it isnt better if you burp or not. I went for two little walks yesterday just down the block. That seemed to have helped. I hope you are feeling better soon.
  3. Just wondering if we can have hot & spicy soup or egg drop soup on the liquid diet? As long as we only eat the broth part is that OK? The chicken broth might get kinda old after a few days

    Feel like crap

I felt the same way. Stopped Diet Soda on Saturday and had a headache for three straight days. Today is the first day that it hasnt hurt. It was awful. Tomorrow is my clear liquid diet and then nothing after that until surgery. Had my last meal tonight. toast, eggs and hashbrowns. So badddd.!
  5. So my big day is so very soon. I am excited but not looking forward to the recovery. I am not the type of person that can lay around, so I need to be careful not to do to much. I already have too much scheduled for this weekend. I have a crop nite to go to for my scrapbooking club (which I need to go to because I get a free scrapbook this month) lol. I also have a wedding shower to go to for one of my employees. And then her wedding the week after. So hopefully I can get at least hour into each of those. We will see. I do have a question. Can you do cream Soups on the liquid diet (like tomato or pea)? Or should those be saved for the mushies stage? I guess I can ask in the hospital on thursday, but am trying to get everything I need before hand. Wish me luck!!
  6. So I have read enough posts of people who have second thoughts. Until now I thought they were crazy because I was so excited to get the lap band. I am not nervous about the surgery. Seems relatively easy procedure. I am self pay and having second thoughts I shelling out 10,000 for the surgery. God I hope this works. The one thing that I am concerned about is that I tend to be a grazer. I am not a volume eater or a late night eater. I just eat through out the day without thinking about it. So I am wondering how this is going to help me. I am definately going to have to change the that aspect of my life and only eat every three hours and not graze. God I hope this works. I have my pre-op appt tomorrow and have to give them the money.

    Second guessing myself!!

I just posted my second thoughts post on Tuesday. So I am right there with you. Mine was mostly about the money part as I am a self pay. But I went to the pre-op appt and gave them my money and am ready for my new life to begin in one week from today. My surgery is at 10:30, so I will be waking up from my sleep right about now. Strange thought.... To be silly, I went out and bought a cute little pair of capri's (from walmart) just one size down to get myself motivated a little. I am hoping to be in those by June 1. And then to watch them get bagier and bagier though out the summer. And maybe by the end of middle to end of summer I will be in a new size altogether. Not sure were my sizes are going to fall now because it has been 20 years since I have been in smaller sizes (less than 14). My body might have changed in my old age and is totally different now. I am going to be 45 this year, so cant see myself getting any body work done at this point, so everything is going to have to be good enough for me when the weight comes off.
  8. OK! I did it. I had my pre-op appt at the hospital yesterday and handed over a whole bunch of money. So there is no backing out now. One week from today I will be banded and starting my new journey. I really can't wait. I think I just got a little freaked out by actually handing over that much money at once. Kinda scary. But I know it will be worth it. To Celebrate I bought a cute pair of capri's at walmart that were on sale a size smaller than I am now. Didnt want to go to overboard and go a couple of sizes. That way I will probably be able to wear them most of the summer (maybe not ). If not, then they were only $10. Thanks for all the encouraging words, I needed them. The good news is that I was down 6 pounds from my first weigh in there. So maybe I can drop some more before next week before they fill me up with all those lovely fluids.
  9. When I was reading over my notebook that I got from my Pre-op Surgery Class, it says that I will only be on liquids for the first week after surgery and then to limited mushies for the second week and then soft foods on the 3rd week and then regular foods starting the 4th week. Does that sound right? I have been reading other posts and websites and it seems like a lot of people are doing shakes for the 1st three weeks and dont get to solids until week 6. Do you think it is more beneficial loss wise to do the shakes for longer? I wont get a fill until week 6. Will I be able to lose doing it my doctor's way?
  10. So my doctor did not say anything about starting a diet, but in the paperwork it said that you should consider start to limit things and practice chewing your food good to get ready for after the band. I really wanted to get a head start and do a two week diet anyway so that it would be less to lose afterwards. So I was going to start yesterday and did really good until hubby wanted to go see a movie. Then I ate popcorn. Uggg. And then my son's birthday is today and he wants ribs. Uggg. So now I will start tomorrow and stick with it until the surgery. So that will be 18 days. That should get 10-14 lbs. Hopefully! I know that there will be special occations (birthdays, holidays) that we have to contend with, but why can't I make it past the popcorn at a movie. My only hope is that my band does not like popcorn at all and I won't be able to eat it. I its a no-no, but I hope the band will tell me so. By the way, do you put your weight from your scale or your doctor's scale? I am always about 4-5 lbs off from them. I dont know what to put on my ticker. I will only go to the doctor every 3 months after my two week appt, unless they weigh me at the fills, which are every 6 weeks I think.

    HELLO FROM COLORADO

Hello Smile, I am also from Colorado and am having my LapBand from Dr. Snyder as well on the 14th of April. How was your hospital stay? Did you need to stay overnight? They either have me scheduled at 10 or 12. I have to call next week to get the correct time. So just wondering how long total you were there? Hang in there.
  12. I have told DH and a couple of people from work. I am going to wait until afterwards to tell the rest of my family because they will all be concerned and bug me so I will just let them know after it is done. The problem I am having is that I really dont want anyone to be there with me when I have it done. My husband and I will just bug each other because he will feel helpless and I will feel like I can do everything myself and shoo him away. When I am sick or something, I just want to be by myself and get over what ever I have. I think this will be the same thing. I had to go to the emergency room about a month ago for phenoia (sp) and drove myself there and left specific instructions with my co-workers not to call my husband or mother. Uggg they both showed up within the hour. I told them I was fine and to leave. All they are going to do is watch me suffer and I don't want that. Drives me crazy.... Weird I know. I wonder what the doctor will say when I tell him I am not going to have anyone there. Probably wont like it.

    I need to get serious

Check Yes, I know what you are saying. What I really want to do is start cutting out some of the bad things that I eat and drink. I am a really bad Diet Coke drinker (like always have one in my hand like a cigarete type person). I know that I am not going to be able to have that afterwards so I am starting to cut that out now. I am down to one the morning and one in the afternoon. Starting next week I think I will cut to decaffinated ones and then the week after that cut out all together. I WILL SO MISS MY DIET COKE The other thing that I need to get out of my system is fast food. I;ve decided I am a convenience eater. I will always eat what I can get and eat while I am doing other things. These are the two things that I am trying to work on before the surgery so it isnt such a shocker when I have the band. I think the band will help me with eating less, I just want to get used the good stuff that I need to eat to make it work. And yes, I am anxious to get going on my weight loss. I will not lie about that. You call it Bandster Hell, was it worth selling your soul (or I should say your stomach) for? LOL
  15. I go for my doctor consult on the 23rd. I am 5'8" and 236 lbs, and have a bmi of 35.9. I am wondering if they are going to let me get the lap band. I am going thru self pay because I dont want to wait for insurance and they might not cover it anyway. The only things that I have wrong is back pain and bad pain in my joints in knees and ankles. I am wondering if I need to have some other medical problem if I am not over 40 bmi. ?? Has anyone else been kind of in my shoes as far as lower bmi and no co-morb stuff going on?

Will they let me get the lap band

Kimberly, I am so excited for you. Do you have a date yet? I am doing good. My date is 4/14. I started a pre-op diet and have lost 4 lbs so far since saturday. Just kinda doing a low-carb and shake mixure type thing just to get used to eating less. Have the timer on my phone set so that I eat every 3 hours or so. That seems to be helping alot. Please let know all the details of your surgery. Yaaayyy Us....
  17. Ohhh, stop please. I am so jelous. I only have 16 more days til band day and I wish it was tomorrow. Congrats!!!!
  18. me again I have a relatively low BMI. around 36. But I could care less what anyone says about me doing it or why I am doing it. My doctor said I would do well with it and it is my body and I am going to rock it (soon). She's just jelous because your's was cheaper and less painful. LOL JK if you are a bypass person. I really dont mean any harm.
  19. I dont want to make anyone mad, but with the bypass you tend to lose automatically because they have taken away part of your stomach and you really cant eat that much. I know that it stretches eventually after a couple of years and then you will eat more. But you lose alot upfront. With the band you have to work alot harder because all you have is restriction, but there are tons of foods that will go through that and make it to your other part of the stomach. You have to work alot harder with the band as far as willpower. If you are obese and have trouble getting the weight off then anything you can do to take care of it and KEEP it off is a good thing, no mater if you are 30 bmi or 80 bmi. That is why they created the band isnt it, as an alternative to bybass for people that need help that may not have a really high bmi. That is why they lowered the threshold to 30 bmi per the FDA. Anyway, just ignore her. Either one that a person chooses is a choice that they make to make their life healthier. Keep up the good work.
  20. Wow, great! Both you guys did wonderful. I hope to do as well then. Thanks.
  21. I was just curious. It seems that people lose weight in their faces first. I wonder how much your face weighs. Also was wondering how much my "girls" weigh. They seem to weigh a ton because my back always hurts.

BMI of 37 but no morbidities = no coverage?

Unfortunately, I was the same way. need to lose about 80 lbs. I am going with self pay as well. I have joint pain, but wasnt sure if that would fly or not and didnt want to do the waiting game any longer. I am 44 and need to get this going to start living a new life while I can enjoy it Good luck! its a bummer when they say your not heavy enough (how stupid is that)
  23. I know it works because a lady I know has lost 75 pounds in the last year that had the surgery through the same doctor. I should speak with her to see how she did in the first couple of weeks. Sometimes these forums are so confusing when you get so many people doing so many different things.
