Unsatisfied with the Lap Band surgery!!!!
screeden replied to poopgirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am so sorry that you have had a bad experience with the band. Sounds like you need to get a whole new doctor's practice. wow! no one should have to deal with all that drama. My fills take less than a minute also, the rest of the time we discuss my diet, how I am feeling. my fills are done with my surgeon's nurse practioner, who has been doing this for a long time. my port is deep, but she finds it with no issue and after a fill, has me drink water to make sure it goes down fine, with no pooling in my throat. they do fills slowly so you not have to make trips for fills/unfills. I with i could give you a doctor to go to,but don't know anyone out your way. I wish you the best and hope things get better for you. -
100+ Positive Reasons to get the Lapband and outcomes
screeden replied to SkinnyMiniMe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
not feeding my face so much that i want to barf afterwards. will not miss that thanksgiving full feeling at all. fitting into jeans i have not worn in 5 years. being at my pre-pregnancy weight again and going down. -
I had H. pylori too, but long ago and did not have to get a retest after taking the meds. i am assuming that they worked for me as i no longer had the issues i had before i took them. yes they suck taking them, cause there is so damn many of them and for 2 weeks. the only side effect i had was i had the taste of licking a metal can in my mouth all the time. i had horrible acid reflux when i was diagnosed and after the meds, i no longer had the reflux and stopped my nexium. they are probaly making you retest since you are having the surgery soon.

Did anyone get their gallbladder removed before surgery?
screeden replied to Princess Jaz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine removed 9 yrs ago, i was down 3 days, but off work a week. i had a harder time recovering from the gallbladder surgery than the lapband. -
they will just have to get over it and you don't owe anyone anything. I know it is an insult to Italians if you turn down food, my step grandma was full blood Italian and I sweari gained 10 lbs every tim I stayed the weekend at her house. that is how they are, you won't change them. they will just have to get over it. eat what you can and take the rest home.

FRUSTRATED AND UPSET!!!!
screeden replied to NY Bandster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Up your protein. I have found that when i eat more protein, i start losing lbs again. you are still healing. you don't want them filling you so fast, you will have restriction soon, usually St 4 or 5 fills. everyone is different. I am 3/4 filled. doctor won't do any more for awhile, I have good restriction. try not to focus on the scale. focus on your clothes and how they fit. you are doing fine. it is a learning process. -
for me, i am on my 5th fill now and think i am in the green zone. i am right on track and losing 1 lb a week. and that is okay with me. for breakfast, i am not hungry when i get up, so i have a protein shake to help get in my proteins. then mid morning, when i do get hungry, i have either eggs with some cheese and sliced tomatos or other veggies, or i will have a greek yogurt or oatmeal. for lunch i usually have grilled chicken, or tuna or egg salad wraps on lettuce. i always make sure i get protein in with each meal. i am able to eat pasta, rice and whole wheat bread with no issues. make sure you chew your food up well. take it slow and you will do fine. i like the EAS protein powder best, got it at walmart. you can get almost 1/2 your daily protein in that shake in the morning. at dinner time, i eat protein, some veggies and some starch. i am amazed that i am not hungry for 5 hours after eating a meal. i try not to snack in between meals, but during that time of the month, i am snacky like mad. LOL lapband.com has alot of recipes for all stages. wishing you the best in your journey

Fighting the Negativity Makers...
screeden replied to SkinnyMiniMe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ignore the negative nellies. they are out there, but i have found those who are the most negative either know nothing about the band or know someone who had a problem. it is a tool, not an instant fix. i thought about it for me for over a year and decided this is what i need to do for me and i don't regret it one bit. yes it does suck sometimes to not eat a big fat deep dish slice of pizza, but it is not good for me and it is what helped get me to where i was in the first place. i am down 40 lbs in 6 months and i am right on track. i am happy, feel good and would do it again. it is a lifestyle change and you have to work at it. i say poopoo on the ney sayers. don't worry about them, only worry about you. -
Pizza??? (no crust)
screeden replied to HeavyDutyQ-tee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i had pizza for the first time this past friday. i tried it in the past and it didnt agree with me. i made sure i ate very thin crust, cheese only and just one piece. had a salad with it. you just have to be careful. since you are newly banded, i would be very careful cause of the cheese. -
i can eat cake as long as i take small bites and it is with ice cream. i am fine with cheesecakes and mousse. just be careful what you choose and eat tiny bites. i can eat whole wheat breads with no issues.
-
why does Italian food have to go? i had Chicken al fredo last night, homemade, lowfat and had not one issue. you just have to be careful about what you eat and chew your food up really well.
-
wow, that is fast. i thought mine was fast, one month total from seminar to consultation to approval to surgery. sending you well wishes for after your surgery. congrats on your new journey to your new life.

I cheated and believe me i cheated good. pigged out at a cookout. LOL you will be fine and don't be too hard on yourself if you cheat. just pick yourself back up and move on.

Tomorrow is the last day of post op diet, any suggestions on creamy foods other than oatmeal?
screeden replied to sheriah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i ate alot of soups, cream of potato and tomato soup. i still love soup. cottage cheese and mashed potatoes are good too. if you eat scrambled eggs, make sure they are not too done and add cheese to them to make them softer. -

Post ops day three question
screeden replied to Dmorris2321's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i did gatorade and sucked on popsicles, i too was not hungry until 1 week after surgery, but i knew i had to keep hydrated. keep drinking the protein drinks, sip on them, and keep drinking the water. and try a heating pad on your shoulder for the gas pains. also Mylanta chewables are wonderful for the gas. -

Newbie to board ~ Banded yesterday
screeden replied to Christina42's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
it is important to drink the protein drinks and water to stay hydrated. i know you feel, i was going bonkers the next day after surgery. heck, two days post op i was up and cooking a big breakfast for everyone. LOL my family came to visit after my surgery and stayed the weekend. i felt good by day 3 and by day 5 i was out walking, not really far, but a few blocks at a time. just keep drinking fluids and after about a week you will start to get hungry again. your body is recovering, so try to take it easy. -
I have a cough, will they cancel my surgery tomorrow?
screeden replied to sheriah's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on the tail end of a cold with a slight cough and I still had mine. I would get some cough syrup to help with the cough. don't suppress it completely, coughing helps keep the airways popped open. use a pillow over your incisions to help brace the cough. -
Any good tips to stop nightime "binging"?
screeden replied to quileness's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
when I get snacky at night, I eat yogurt and that helps a lot with the cravings. I get the dessert type yogurts, feels like I am cheating but I am not. -
throat gurgleing and noises
screeden replied to kloee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
lol, i gurgle at times too. my husband was looking at me all crazy when he finally heard it one night, he thought something was wrong with me. I notice it more if I did not chew my food up really well. -
wishing you well. the pre op diet can be done, I struggled a couple of days, cheated, but got right back on diet. lost 6 lbs with it in 2 weeks before surgery.

I am scared I am making a mistake
screeden replied to Kellysue's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the band is about portion control. it is a tool to help you eat less and believe me, when you have a fill and you eat crap, you will not like the feeling and the end result. it is not just about portion control, it is about what you eat too. i too think you need to do more research before making your decision. my friend's husband has had it 2 years and does not eat like he should, meaning he eats crap all the time yet wonders why he has not lost any weight. hello! it is not an instant fix. if we could all just eat less and eat healthy all the time, then there would be no reason for the band. but that is not the case, we all got here by eating way too much and eating crap. -
Will this nightmare ever end?
screeden replied to okiekatt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
