stool softeners
screeden replied to oldiebutgoodie2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
80 grams of protein, wow! that is alot. my doctor says 60 grams of protein a day. try the metamucil or benefiber. you can mix it in with food or liquid. adding fiber to your diet is not going to hurt you. i have not had constipation issues, but i drink alot of water every day too. -
How long should I expect to be off??
screeden replied to jsea's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my doctor told me to take off for 1 week. yes i was feeling good after a few days, but took the full 7 days as i am on my feet at my job and walk all over the place and did not want to over do it. -
i think you need another fill. i did not get any restriction until my 3rd fill. i ate and ate with the 1st and 2nd, but the 3rd is where i saw a difference. every day is different for me. some days i can eat more, other days i eat very little. our bodies fluctuate daily with swelling too.

I am so sorry to hear about your mom! I am a respiratory therapist and know all to well about people who have COPD and being on a vent or cpap machine. Aspiration Pneumonia is horrible in itself and can happen to anyone, with or without a band. Thank you for sharing your story and I wish you the best. Again, sorry for your loss!

pain on right side
screeden replied to hott_chocolate42's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
that is where your gallbladder is located. call your surgeon and let them know you are having some pain there. i had mine out a long time ago, way before my band, so i don't know if there is some sort of correlation to the gallbladder and the band. -
it sounds like you are still swollen from surgery since you are bringing stuff back up. try drinking just warm thinned broth to see if that helps. also, the gas will go away eventually. try using a heating pad on your shoulders and get some chewable mylanta tabs, they help alot with the gas. It will get better, and you can call your surgeon too. the itching around the incisions is normal. i put some neosporin around the incisions after i showered, not on them, but around them.

Monthly friend does not help any but tomorrow is a new day and i will be getting back on the wagon and using my tool to get to where i need to be. good luck to you you can do this!! -
Don't Say "You Can't" to People
screeden replied to APRPro4U's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
You can have the gastic bypass redone or undone. It is not common, but can happen. I have had two friends who had one of these done. One had the bypass many years ago, she lost a ton of weight and then gained it back in 2 yrs. and recently had it redone. Another friend had it done, and decided that she wanted it undone, and guess what it is reversable, but will most likely have serious complications. It is not possible for everyone to get it reversed, does not happen that often, but it can be done for some. -
It will get better. I know the gas is the worst. I kept chewing the Mylanta chewables every 4 hours and walking around. Do Not drink anything through a straw, makes the gas worse. I learned that the hard way!

Wow! You have a lot going on it sounds like. I too was scared when i was told Yes you are covered to have the surgery. I freaked out, started crying and almost backed out. Then I looked at my two boys who are 4 and 5 and thought if I don't do this now, then I might not be here to watch them grow up. I want to have a healthy, long life and I decided that I had to do this for me and for my family. You are the only one who can decide what is best for you. Do this, write down the pros and cons of having the surgery and not having the surgery and go from there. Good luck! What ever you decide will be the right decision for you!

I Feel Like I can Eat Too Much - No Fill Yet
screeden replied to healthychange's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is normal. you are just ready for a fill! i did the same thing. after a couple of weeks, when i was back on solids, i was surprised at how much i could eat again. but found that it was normal and i would eat less after i had a fill and i did. i am on my 3rd fill, will have 4th this week and my appetite was cut dramatically after the fills. You are doing fine. your body is adjusting. just don't over do it and eat like you used to. -
Next time you have chipolte, get the bowl. the tortilla probaly caused the issue. that being said, I am not sure you were stuck. I got stuck and I felt it in my throat. taking out just .5 cc will help a lot. listen to your surgeon and listen to your body. I have found that white bread and tortillas are a no no for me. I can eat whole wheat bread, but that is all. hope it gets better for you.

I think you need to find a new doctor. This one sounds like a jerk!

Does everyone really eat proteins first
screeden replied to NJGirl32's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, I do eat my proteins first. I don't eat as much when I do. -
I retain water right before and during my period. I limit my sodium intake during that time, drink tons of water, and I drink warm tea. that seems to help with the fluid retention. but I Also know when I am going to start. hope it gets better or you.

Had my Lap Band surgery yesterday
screeden replied to theodoru's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every day will get easier. Do not drink from a straw, that will make the gas worse. I learned that the hard way. I took pain Meda for a couple of days. Listen to the doctor instructions and do not eat regular food until you are supposed to. -
3 day post op question
screeden replied to bellybuster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would keep trying the protein, you need it. use just water or broth like the PP said. and drink low, not through a straw, it will make the gas worse. -
They give a blood thinner before surgery to prevent blood clots, and since you are prone to bruising anyways, and eating slot less foods now, will bruise easier. Make sure you eat plenty of protein and iron rich foods and it should help. Also take a multiple vitamin every day. I use flu stone chewable vitamins.

OMG!! I'm so nervous!
screeden replied to fourshepards's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Completely know how you feel. When I found out i was approved with my insurance, it became real to me that i was having it done, and i burst out crying, freaking out. My husband didn't know what to do with me, i was a mess. LOL but i talked to a friend of mine who had it done 2 years ago and she talked me down and i was fine. It just became a reality to me! I too was wondering, how i will change my way of eating, not being able to eat certain things. Yes it sucks not being able to eat a deep dish pizza slice, but i know the consequences and would rather not vomit than try to enjoy a piece of pizza. It is just not worth it! You will learn what you can and can't have. Everyone is different. I have no problem with corn, rice or popcorn, but know people who can't eat those things. You just have to think about what you are eating every time and make good choices or they come back to get you, literally
