    A little help

every doctor is different. you have not been banded yet have you? mine actually went fast, i was a fortunate one that my insurance did not cause any problems. I went to the seminar March 10th, met with the surgeon march 17th for consultation, and had my surgery April 21st. I do hope it goes fast for you

    Popcorn

I have not had any issues with popcorn, the only time i actually eat it is at the movies and that is a once a month thing. i am so glad that i can eat it, cause going to the movies is not the same without getting some popcorn. I just don't eat the whole bag anymore LOL I did wait to try for 2 months post op though. I can also eat corn and rice with no issues.

    Newly banded

Also, the first 2 weeks is called "bander's hell" and it is true to its name. Creamy soups never tasted so good until i was able to have them. Love me some mashed potatoes

    Newly banded

Congrats on your new journey. The gas pains will subside soon, i know they hurt. Try the Mylanta gas chewables, they really do help alot. Do Not drink through a straw, makes the gas worse, i found that out the hard way. Also concentrate on one week at a time. I do miss the deep dish pizza, fried foods, but i know that they are not good for me and are what got me to the point i was before the lapband. You have a new tool to help you, it won't do the work for you, you have to do the work too, through diet and exercise. It is like any other healthy diet, you don't eat right it is not going to work. And there are times it does not help anyone at all, and the bypass is the same way. You can do this! I choose the lapband because I did not want the complications that the bypass has and i want to be there for my kids and be healthy and live a long life. I am now down 32 lbs had it done 4 months ago and do not regret one thing about it!

    Worst Decision I ever made!

I am sorry that it has not done what you expected it to do. It does not always work out for people, and the bypass is the same way. But you have lost alot of weight it looks like. So it did help you lose. Hope things get better for you.

    changing doctors

If your cardiologist was concerned about approving you until further testing to determine the cause of what is going on with your heart, then maybe you should wait. Why did he approve you if he wants to run more tests and does not know if it is something to worry about or not? I would be putting the surgery off if it was me. But you are the only one who can decide that. Good luck to you!
  8. my surgeon's nurse told me that it takes about 2 months for the scale to "catch up" to the inches lost. so sometimes you will not see the scale move, but the inches are going away. i know it can be frustrating. i have not lost anything in the past 2 weeks, but my clothes are super loose. change up your workout routine, do something different with the workouts a couple of days a week to see if that helps. sometimes our muscles get "stagnant" with the same routine.
  9. Well, I had my first vomiting episode last night and it was awful. Went out to eat with family. I know I most likely ate too much, but for some dumb reason, I took a drink of water and it pooled immediately in my throat and off I ran to the bathroom, pushing a couple of people out of my way in the process , and puked up the water and some food, water came out of my nose too. felt like I could not catch my breath and then finally had it out. I felt so embarrassed about doing that in public. I went out outside to get some air. So today, I am just drinking hot liquids and staying away from food today!

    Band vs Bypass

I chose LB because I know it is reversible, I did not want to deal with the dumping syndrome bypass has, bypass has more complications, and most people who have bypass gain it all back.

    No Hunger After Surgery

I did not even want food for the first week. Even cooked a huge breakfast a few days after my surgery for my family and I didn't even care that I col not eat any of it. You will eventually get hungry, but make sure you are getting something in your stomach.

    Deli Meat

beef is harder to chew and pass through the band than chicken, fish or turkey. pork can be hard to pass also, unless it is super tender.
  15. unfortunately people do fall for this crap. very sad that people prey on others.

    Thanks, Everybody

I think we all get support out this site and give support too. I come here to give others advice, look to see if any one else is experiencing things I have experienced to make sure I am not "the only one". lol! Congrats on your success and weight loss! Keep up the great work!
  17. Well today is the start of your new journey and I wish you well. I had second thoughts when I was approved and scheduled. I freaked out! But, I had given myself over a year to do it on my own and had only lost 15 lbs. The night after I was scheduled, I looked at my two little boys sleeping and I wanted to watch them grow up, teach them healthy habits, and knew I had to do this not only for them, but for me also. And so far, I have no regrets. Wishing you a speedy recovery. I am a Respiratory Therapist, so I too make a horrible patient. I told the nurse to get the oxygen away from me, that I didn't need it and was showing her how an IS should be one. lol! I don't do well under anesthesia.
  18. I am tight for that day and sometimes the next day, but you should be able to drink water. if it pools in your throat, you are too tight. my surgeon's nurse asks every time if it went down okay. if it pools then she takes a little out and has me drink water again. see how you are tomorrow. if you are still having trouble, then I would call.

    TINY little cheat

Don't listen to anyone who has not weight problems or has never struggled with any weight issues. They have no clue what you are going through. I cheated on my pre-op and let me tell you, it was a huge cheat i went to a bbq for easter 4 days before and i pigged out. LOL! and guess what? i was just fine with my surgery. I lost 6 lbs anyways! Everyone is going to cheat at one time or another during this journey.
  20. That is so messed up! Wow! If they don't want to pay for it, why don't they just deny then. I have never heard of an insurance company trying to talk someone out of a surgery. that is not right at all! if they are trying to talk you out of it, then you most likely will be approved! Keep us posted.
  21. I have thrown up if i drink right after i eat if i am full. I can drink 30 minutes after i eat and i am fine. that sucks to wait an hour, the hardest thing to learn to stop doing i think. Write yourself a note for your pills to take before you eat. I don't know if that will help or not.

    Feel horribly guilty!!!

The first 2 weeks is called "banders hell". We all know how you feel and what you are going through. You do need to stick to the diet your doctor gave you. You are healing and will still be swollen. I know it is hard, but once it is over, it is over and you will be so happy to eat a solid food again.

To tell or not to tell

i didn't tell anyone except family at first. then alot of people at work noticed i had lost alot of weight and was asking. the only ones at work that know are on my shift at night and in my department. I to didn't want everyone "staring" at me thinking i took the easy way when in fact i had been trying on my own for years before i just did it. It is your choice if you want to tell anyone, and it is no one's business. I told people i work with as i work in Healthcare and if anything happens to me, they know i have a medical device implanted in me.

    Do I NEED a fill?

yes, you do need to get the fills. 4 wks after surgery, i was pretty much eating anything and everything. when i did get my fill, it was a huge STOP sign and i realized that i was eating way too much. i noticed a huge difference in my amounts i put on my plate and how much i actually ate. i stopped before i was full, i stopped when i was satisfied. the lapband is my tool to lose weight and if i don't work with it, then it was all for nothing. you have to eat right and exercise. the band just limits your amounts you can take it. you are doing fine and it is all normal how you are feeling.
  25. I did not get any restriction until my 3rd fill, but some people get it right away. It does feel great to not be starving all the time and to actually be satisfied when eating a small meal. We do only need a meal the size of our fist, yet we tend to eat 4 times that amount. LOL I love whole wheat bread and as long as i chew it up well and take little bites, i am fine with it. i am still working on not drinking with my meals, that is the hard one to break the habit. Sounds like you are getting some restriction and that is great. Good luck to you and your new journey
