First fill and off limit foods there after. HELP
screeden replied to Pink8671's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
everyone is different. i can eat rice, popcorn and corn with no issues. i also can eat whole wheat bread. i do know people who can't eat rice or corn or popcorn. i know i can eat more, i choose not too. i stop myself and am losing at a slower pace, but it is better it comes off slower. 1 to 2 lbs per week is what my doctor calls the sweet spot for restriction. -
Visit with Surgeon this Thursday!!!!
screeden replied to USAFwife2009's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hope your visit with the Surgeon went well today -
i don't have any issues now with straws, but the first few weeks they caused me alot of gas. now i can use them with no issues.

sounds like you are too tight. 7ml at your first fill, that is alot. there was probaly already some in there. i had 3ml's in mine when i got my first fill, then they added 2ml's, i chocked a little on the water, then they took out .5ml's and i was fine. i know i am not hungry at all in the mornings, so i drink a protein shake so i at least have something, and some protein. plus i seem to be tighter in the mornings. hope this helps

hotdogs are definitely not a good food this soon out. i am 4.5 months out now and can eat them, but only if they are diced up. my advice, small pieces, and chew, chew, chew. usually only takes one vomiting episode to learn. it will get better. mine was with fried chicken several weeks ago, still can't eat it yet

can we use cheaper protein powder?
screeden replied to Looseitbeth's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i don't see why not. it has 15 grams of protein, then when you add milk, that adds 8 grams, giving you 23 grams per serving. -
I hope to qualify for lap band
screeden replied to Lilyrose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had tried everything too and was just done trying it all. So I went to my first seminar to see about the lap band. I didn't feel comfortable with the surgeon's staff, so i decided to give myself a year to see if i could do it on my own. I joined a gym, watched what i ate and lost a whole 15 lbs in over a year. So i talked to a friend of mine who had it done 2 years previous and she told me to go to her surgeon, and i am so glad i did. i felt very comfortable with him and his staff, they were very informative, was not trying to "sell" me the band. I had borderline high blood pressure, had tried every stinking diet around, my dad has had 2 heart attacks, a stroke and is a diabetic. oh and my back hurt all the time. so that pretty much helped me qualify. I was 100 lbs over weight. Just go see what the doctor says. Worse they can tell you is no! good luck to you. -
it is completely normal to gain a few lbs when you begin eating solid foods again. your body is adjusting to everything, the band, the liquids, the mushy's and now solids. once you get your first fill, you will start dropping the weight. my doctor says the first 6 weeks are not about losing, it is about healing. good luck to you on your new journey.
-
sounds like you need to get another fill. i did not lose one lb for a month and it was really discouraging to me. i got my butt off the couch and started exercising again and have since dropped 5 lbs in a few weeks. yeah! it is normal to hit plateaus in any type of weigh loss diet. you just have to change things up and "start" again. wishing you luck !

congrats to you on your successful sugery. welcome to the next step to your new journey in your new life.

hello, welcome to the lbt community. congrats on your success so far. don't worry about if you gain some weight when you start eating solids again. you have not had a fill yet, but will soon. your body is adjusting to everything, the band, having just liquids and will have to adjust to solids again. just watch what you eat and don't over do it. -
yeah, drink the protein shakes, they have way more than slim fast.
-
you are way too tight. who told you to deal with it? you need to call your surgeon's office immediately. you should not have to suffer.
-
could be a little gas to from the broccoli. you will figure out what you can and can't eat. chicken and fish are the easiest things to eat.

i can eat it, i just make sure i limit the rice.

Liquid Diet Before Lap Band Surgery?
screeden replied to Tulip16's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
mine was a 2 week "fasting diet", which consisted of a slimfast in the morning, slimfast for lunch and a lean cuisine type meal for dinner. was allowed 2 fruits with shakes and 2 snacks of pudding or milk. the day before surgery, i was on a clear liquid diet. my surgeon says it is to shrink the liver some so easier access to the stomach. i lost 6 lbs on mine. -
you just need a fill. my doctor told me the first 4 weeks after surgery and before my first fill is not about losing weight, but about letting my body heal and to adjust to the band. i too was eating like before i had the band about 3 weeks out and once i got my fill, i noticed i was not eating as much. i did not get good restriction until my 4th fill. everyone is different. some get restriction immediately, some take a while. don't get discouraged. once you get a fill, you will start losing again. make sure you get your water in too.

2-days Post-Op and in pain
screeden replied to Lemise21's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
everyone is different and their pain tolerance is different too. i have a high threshold for pain, so i took my pain meds, otc ibuprofen for 2 days. the gas was the worst for me, took the Mylanta gas chewables for several days. did alot of walking around the house, used a heating pad on my shoulder for the pain. good luck to you, hope it gets better soon. -
I don't miss being hungry all the freaking time congrats to you keep up the good work.

OMG, I have been eating tomatoes every day the past 2 weeks. I have a huge garden and so many freaking tomatoes, but I love eating them and have been craving them like crazy. LOL! We planted 10 different kinds so we would have a huge variety of tomatoes. Anyways, i know they are good for me but wow, i am eating them alot. LOL
-
get some gas meds now! try the Mylanta chewables, they are wonderful! you should not have to suffer. yes the gas is awful, seemed to take forever to go away, i walked around alot and it does help.
-
hmmm, well i am not sure then. what kind of solids are you eating? stress and anxiety will do that to you also. hope it gets better for you soon.
-
i know it sucks, but think about it for a minute. you are eating super soft foods, no bulk in them at all, so yes they are going to come right back out. once you get the solids in, it will get better. you don't have dumping syndrome like those with the bypass do. they have it no matter what they eat. try softer solids and take it slow, chew everything up 20 times, i mean every bite 20 times. it does get better.

Hello -- new to the website
screeden replied to JoJo22's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
go to lapband.com and register. there you can find all kinds of recipes for all the stages. different ways to make the broth taste good. i know it sucks, that is why the first 2 weeks are banders hell. once you get to the mushy stage, so much better. in a way, it is kind of is the adkins diet, meaning you can't have white bread, at least you shouldn't as it is like a cork and will come back up. i don't eat chips or any kind white breads as they don't go down well and it hurts. i can eat whole wheat in small bites. yes it sucks not eating deep dish pizza, but hey it is not good for me anyways, so i deal with it. you learn to eat with the band and what it will allow you to eat. it is a tool and won't do all the work for you. hope things get better for you soon. -
yes you can lose alot and sometimes more with gastic bypass, but you will have what is called dumping syndrome, basically as soon as you eat, you go take a dump. i didn't want to deal with that personally or professionally. i have two friends who have had the bypass done, and both gained the weight back in 3 years. they lost dramatically and gained it back because they thought they could eat whatever they wanted too. It is a tool to use and alot of people abuse it, the bypass and the band. One of my friends had her's redone last year and again has lost over 100 lbs but has very saggy skin from the fast loss. I had my band done in april and i have yet to go back in for an unfill. i get my fills every 4 weeks and my doctor is 40 minutes away, but his nurse is very careful at how much they put in each time. i am also extremely careful about what i eat, had a vomiting episode, won't do that again. It is a tool and you have to work with it, it will not do the work for you. there are people who have lost 150+ lbs with the band and kept it off. it does not work for every one. some have complications. i sat down and wrote the good and bad of the band, bypass and staying fat. the band won it is one leg of a 3 legged stool, diet and exercise are the other 2 legs.
