Gail; I was reviewing some of Chris' notes and he too got real sore night #2 around his port and he too walked alot on day #2, so suggestion is that you take it easy to avoid port pain. I never take pain meds and I am chomping at the bit until the time I can take my next dose. I don't think I did anything BAD I just should have not done so much.

There is a lump about the size of 1/2 cup where the port is, do you think this is normal? The nurses at SCORE did not seem to be concerned. That is the only pain I have, and the pain is enough to keep taking my pain meds since I left the hosp. every 4 hours and I am a mean B**** right around the 3 hour point. I went shopping most all day to get in the walking, I can't say I really enjoyed it but I knew I would be miserable just sitting at home in my recliner. I had 8 oz shake breakfast slimfast for lunch 1/2 cup-3/4 cup bean with bacon blended (my favorite) for dinner total water for the day 64 ounces so far some of the port pain has subsided since shopping and dinner. I carry alot of my weight in my upper body (big busted) and the port is located right under where the bra supports by B**bs and I don't want to make the port flip. I hope the lump is okay too. Chris is around your port swollen? Red was your port area swollen?

    February 2007 bandsters!

I was banded on 3/1 and I wish I had restriction! I want to eat the world. My port is sore as heck and petruding (I hope that is does not stick out like it is doing right now) as a matter of fact that is the only pain I have and it is bad enough to take the pain meds. Has anybody eleses port petruded or looked like a lump just after surgery? I know the band is in place because I saw it on the xrays.

Well I am home and have gas pains, just as everybody else, no big deal as long as I move move move and make somebody massage my back. I am going for a chair massage later today to move the muscles etc. I drank a protein drink for breakfast, did not want to take the time to slowly eat cream of wheat, waht a lazy a$$ huh, but at least I made a good choice. So I am on my way! On the way home I got really excited and happy, you know kinda gitty about being able to finally get what I want with my health.

Chris~ I did see Tina. I think the anesthesiologist makes all the difference in the world~1st time around I was smooth sailing, the second time around I had to take meds from being nauseated, and was real foggy until this AM. Also first time around I had -0- gas pains and I have bubbles and gas now. And I am right now really exhausted. My port bulges , but I don't care I am getting TT in one year so they can fix it then. My adhesions had already started back adhering to my organs~Dr.K. was happy he took me back so soon. When I was wheeled into surgery Dr.K's surgery nurse greeted me and is the most pleasant lady, she calmed me down and talked to me while they hooked me up, and then whammo~(take 10 deep breaths please)next thing you know you are in recovery. The time before they were joking and I was not in a joking mood, I was glad the joking people weren't there. I got to see pics of the band in placement, because (well you know) Did he do it?? So xray tech showed me pics. I had a bariatrix shake for breakfast. I am not weighing until Tues, I don't want to gain especially after I have been through this 2x. I am going to Kohl's to buy a new robe, I have had this one for 20 years and it is my very favorite, but I did not realize that it is so worn you can almost see through it. I can email those documents, so I will do it tonight. All in all I feel the effects of this surgery so I might be a little slow and not so eager to hop out of bed. Chris~speaking of hopping out of bed~even with my 1st surgery, I would feel muscle spasms and have to stretch my abdomin etc when I have been in one position for a long period of time. I will post again later after the friggin gas pain get out of my left shoulder.

Gail; Kinda too groggy to call you on the phone~went into surg about 4pm and again another 2 hr procedure. The adhesions were already attached back again onto my stomach. But he banded me! Very similiar recovery but this one just kicking my butt a little bit more. I don't have a private room like before~they have a full house tonight, so I had to go out into the lobby and post from there. At this point I plan on returning to work on Sat. I am watching foodtv.com The nurse tried to give me sprite! So I am taking the opportunity and educating her on do and don'ts for lapband. There was a family here earlier; their daughter was in w/ Dr.K doing lapband and so I tried calming them down with reassurance and educating them about this site. I have already drank 2c of chick broth YUMMM! If I can't sleep tonight I will browse boards and maybe post some but there is nothing else new.

I know Dr. Kozar just "cringes" when I ask my questions! LOL! Chris on your new computer do you have a fax program? I will fax you the paperwork the nutrionist gave me yesterday, really good tips on picking out foods and if they are good or bad foods. It would not hurt...

I will tell you a story: The overnight nurse coincidently ended up being on of my husbands coworkers wife. They were talking about jambalya for Fat Tuesday and yadda yadd and she said that is my husband. It is a small world. I will say Hi to Tina if I see her. Chris, what is the pros and cons about band sizes; do you know?

Synicalchk; I think what you are describing is the gas moving around and getting through your system. And it is right on time, so better days are ahead. Take some gas x strips and if you can drink warm beverages, heating pad, move around alot to move that gas out. Sounds like you are on track...

The only time I started itching was on my stomach and it was 5 days post op. Itchy itchy all around the incisions, if I let myself I could really do some scratching injuries.

What to tell everybody;why you had surgery? You have hiatal hernia's!! It works fabulous, you just need to read up on them a little bit so you can talk intelligently in case somebody asks you a question. And using that excuse also will be inline with why you can't life anything when you come back to work and why you bend over slowly to pick up that pen off the floor etc.

    Question and Advice

Nvgirl: You are going to be amazed at how quickly you recover, but you will know about 2 days after surgery, so my advice is: can you commit 2 days after surgery? I'm waiting on approval for my lap band surgery. I expect to get the approval in about two weeks. From there I"ll be about 6 weeks out from surgery, which puts me around mid-April. Here's where I need advice... My husband wants me to accompany him on a business trip to Las Vegas the 1st weekend in May. By my calculations, I'll be 2-3 weeks post-op. I'm thinking that it would be a bad idea to try to do an out-of-town trip when I'm barely getting back to solid foods... what do you think?:help:
