  1. Hello All, I am in Las Vegas and have gone to my seminar. I am now going to a nutritionist. I have been reading through these posts and frankly I am scared to death just reading the things that have happened to some of you out there. My only choice from my insurance is to have Dr. Atkins or Dr. Soong at the gastric band institute. Has anyone out there used these doctors?

    scared out of whits

Thanks for your reply. I don't know anyone personally who has done this so I am basically flying by the seat of my pants here. I know that having a good surgeon and follow up care is essential and I have no choice but this one doctor in Nevada because of my insurance. I never thought I would ever get this sick because of my weight. I have obstructive sleep apnea and need cpap at night, high blood pressure, GERD, diabetes type 2 and I recently had a ventral hernia repair last month. I can't stand this anymore. I am at least 100lbs over weight and losing weight for me is a joke. This is partly because of another disease that I have which is called Hashimoto's disease. This makes life miserable. I don't see what else I can do but this surgery if I want to stay on this side of the grass. My doctor has informed me that I will die due to all of these medical problems soon if I don't lose weight. I am only 44 years old and I wish I knew for sure that this was going to work. God help us all. Cathy
  3. quote name='Bruinfan' timestamp='1297356230' post='1572646'] This is my first post and hopefully not the last! I just found out yesterday 2/9 I've been approved and scheduled for 2/16 wow! I've been anywhere from 20lbs to 110 lbs over weight for the past 23 years, 50-110lbs over weight the past 15 years and it's created back problems on and off for a long long time. I've tried everything possible to lose the weight, I was successful yet repeatedly failed to maintain the weight loss. I just feel that the lapband is such a severe step and why do I need to take such a drastic step for weightloss? However, one of my major motivations is to not allow myself to end up like my mother who's been over weight the past 40 years and is now experiencing physical problems with her knees, feet and hip. I would also like to add that I have two young children who are very athletic and my goal is to be very active with them. With my current weight of 292 (5'8") it's extremely difficult to keep up. I was extremely active my entire life, I played college football and baseball I skied for 20 years, I used to jog 5 miles a day, but right now I can barely walk around the block without back spasms, very depressing. I hope this works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Hello All,

I am new to this site and I am in the very early steps of getting a lap band. After reading most of these posts, I am scared to do it. It seems there is alot of problems and failures. I wonder if any of you out there wish you would have had the sleeve gastrectomy or the en Y instead. Thank you for your help. I don't know who else to ask.
