hey Sbear, like Paleokris said I went back after a couple of years (unfortunately 10kg heavier). I don't know if you read eairlier posts but the first time i tried to get the band i was 17 and my BMI was still i think 39 but i didn't have any health problems !YET! so i couldn't get insurance or the surgery so Dr Fris told me to gain 2kg just to get me over that 40BMI mark so i could get insurance so i did and then like a month later i was turned down for the surgery cos of the psycologist(cow lol) but i continued to see the dietician for a few months but it got just to expensive for me so i stoped going to see her, but it did help when i was going to see her every week. At the end of last year i got to the stage where i had gained 5-10kg and still felt like the surgery was my only option so in march i ended up geting the band and im slowly losing weight. I do think you should go to the dietician, I guess you gotta remember its a lifestyle change just like the band its not a diet the time is going to go by anyway so like Paleokris just told me abouth the gym its little steps. You may not have big weight loss at the begining but it will all add up in the end. when i first got the band i was just thinking i want to lose half of my goal by 6 months( that was like 40kg) and know that its 5 or so months down the line and i have only lost around 15kg to me its 15kg i wouldnt have lost before and everyone always tells me slow weight loss is better then quick, it gives your body time to bounce back i guess and get used to the changes and when you do it slowly there is less chance you will gain it back. so my feelings now are that the time is going to go by anyway and im going to try the best i can to do what i can to help the process but any little bit helps and gets you closer to your goal. my new more realistic goal is to get to my goal weight of about 58-60kg(i know it sounds like nothing i may be happier with my body before that weight who knows) by my 21st birthday (oct. 28. 2012). I think its definately more realistic then 60kg in 12months. just think/ set small goals for yourself and work towards them and you will get the result you want in the end.

So, I think its probably time I gave an update I don't know how long its been since i've posted( probably not that long). so im almost at the 6 month mark (about 5weeks till I hit 6months) and im happy with my progress but hoped for more. On the 1st I had a weigh in and im at 97.4kg wich is 15.4kg down from March. sooo i need to step up my game I think, im not hitting the targets I had hoped for. I have an appointment on friday I think, not sure how i'll do. I am having trouble with trying not to sabotage myself. I try to tell myself 'no' but then I do and hate myself for it. I try to tell myself that I want to hit the gym hard, get in there every day but then I get overwhelmed with uni and end up not going. I don't know how to take control of myself and my thinking??? I have noticed a difference in myself in regards to my figure but in the last couple of months its really slowed down and in the last couple of weeks it feels like its stopped. i cant seem to motivate myself... You guys all seem to be doing really well... im proud(lol). Maybe I need a treedmill or bike at home??? I seem to get the urge to exercise at the oddest times of day and usually im at home its the leaving the house thats the problem sometimes. I don't know??? I'll post some more another time

Hi, I was banded about 5 months ago and although i do not have diabetes my mother has type 1 diabetes. My mum is over weight and is considering getting the band but she is on the search for information concerning type 1 diabetes. So my question is... can anyone give me any information about how type 1 is effected by the band or what their experiences have been.

well i do use it but i just dont get around to going on. the only reason i visit this site is that i get emails when someone posts and that i have one in my body otherwise i would probably forget about this to hahaha.

awsome to see your doing well and that youmanaged to get back to wellington in time i had a flight to wellington on thursday 16th and i got cancelled cos it was jetstar but managed to get on one for friday thankfully (no lack of drama). i went for a fill today and felt like a pin cusion eventually she had to get the ultrasound machine out and find how my port was sitting because its on a funny angle (but i was tough haha). i tried to eat a pita bread at lunch but after about half of it, it decided it didnt want to stay down. im hoping dinner is easier(fingers crossed) but im finally at 100.something so i've renewed my gym membership and by my next appointment i will most certainly be under 100kg.
-
yay im off to wellington on thursday night. all my dads family live there. im excited. i had an appt with heather on wed and decided to wait till i get back from wellington to get another fill. i decided to renew my gym membership when i get back aswel i need to kick start this weightloss again because its slowed down to much.
-
ohhh good luck. yea i know what u mean about the hospital it felt weired for me aswel. i hope everything goes well for you.
-
Well good luck Gordana. omg i had such a bad experience tonight. i was at work and i stopped to have dinner. i made chicken, rice and salad and after having like two or three peices of chicken it was like syuck or something idk if it is because i ate to fast or what but it hurt like a b$*#h and it started coming back up i was worried cos i was at work and i couldnt leave but after finishing work and by the time i got home it had started to relieve itself but i dont want it to happen again.

yea i was thinking about it last night and decided that maybe tryin to cut out carbs might not work so im going to try and eat a balanced diet lol how long did it take me to figure that out aye (tooooo long). i will cut down on the carbs and sugar though. today for lunch i had chicken, coleslaw (dont know if thats spelt right but oh well) and a bread roll with a bit of mayo and butter. i think thats kinda ok right probli didnt need the butter and mayo but i only had a bit so i think its ok. i didnt have time for BF though so im a bit annoyed about that, its a bad habbit of mine. now i got class till 9pm so not to sure what ill be having for tea.
-
yup, anything in moderation right.
-
yea i did expect a bit more and im dissapointed in myself that i havent been eating as well as i could have. im still excited that its coming off and no, i can guarentee that i would not have lost this much without the band, i most likely would have put it on. and eating the cheezels, you just gotta get back on the wagon

thanx for the advice. i went to my appt with heather today and she put another cc in, so im up to 4cc in a 7cc band. i felt a difference in the waiting room, i had a glass of water and felt more full. i also went to lunch with my mum and dad like an hour and a half hours ago and i really really felt the difference so hopefully the weight will go down a bit faster in the next two weeks till my next appt. oh and im down to 102kg (-2 from the last appt 3weeks ago) so like -10.8kg in 11 weeks so im kinda happy atm, im gonna cut the carbs from this moment until my next appt and see how much of a difference it makes. protien and vegies for me YAY.
-
Thanxz amourette. i sure will let you guys know how it goes tomorrow

hi feels like ages since i've posted. im going kinda ok atm, i have my second fill appt 2morro and i definately think i need one. im still eating to much. im also a bit worried cos i dont have troubble with any foods, bread, pasta, rice, meat maybe its just cos the bands not full enough. my weight loss has slowed down a lot in the last 3 weeks i've only lost like 1kg i confess i havent done as much exercise as i should be and my diet has been not very good.

hi, a new person thats cool. i am very much the same as you, i avoid socialising and contact with people i havent seen in a while and while i to do not yet have many obesity related illnesses i decided to act first as prevention rather then letting it get to late. im only young but my family history doesnt work in my favour, my mothers side has so many heart related issues and my mum while she is not very overweight has to take like a million different medications(not related to weight) and i didnt want to end up with high blod pressure etc.... my brother is morbidly obese although he is 6 1" at his heviest he weighed in at 182kg and i ould see i was heading in that direction. im interested to hear how you came to this desicion, but i figure we gota do what we gotta do for the denifit of our health. ``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` omg i think i need help im feeling like im doing this on my own and although my aunt had bariatric surgery like 2 years ago it wasnt a lap band, i feel like from what i was told before the surgery and what im experiencing now are completly different i expectied not to be able to eat certain stuff like bread but i can pretty much eat anything with no trouble?????????? not to sure what to do.

ok so its been like two weeks since anyone posted, so how is everyone? last thursday i went for my appointment with Dr Fris but another lady got her times mixed up and came down from up north for an appt so they gave her mine but they put me with heather which was fine. i got weighed, 5 weeks since op and down to 104.0kg thats 5.8kg in 5 weeks im so happy and down 8.8kg in the 7 weeks since starting the pre-op diet. i have another appointment on the 25th so i hope to be under 100kg by then. i also got a fill only 1cc so i think that bringd me up 2 3cc in a 7cc band. i have noticed a slight difference but i think at my next appointment i might need another fill, not to sure yet. i started exercise today i went for a walk with my heart rate monitor on and tried to keep it in the max zone the whole time, i think i did.

laura5127 replied to Young and banded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

HEY, So my names Laura im 19 and 3weeks post op. its going ok, so far. I live in NZ so im probibly a long way from most of you. im in my 2nd year at university, thats ok to (lots of assignments). But im on mushies at the moment one more week then solid foods YAY. so i just wanted to know whats going with people at this stage, im not in any discomfort anymore. im actually feeling pretty good im kinda feeling hungry all the time though well not all the time but once i eat its not long untill im hungry again. its strange. ANYWAY i want to know whats up with other people.
-
yea its good. like i said i have been doing some work outside for my dad but i also want to get some assignments done aswel. but a break from early mornings is nice.
-
so my 4 week appt was changed to next thursday cos dr fris was sick today so i'll have to wait till then to get a fill. im on solids and everything that im having is going down fine i had eggs benidict for brunch thismorrning and ended up having to share it with my mum coss it was just way to big but it tasted soooooooo good. my goal is to avoid carbs starting after easter when i get a bit more used to solids and im gonna start exercise. i have been doing work outside for my dad (not to strenuous. idk if thats how its spelt or not but o well) ohh and i did my measurements tonight. in six weeks i have lost 7.5cm off my waist and 7.5 off my left thigh but i would assume they would be very similar. and some more off my arm. neck, calf, bust and hips so thats pretty good and yeah how are you guys getting on?

Three Weeks Out and Counting
laura5127 replied to laura5127's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
well im 4 weeks today and my appt to see the doc was changed to next thursday cos he was sick today but its ok cos it means it gives me a bit more time to get used to solids. i also feel like i can eat way more then i should. how much can you guys eat in like 1/2 and hour? im trying to slow down it used to take me 10-15 min to eat maybe like a cup of mashed potato but im trying to stretch it out to 20-30 min. yea i need to lose around 55kg i think thats around like 100pounds or soming not to sure.in 6 weeks ive lost about 6kg not to sure what that is in pounds but i weigh 106kg atm. i did my measurement about an hour ago, in six weeks i've lost 7.5cm off my waist and 7.5cm of my thigh( i havent been measuring both just the left but i would assume they would be pretty similar). anyway i've lost some more off my arms, neck, calf, bust etc.. but i dont have them in front of me so cant remember. i never really had any gas pain after about the 3rd day and my incisions havent hurt really since about two weeks out which i think ive been lucky with. My surgeon puts a bit of fluid in the band when he puts in so i alredy have some in but i think i need a fill so i'll get my first fill next thursday. -
Three Weeks Out and Counting
laura5127 replied to laura5127's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yea i think so to, i mean i understand mine being different because im in a different country but in the US its so different between like nearly all the doctors it seems. and also the pre op diets some ppl only had to do 2-3 days of shakes, i had to do two weeks. some ppl didnt have to do it at all. -
Three Weeks Out and Counting
laura5127 replied to laura5127's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi mustangchik, i was banded on the 23 aswell but my pre op diet is quite a bit different. 1 week of light liquids then another week of liquids thickening them day by day, then 1 week of mushies and toward the end of the week i can move on to solids which im doing now. i went out for lunch a few days ago and had raviloi it went down ok, i' ve also tried fish and some veggies which all went down fine. i have my 1 month appt on wednesday a im not sure if i will be getting a fill then but i think i need one. i eat and then an hour later im hungry i dont know if im eating to fast and not enough but im hungry all the time. but i will see what the doctor says.
