Anyone else with complications?
Elie936 replied to bexterity's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so sorry to hear that. How come your surgeon didnt warn you about that, that blows my mind. My surgeon did say that most people having erosion don<t even feel it either. It was the first thing said in the first seminar, because if you need to take anti nsaid, it was not possible to get the surgery. He said that if we have pills without crushing them, it could lodge itself in one of the plits created by the lap band and then make a hole, litterally. Again, he is the one who does most lap band surgery in Canada, and he has seen a couple. I truely hope it gets better for you, and please let your doctor know how he is endangering his patients by not mentionning it. My surgeon gives his patient a special letter to give our doctors and pharmacist about the do s and dont s of medication after lap band. I had to even discuss the surgery with my pharmacist to make sure all my medication was fine, had to change some of it, especially the one for migraines. Seriously, all the best, I hope it heals and you can find a solution. -

Yes thats what they call erosion. They actually talk about it a lot. Our doctor refuses us to take pills without crushing them because it can cause erosion. The way he explained erosion is exactly what you said. -
No one to take care of me!

Seriously after 2 days you will feel not bad at all. The drive might make you feel worst. You will be surprised how fast you recover from this. I would stay home if i were you, the first day is the most important -
What about u wait and see how you look?

Some people are SO IGNORANT!!!
Elie936 replied to AlyGurl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lol well this ad is whats wrong... They are showing a man eating lots of food, kindda showing that with the band, you will eat 3 bigmacs and loose weight!!! No wonder ppl dont understand! Not only this, bcuz of ads like this, ppl getting bands dont even understand what the band will do! And as for the comment, really its just a little retard trying to feel powerfull behind his computer screen.. LOl! Who cares, lets just block this, most of the time it is just jealous ppl. Funny the only 2 ppl against me getting a lapband were my exs!!!! That says a lot no? 2 guys who left me because of my weight, and now it was hitting them that id be skinny, finally:) hehe! Sad and miserable ppl can be so mean to try to feel better about themselves. -
I just want to Say that you have a great attitude. One thing, i dont know if you are like me but i always want things to go fast, and nothing is fast enough. I give myself high goals, and when i dont live up to them, i get very depressed and give up. Your goal seems high for me, not saying you cant do it, but it is a lot to loose. I lost 30 pounds since surgery on april 21th, i had lost 50 poubds prior surgery and had no diet pre op. I lost 17 poubds in the first 2 weeks and then its be a lot slower. I think you should be more realistic, do your best, and expect 2 pounds a week, maybe 3 4 the first weeks. If you happen to go down 25-30 pounds by that time, it would be awesome, if u get to 15-20, you wont be mad at yourself and you will just continu and a year from now you ll be 100 pounds lighter(2 pounds a week).
-
Why dont you stArt weight watchers or something like that? Ur right, support is importAnt, especially since u seem to realise that you need to do more. I started weight watcher because the meeting do help and you can go to as many as you want. I know they dont have the band, but essentialy, we are both trying to loose weight and eat better. They give us such good tricks to loose weight and keep it off and it is amazing during a plateau. And you have the forum here to understand more about your band, and of course your doctor. Take an appointment, show your mom you are makIng an effort and trust me, if she is like my mom, she ll be the happiest woman alive and will bring you to any appointments.she is fed up and upset that you do not take charge of your life, so i think she will get even harder on you if nothing changes. You ll be so proud of yourself when you do, you ll really be confident for once.
-
She says no so you just wont call? Seriously it is that difficult for you to take an appointment yourself? Really im sorry if i sound so rough, but this even sounds like a joke! You risked ur life for a surgery, i dont know who paid it, but you are fortunate to have it and now you are acting like a total victim. The clinic needs to send you letters bcause you dont go to your follow ups and you dont even have the dignity to take the appontment and take care of yourself, inatead you blame everyone! Your mom prob answered like that because she is desperate and tired of being you enabler. Take responsability for yourself, take the phone, make the appointement, go alone(i always do), the doc wont eat u, and if you dont have a car, there are ways, go take a walk or exercice. Your mom can do eerything for you, your doc cannot make you loose weight and watching the biggest looser crying about how big you are and how the band is ****, it wont get you no where. I am really sorry i sound so mean, but this is not a joke, you dont do a major surgery when you cant take responsability for yourself.

Extremely Hungry Today
Elie936 replied to NatalieB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it is very nOrmal, i am not sure if you are litterally hugry or if you are just missing real food. Drinking your food doesnt make you feel full, do the test, have an orange or have a glass of oj, what will make u feel more statisfied? It is a tough step, but sooner than later the pureed stage will come and you will be fine, just try to occupy your mind for now, you will get used to it soon. -
Ask for naproscin suppository, my surgeon prescribed me that after my surgery and now because i have very bad migraines. It is an anti inflamatory med, so it can still be harsh on the stomach, but it wont cause erosion or holes in your stomach like taking one from the mouth. That is what they explaoned to me:)

I wouldnt be so scared, i find that when it goes well, ppl dont find the need to go on boards anymore because everything is good and they inderstand their bands. Hopefully im right:)

removal of the lapband
Elie936 replied to imdeelightful's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish i could encourage you, because i wish i didnt have to have the band forever... However, i know a girl who had it for 5 years, she did great, she lost 150 pounds, she was working with her surgeon because he was so proud of her success. She did support group meetings, she motivated patients before and after the surgery. She is the one who convinced me. She thought she was now healed from Her bad habits and would always stay skinny. Before christmas, her port detached and they discovered her band had leaked(the doc said it is because they did fills and unfills too many times, scary). Half of her body got infected, she had to have the infection drained for 2 months. She lost her lap band and was risky to put another one in. She gained 35 pounds in 3 months. She said she was back to what she was, she couldnt believe it, she was dping so good for so long, she had never gained a pound. She had to get the sleeve to stop The weight gain. I wouldnt have it removed unless it is causing problems -
Well i have read quite a lot on plateaus since i have been on one for a couple weeks. They say that the body gets used to exercise, if you have been doing the same thing, your body gets used to it and learns to spend less energy doing it... They recOmmend changing it around, same with calories. And yes, like the other said, you might have been eating too little calories. One question i think you should ask yourself... Does your body look better when you exercice? Are you loosing inches? If you are, then manby you are not loosing on the scale, but your body is in transformation and you are actually getting smaller by changing the composition inside your body. The body is really special, how many times have i been eating so many calories and not really lOosing and then eat junk food and loose that week!!! I think that exercice for long term is the key, i dont do enough, and i admire ppl like u! G luck

Does Not Needing to Crush Pills = Not Enough Band Restriction?
Elie936 replied to 1970MaleJaxFL's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I dont know but my surgeon wants us to crush our pills because a whole pill could get caught in the skinfolds of the stomack. If it happens, the pill stays there and could cause erosion, he has seen it many times. For this reason, i am very carefull when it comes to pills. -
Yeah, ppl can be mean and jealous or just judgmental. Many ppl i told about the lap band did not listen to my explanation and tought it was by pass. Some ppl told me after the operation, well i didnt want to tell you, but my friend died on the o table, after hours of surgery! I said that is because it is not the same surgery At allllll!!!!!! Once they see you loosing weight, thwy will think differently. A woman at my work had it done 3 yrs ago, my mother didnt understand her And was so quick to say how dangerous it was. Finally, other ppl got it done, and the day i told my mother i wanted the surgery, she wS just waiting for me to bring it up, because her too thought ppl were succesfull. Another thing, our dr say not to tell too many ppl, because the weight loss is not that quick. I Am in this phase, i feel everyone is wAtching me

Wow wow! Good job. You lost 80 pounds in 6 months!!! Hows your diet? Do you exercice lots, and last question, but you really dont have to answer, but we have the same body, i was 341... Hows your skin? It seems tight to me:) You are doing AMAzing, continue, your almost there. Makes me smile
-
Hehe, you make me think of me. If its infected im pretty sure it will become much bigger, the red will swell up. I wouldnt worry so much. If you are too worried, buy bactriban, its a very strong polysporin, the pharmavist has it. I had one the looked like yours and i put some from time to time and it is healed! But if it gets much bigger, yes call your dr asap for antibiotics. All the best, but sleep tight, seems fine for now

Am I doing something Wrong?
Elie936 replied to Zimbo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey, i was banded on april 21th and ive hit a 5 week plateau. I have read many articles on it, and they give really good ideas. They say to switch intake, maybe you think you are eating well, but maybe your calorie count is off and you are actually eating more than you should. It couls be the oposite, maybe you arent eating enough and your body is trying to keep everything in because it feels that it will starve... They say that havig different calorie counts everyday is good because your body never knows what to expect. Another this is exercice, if you have been doing the same excercise for a while, try changimg because your body has become used to the exercice you have been doing. Changing will shock your body and it will be harder at the brgginning so you will burn mOre calories. If not, they say to increase your exercice routine, add another 20min, with more intensity. I hope these trick will work for me, it is so frustating -
So this is Bandster Hell?????
Elie936 replied to slm2007's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did u say u eat and drink at the same time? I know that pushes food down so you donf feel full anymore... My doctor asks to wait 2 hours. Are you eating more carbs or protein? Naybe stack up on protein.... If not, u just have to be patient, ur band needs time:) -
LOST 28 PONDS IN 5 WEEKS SINCE MY SURGERY ? IS THAT ON TARGET OR TOO MUCH ?
Elie936 replied to cpdpjp55's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats, i have a question for u, i know we are all different, but what is ur diet like? Are you doing lots of exercice? Would love to know:) -
I suggest you find a councellor, they could probably show you ways to deal with all that. I have seen councellors and when my councellor met my parents, it made them understand how to deal with me! They now know what to say, what not to say to me. I really needed them to finally know how to help me, and coming from me didnt have the same impact. I totally understand you, and i did understand why my parents felt so helpless and scared. Its should be threated as an addiction, same way you deal with an alcoholic i find, anyways for me. The best of luck, he will reach rock bottom, and hopefully you will know whay to do when he gets motivated again:)

I don't understand
Elie936 replied to jamiesdoingit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello. ReAlly you shouldnt worry one bit, and i know you have heard about this, but it is scary. My doc requires 3 week liquids and 3 weeks puree, no pre op. He doest do a pre op because he says that if we do too long, we will gain as soon as we see a glass of water. I did too loose 17 pounds in 2 weeks, then it stopped, but everybody kept telling me i wAs still loosing. I think that some of that 17 pou ds mighthave been water or something, but fat finally melted after. I didnt loose from week 3 to week 5, i was soo sad. I wasnt eating but couldnt loose, even gained a 2 pounds ans lost it and gained it again. Finally, this week i lost 3-5 pounds. I keep loosing. I think our bodies need a break after strict diets like that. Stop pannicking, it will be fine:) hide your scale plz, and think of your skin, its better slow. Gluck -
I lost the same amout of weight in liquid phase. I stopped loosing for 2 weeks and a half after. It just started again, i am 5 week post up and lost another 4 pounds. Its normL, plus take your mesurment, your body is still changing.

A post-op poll to help the newbies
Elie936 replied to Rachel412's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Love that pool. Im actually pretty sad, i lost 50 pre op, in 6 months, then 17 the first 2 weeks post op, and now nothing for the past 2 weeks. I know it seems to be normal, but im still very sad that the scale has stopped moving. Im getting really scared that it will just stall for ever! Oh do i hate not knowing. I have never stopped loosing, for the past 7 months, i find it soooo scary.
