I screwed up! Had solid foods 7 days post op!!!
Elie936 replied to MonikaHF's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Monika : you should have a look at the new post, listen to your doctor. Dont beat yourself up, what is done is done, and the liquid diet, terrible torture, but that post could maybe motivate you to continu on your liquid diet. It is about someone who did not do the liquid diet after a fill, soon after the band was put in, the band slipped because she got stuck. How horrible hey? It is soooo tempting to cheat, especially since youdidnt get stuck, but what if you did? I decided to follow my docs order to the t because i had a weird lump and the er docs believed my port was out of place and that had developed an hernia, 4 days after surgery. I was so sad because the day after surgery, i picked up my nephew not thinking i couldnt pick him up. I put him back on the flooor when i realised it, but that day at the ER when they told me they had to reoperate right away, and me thinking it ws my fault was enough to scare me for years:) thankfully it was a missunderstanding, it was the new place where my surgeon puts the port, and he didnt inform me or the doc at the er, lol So back to fluids lady:) you can do it, it will be soon over Best of luck -
Hello, yes it can be very painfull, mine were horrible. For me what worked was walking walking walking and the heating pads. Another thing, id sit down on the couch and lower my head so it would touch my knees, when doing it a couple times, it would allow me to burp so much and to pass lot of the gaz. Some say gaz meds helps, but i have asked my doctor, he said it didnt, i have asked my godmother and cousin who are pharmasists and they also said it didnt because it is not for the same type of gas. The pain comes from gas that was inserted during surgery and needs to be absorbed by your body so you can eleminate it. i have tried those meds, and it was money waisted:) Walk and heating pads and lower ur head to your knees, it will soon forgotten:)

Listen to your Doctors!
Elie936 replied to giogirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Poor u! This second surgery must be rough on the system. How are you holding up? The fact that you hate soon after surgery might also be because doctors order are so different, some let their patient eat mushies 3 4 days after surgery, and solids a week later. The liquid diet can be torture at times, so im sure everyone can understand. You became "cocky" thinking you can eat eerything since you had no problem with most foods. One thing though, not that i wanna blame anybody, but this could work in your advantage, most doctors do not fill the band for a couple of weeks after surgery because the stomac is still very swollen. My doctor explained that when installing the band, he needs to put fluid in some becausw the size ofthe stomac is different from one person to the next, and if he didnt put the fluid, the band would be loose. So why did your surgeon filled yours so quickly and with so much cc? Maybe you could ask him that question, and really look into it so you dot have to pay for the new surgery. My surgeon is totally against over filling the band as he says it causes the band to slip a lot more because of the restriction that becomes too strong. He is the surgeon who does the most procedures in canada, so he has extensive experience. Good luck, and continue on your great loss, you will do great -
For Banders Losing 3-4 Lbs./ Week-How Does Your Meal Volume Compare to This?
Elie936 replied to 1970MaleJaxFL's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Also, food shouldnt be getting stuck if you chew well, some bandsters want their band so tight so they cant eat certain food, like meat bread, etc, but in my books thats no fun. Band makes you feel stayisfied faster, thats is the whole point. If it is too tight, according to my doctor, it can slip easily, especially from the pb, if it happens too much. Your band hasnt been filled yet, it normal you dont see its effect Just now!!! -
For Banders Losing 3-4 Lbs./ Week-How Does Your Meal Volume Compare to This?
Elie936 replied to 1970MaleJaxFL's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello. Congrats on your weight loss. I think you might have been misinformed. From what ive been told from doctors and ppl who have the lap band, the weight loss is about 1-2 pouds a week, which is 100 pounds in a year. You are totally on the right track and you are loosing more than most ppl. You must be mistaken it with bypass or the sleeve, they loose way faster. A fast weight lost can be disastrous for your skin, and not so so good for your health. If you eat one cup of food or less in a meal, ad it is not that high in calories, i dont think you can do much more. I know after the liquid diet, your body needs reajustment and you might plateau a bit. Loosing weight during the liquid phase (1pound a day for me) is like a drug. I would suggest you to stop weighting yourself every day, but maybe do it every 2 weeks. I have made that change in my life because looking at a scale not really moving is depressing. Lookig every 2 weeks or every month is so rewarding, also you dont obsess on it. Be patient, you are a success and sure getting there. And dont plan a weight loss, ive done that too many times and my life, and lije anything, nothing ever happens like we plan! You might loose more than you expected at times or loose less, but what is important is that you are loosing:) -
Thank you! I will try to stop worrying, what can i do at this point right? But no my doctor doesnt fix the band to the stomac with a sutture anymore. He used to, but he said that it could be dangerous if the band moved and breaks it off, the stomac content could link or it could do other damage, i dont remember exactly. He is the surgeon who does the most lap band in canada, therefore i trust him, but it does worry me... Could my band move more?!? Ill trust him i guess and try not to thing about my cough.

Hello everyone I am maybe being parranoid, but I have been banded 2 and a half weeks ago. Everything has been fine except for my little tiny nephew giving me a very bad cold. I have started coughing last saturday. Since it is viral, no medication can cure me, I can only take sirups, saline Water and other things, but I have to wait for time to do its magic;) Thankfully, my godmother and cousin are pharmacist so they have given me strong syrups. I have a very bad cough, since I have asthma, it can be very violent at times. I have gagged while i coughed but I didnt vomit. My question is this, is it possible that my band has slipped? How do I know? I am still on the liquid diet for another week. I have asked that question to my doctor a long time ago, before banding because of my asthma. He told me that the band couldnt slip by coughing. What about you guys? have you ever had a very bad cold? have you heard of people who have slipped their band because of violent coughs? Thank you very much

Thanxs for the info! Yes i know that throwing up is very bad... It must be scary when it happens. I have a last question, just so i know... So you said that you had felt something different for the past month before you got sick, what was different? You could eat more? Or you had reflux? Just want to know so i can listen to my body and be prepared if it ever happens to me. Thank u very much -
Getting my 2nd Band in two weeks
Elie936 replied to 43coco's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a question for you, its really too bad what happenned to you, i hope it never happens to me, especially wuth all the success you had. So you said you gained all that weight in 4 monts, you ate too much. Wad it because you became super hungry again or was it because your metabolism was slower, or was it because you had missed having big portions of food? What happenned to you is my biggest fear, and i know it happens a lot, this is why i am asking. Thank you and good luck!!!!! You will do great -
Did anyone else fear for the safety of others during Liquid Fast?
Elie936 replied to gettinthelapbandtogether's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ahaha yes! Yes! Yes! That diet is just insane! I know a woman who did a liquid diet for 8 moths and lost 120 pounds, how did she do it?!? I felt like such a weak person, but it is so hard. It will pass, the beggining is the worst, promise. At least it was for me -
Sorry, some have told be that the feeling of being completly full( like christmas dinner full) is really different after. Good luck

Mmm lots of bandsters need more than one fill. Some dont need any, some do. For my part, ive been followed by a dietician and psychologist for a couple years to learn how to eat when you are actually hungry. It took years, but i finally got to feel it, and lost 50 pounds without dieting but cutting portions before being banded. I struggled many years from eating disorders and it ended in compulsions, thats why i became this size! I had to make sure i did not have compulsions before getting the lap band, and they stopped. Maybe read into it? There are couple books written on that, but all the ones i know are in french. I totally understand ur little "obsessions" right now and wanting to eat a big meal so bad!! Just be patient, im sure it gets easier after a couple of fills or maybe even the next one. The band is a lot of work, lots of mental work, and lots of ppl have told me they had to learn how to eat again, that

7 days post-op left side stabbing pain
Elie936 replied to teekii77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No need to be so angry at ppl! Wow buddy, maybe you had 111000 views and nobody answered because they dont have the answer, not because they hate you and dot want to help you!!!!!!!!!!! The reason why i am saying that is because ppl answers might even make you more worried. Maybe go to ER, or something if your doc is bot available. It could be gaz, ur port, an infection!! But 7 days post op you shouldnt wait when somethig seems wrong. But seriously plz change your attitude!!!! -

MY lapband journey rockey at best so far
Elie936 replied to billhur's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You seem to be way too tight. As your dr done a barium swallow when he filled the band? Having a tight band is dangerous becAuse it can cause it to slip. A band is not made to stop you from eating, it is made for you to feel full faster. Are you eating more than a cup of food per meal? By what you are writting it seems to be the case. Try, like other posts suggest to have some kind of protein during the day so your 2 meals at night can be smaller. Do not drink after eating, for an hour. Your cup of food should consist of protein and carbs, in order to make you full and keep you full for couple of hours. My dietician suggest to have a creamed vegetable soup or v8 before meals so i get my vedgetables. She and my doctors dont recommend eating salad with meals because it is big in volume ( so you reach your cup fast) while it is so low im calories! If you do follow the rules, you eat a cup of protein and carbs, given it is not a cheeseburger and fries, you will not eat a lot of calories, it should be around 1200 a day, and you will loose weight and this without dieting. Dont stay overfilled, i would be frustrated too! -
I finally told my Mom!
Elie936 replied to LOVELYGIRL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well that you tried everything or not, it doesnt matter in my opinion because you have a lot to loose. Maybe you would succeed alone, maybe i would have also, i did loose 50 pounds on my on 6 months before surgery and some ppl have told me not to get the operation, but most stayed supportive. In fact, my surgeon has showed us many research about weight loss and only 5% of ppl who diet actually lose and manage to keep it off. 5%??? are you in there? If you tried already and you havent succeeded, chances are you will stuggle. Another thing you can explain to your mother, fat cells stay in your body when you loose weight, they become empty when you loose weight but they will alwYs try to signal your brain so thAt they cAn become full again. The only way to remove them is by liposuction. It is also what the surgeon has explained to us. It is not a by pass, tell her it is reversable, it is a small surgery, what are the real risks? Being heavy is more risky than having a lap band. Good luck, and i feel your pain, it must be difficult -
I finally told my Mom!
Elie936 replied to LOVELYGIRL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh and ive done ww, i lost weight many times , a lot of weight, but i aways gained it back. I am counting on the lAp band to keep my weight loss in check. Loosing weight is much easier than keeping it. -
I finally told my Mom!
Elie936 replied to LOVELYGIRL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You haave the weight problem, and for years. You need to do something about it, And you need all the help you cAn get. Once the operation is done with, your mom understands that the lap band does not do magic, but that it will help you at weight watchers, then she will rethink everything. I say do it, it works if you follow the rules, i wish your mom was supportive, but i guess she needs infos. -
Banded 1 year, 8 months ago and feeling discouraged
Elie936 replied to dandeegan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello, Its very important that you follow the rules for it to work. Dont drink, or it will wash everything down! By the way you are talking, the band seems to be working, but you are not listenig to it. Yes you do need follow ups, but not necesserly fills i guess since you already get stuck. I think you need more like counselling about food and dieting. I have had that, for compulsory eating, i saw a specialised psychologist and nutritionist for 3 years, and it had help so much, i have lost 50 pounds before even getting the band, but it was lots of work to get myself to change my relationship with food, which i feel you need to do. The band wont stop food for going in, thats is just a missconception and i think you would just be miserable if it happenned. Dont eat more than a cup of food a meal or your pouch is most likely to strech. Good luck, go see your doc, talk to him, yes you have to pay but you have no choice and dont you want to get better, healthy, skinny and happy? -
Omg dont worry! My best friend is a trainor, she was kindda supportive, but i have asked her a couple questions about exercice, she asked her boss about it, and he freaked out, he wanted to call me because " i was making the worst decision on my life"! He said id loose weight way too fast and id be so saggy:) lol First of all, ppl mistake it for bypass! And really, ive tried all my life to loose, with personnal trainors and everything, im sorry i cant live in the gym like them and be as disciplined and eat dry chicken with boiled brocoli with my 10 egg whites for breakfast!!i wish i could, but i cant! I lost 62 pounds in 6 months, and have been banded 2 weeks, but still i dont see myself ever being that disciplined. To each their own, i found my way, and its working extremelly well. Really dont bother, please! Change trainorS, no matter what you will always remember what he says, and you ll never be as proud about your success because he ll always kindda make you feel like you took the "easy way out"!
