Hello, I am newly banded, since april 21st, I have lost 50 pounds since august on my own, without dieting, but by cutting portions, by listening to my hunger. Now the problem is that I am obsessed, I am one week post op, on full liquids( I didnt do a pre op diet), I have 2 weeks left on liquid diet before I move on to mushies for another 3 weeks. All I think of is food, real food, I am not hungry, I just hate liquids, im sick of it.. Is this normal? Will I still be frustrated when I start eating solids? I am scared I have done a big mistake, I was doing so good, loosing weight without being frustrated and obessessed. Do you have any tricks? any foods that I can incorporate? I have been eating shakes(store bought and home made), Soups.. I am so weak, I dont know why it is so hard for me. Its only couple weeks ;(

Mm, ok, so you never cheat, is it possible that u end up eating more of the healthy food becAuse of it? My nutritionniste says that often, when we dont have cheat foods in moderation, we end up eating less of it, because we satisfied our cravings. Could that be true for you? For me it is. Instead of having a couple pieces of chocolate bar, ive eaten 2 yougourts. Thats more calories right there, and i was still frustrated.

Dont worry!! I was exactly like you a week ago, and I was hating my life too .. hehe. you ll get through it.

What? This is the second post i see about that! This is unreal! That would make the lap band the most annoying , torturing thing. My doctor is known to be very strict with his instructions and he is the once who installs the most lap bands in canada, he says to eat fast, in 10 minutes to feel full. I know that is different, but he says, and i have tested it, he says that when eating fast, it hits ur hunger nerves in your stomac to your brain, and you fool your brain! It works for every one of his successful patient ive talked to. Also, he is very tough with fills, he does not like to fill the bands a lot, only when hungry during meals, he does not want his patients to block on food and vomit after and slipping the bands. As for drinking, he said drinking right after is no problem, but after the meal wait 1h30 min. I think the 10 min thing is the most ridicoulous thing ive ever heard! Imagine the catastrophe:)

ahahahahaha! so funny!

Hey. I had the same, plus a gastro:) i was sooo weak. I blame the liquid diet. I used saline water, they sell it at the pharmacy in a special bottle, it was great, i used it 4 5 times a day and it would clear up allll the mucus and it helps to remove the virus faster. Dont worry, 3 weeks post up, i am fine now:) just sleep and drink! And take extra vitamins

Oh but you are her boss! I would so tell her, jist so she learns to put her foot in her mouth! People can be so dumb sometimes And i think you need to show her she is. Her jugding will stop after that.

Binge Eating Specialist
Elie936 replied to aroundthetown's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! Thank you for your post. I think you are right also, most of us here do have an eating disorder and it is binge eating. Someone, a friend of the familly who worked for a specialised clinic in montreal has told my mother 3 years ago that she suspected me to have compulsions because i have gone from 150 to 341 in 10 years, yet when i ate in front of ppl, id have reasonable amounts of food! No one knew about my struggles, it had started with bulimia and then i would try to diet and then go on these 2000 calorie compulsions. Your clinic was very smart to have you sent to see a therapist and i think most ppl here would need to consult one to increase their chance of success and for them to finally understand why food is such an obsession for them. I think it would have been dangrrous for me to have had the lap band before stopping my bing eating. I did stop last year, i lost 50 pounds pre op just with the help of my psychologist and nutriotionist, without dieting what so ever. They understand us, we are the opposites of annorexics, but oh so similar! Therapy like this does take time, but in the long run, it is the best thing ever. I read posts, ppl who are trying to diet and wanting a very restricted band, and i find it so sad because they had no one to finally help them with their problems. Lap band for me is not about restricting my food intake, and yes i will still eat french fies, but so little of it. I cannot diet anymore and the liquid diet has been very horrible for me because it made me wanna bindge so badly, it made me understand my progress even more. My doctor who was given to me by the eating disorder clinic strongly suggested the lap band when i brought it up to him because he said i had so much to loose and it would be a great help. So far so gOod:) -
I am in my 3rd week of liquids and its been diarrhea allll along! I think its the shakes, the milk, a mix of everything. I do take immodium from time to time because it gets very disrupting. I am really not worried, I have aunts who are nurses and they had told me before the surgery that it would most probably happen:)

Another great idea, is to have ANGEL cake. You can usually find them at the grocery store and they are very low in calories and fat, surprinsingly. What I often do is i cream it with cool whip (the light one) or I use egg whites, whip them as if i were doing a meringue and I add a little sugar, really little sugar does the job and i mix in rasberries. If not, you put the cool whip and put strawberries on top, like a short cake. angel cake is such a good substitute, and you wont even believe it is soooo much lower in calories.

For Banders Losing 3-4 Lbs./ Week-How Does Your Meal Volume Compare to This?
Elie936 replied to 1970MaleJaxFL's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
ahah yes, I ve done those diets too. Lucky for you, you are a man so you will loose more quickly! But when you did loose 90 pounds, some of that weight must have been Water and muscle loss..... And you did gain it back, and fast didnt you? You could go on the liquid diet and loose quickly, and go crazy and dream about food and go to fridge after a couple weeks and eat everything , that would be me .. hehe Another thing i may add, my surgeon and nurses have told us not to tell many ppl about the lapband at first because ppl mistake that surgery for bypass and expect us to loose 10 pounds a week!!!! Many of their patients have had that problem. Some ppl around me do mistake the surgery, and I have to re-explain, that i will loose, but not as quickly and not to get on my back. Is your familly expecting too much of you???? if so, go on the lap band site, go look at the amount of weight expected to be lost every week to prove it to yourself and to everyone who might be pushing you too hard. -
For Banders Losing 3-4 Lbs./ Week-How Does Your Meal Volume Compare to This?
Elie936 replied to 1970MaleJaxFL's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
hello again, why are you calling it a slight weight loss???? You have lost a lot, and fast! Like Rachel said, you are setting yourself up for failure, not because you are not doing things right, you certainly are, and congrats, but you are tooooooo hard on yourself and not realistic. You do not want to look like a sharpie, or have stones in your gallblader because you lost weight too fast. People with sleeves or by-pass often have malnutrition problems. MAybe you should message males on this board, you for sure can eat more than women do, and it depends on your job and activity level . Please, again, we are not trying to make you feel better, I can assure you that you are doing very very good. Pounds will add up and before you know it, you will reach your goal weight. Stop being negative about it, it will sabotage everything, and take it from me. I was the queen of wanting to loose weight quick, and doing crazy diets and fasts, and look at me, i went from 150 to 342 in 10 years doing that!!!!!!!! Sorry if i am repeating myself, but your post does worry me because you sound like i did many times. Good luck -

taking meds after lap band
Elie936 replied to kimandkarl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I dont know, i know certain meds are not allowed(by my doc) like advil, ibuprofen, etc. The other pills need to be crushed. I crush them and pour it over apple sauce. I had to change some medications because they couldnt be broken up. I think the best person to ask would be your pharmacist, they have changed eerything for me. -
First week post op
Elie936 replied to slimminurdown's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey! Gas gas gas, how horrible;). One thing i read here at some Point and did help was to sit down, and lower my head to my knees. I would do that a couple times and it would help me sooooo much. It would allow me to burp a lot after. So seems silly, but do it, lower your head to your knees and stay there for a couple of minutes. -
Some fever post op, day 3...
Elie936 replied to Tammy Dawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you look at the lap band site, they say, if you got extreme stomac pains, migraines or fever, you must contact a doctor immediately. Maybe its nothing, but right after surgery like that, i wouldnt wait too long. Better be safe then sorry:) good luck -
Omg poor u! What a nightmare. I dont know enough but i do know a friend who had her port changed because the tube attaching it to the lap band broke off. Long story short, after she was succesfull with the band for 4 years, they had to remove it because the new tube got infected. She had to have the entiring thing removed and it finally healed a month later. She too had to have her wound drained, and had to go to the hospital every couple of days, but once the lap band was out, it helped. I know that is not a suggestion you want to consider, i d be devastated and not a dr, but maybe have it removed for a little while would clear the infection? And you can have it replaced in a couple of months? Then again, i am from quebec , canada, the governement pays for my surgeries, i know in the states it all depends on what the insurance covers. I wish you the very best of luck, you are very courageous.

I know we are all different, if id stop eating sweets, or junk once in a while, id go crazy and have a compulsion. Then again, that is me! I rAther have a few bites of a cake and a few french fries once in a while mixed in to my good habits. The only thing that worries me is that you say your sourrounding has a hard time adjusting to your new lifestyle... Dont you think you will find yourself in situations where there will be cake and pizza and french fries? Maybe have fruits dipped in a little chocolate fondue? Listen, some ppl do have great admirable will power and are able to cut sweets and junk for the rest of their lives, and amen to that, but i chose not to live this way because i always end up extremelly frustrated months down the line and it has been the reason i have gone from 150 to 341 in 10 years! I have dieted, toooooo many times, and done too many strict diets, and i have each and single time got obsess about food. It took me years to stop my eating disorder and one of my first task i was given by my nutrionnist and psychologist was to go to the supermarket and buy everything i wanted. At first, i gained a bit, but slowly, and i emphasize on the slowly, i have stopped feeling guilty about fatening foods. I have stopped buying light foods, and guess what i lost 50 pounds not dieting at all, but listening to my hunger! So it does work.

Soon it wont be as bad. I was so worried too, i was burping like a man and never did before surgery. It has really dimished Since. Your digestive system is all screwed up. Some have told me they had problems until couple weeks after they started eating solids, some keep gaz inside body longer. Dont worry!!! But one think, do not eat gum, my doctor was very serious about that. Chewing gum will pump air inside your stomac and you will need to burp and fart:(

Calorie Range - How many calories do you get in per day?
Elie936 replied to divabray's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Id say, same as everyone. I have lost 50 pounds in 6 months pre op and i was eating 2000 calories a day! Now post op, i lost 15 pounds the first 2 weeks on the liquid diet and now for the past 3 4 days, it is stalled. I am drinking btw 500 to 1000 calories id say, so theoretically i should be loosing, but i think i even gained 2 pounds!!! My body is for sure reacting to the drastic diet. I havent gained any weight for the past 7months and now i am doing a drastic liquid diet, how silly does that sound! I think you should try what the other have said, up your calories a bit, play with it, it must be scary to do, but i think your body needs a little more. -
horrible tom cramps what to take?
Elie936 replied to ADifferentAlli's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey, i have the same issue, and i get terrible migraines with aurA. Tylenol never worked and sure doesnt work now:( thankfully i had a NAPROXEN supository left from my surgery, it worked soooo fast. I will ask my ob gyn if i can use that for my migrains and cramps during periods because the pain is not really tolerable and what worries me is also the nausea i get from the pain. So ask them, naproxen soppository, on the internet it does say it is used for that! -
