I have had my lapband for almost 2 years (june 3rd will make 2 years) I have lost 75lbs. I love my band. However, I am having issues. Now, when people see "acid reflux" they automatically say... "band is too tight, go see the dr." etc. Well. about a year ago, i started having severe acid reflux, where i am actually waking up at night choking on it. Even sitting straight up to sleep. I went to my doctor, he unfilled me. I still had acid reflux, but it was taken care of by pepcid. I got a great fill and wham... the severe acid reflux is back. So he unfilled me again, did the barrium swallow... and seen i did have acid reflux even with out a fill. So he put me on protonix for 2 months, which worked amazing. Gave me a great fill... and kept me on the protonix. Which worked great for the first 3 weeks. Now... 1.5 months later i am taking protonix in the am 30 mins before i eat, then around 4pm i take pepcid and around 8pm im throwing up my food just to get relief from the acid reflux... not bc im stuck. Then i chew some tums, go to bed sitting up. I really dont know what to do. I made a dr appt to see my dr on the 4th to discuss this... but all he will want to do is unfill me. But my fill is fine. I never get stuck. And the thing is, my acid reflux flares up 1-2 hours AFTER i eat. I get that "stuck" feeling 2 hours later. I think whats happening is ... the food i eat is sitting in my pouch and slowly going through to my stomach. The acid is coming up and getting stuck in the pouch with the left over food. And i end up throwing up the food in the pouch. Im at a loss... scared. I dont want an unfill nor do i want anything to mess up my throat, or band slippage. With all the fills and unfills... ive gained 16lbs. I recently lost 9 lbs with this last fill. So the fill is great. This acid reflux is killing me. Is anyone else dealing with this? I feel so .. blah! Any words are welcomed

3 days post op. First 2 days were fine. Today I've been so sick to my stomach. I've been able to keep my protein shakes down. I've taken my liquid Zantac as prescribed twice a day. Does anyone know if they sell those little stickers over the counter or something in a non pill form? Yuck I hate this feeling.

My surgeons office is closed all week. I know that my dr is on call 24 hours, I'm just trying to not bother him. I will try consuming more calories and drinking more. I will be sending my dad to get me some gatoraide later. I tolerate liquids and full cream blended soups just fine, I'm just not hungry so I forget to eat. So far I've had 1 protein drink and half a can of cream of chicken soup. That's been since 830am to 1230p. I'll keep on sipping. Plus... I haven't had a bowel movement since Friday. Could this be reason of nausea too?

I have decided to have my 10cc band replaced with the 14cc band due to complications. I am having surgery this Friday at 7am... And even tho this is my 2nd go around I've totally forgot what the healing and recovery process is like lol. I have a heating pad, gas x strips, pillows to sit up, broth, Popsicles , water, and protein shakes. Am I missing anything ? I am so nervous that this go around is going to be painful. Has anyone else had their band replaced ? Was it much different from the first surgery? And did anyone else dr mention scar tissue removal? Thanks for reading.

I had my lapband replaced yesterday 12/20/13. I had surgery at 7am and was out the door by 11am. The dr said I had quite a bit of scar tissue and the 10cc band was indeed too small for me. He said everything went perfect. I was very nauseous and in pain so they gave me meds n when I felt better I was walking to my car and my dad drove me home (1.5 hours). I walked and walked around the house. I woke up today and my word.... The worst pain ever is from the trapped gas. My shoulders and back are killing me. My port incision hurts a lot so I use my legs n arms to compensate .... So my legs feels like I did a thousand squats and my arms feel like I lifted 100lbs lol. So I'm just sore ALL over. I have 0 appetite ... But I got 1.5 Protein Atkins shake down and half a can of really milky cream of chicken soup w out the chicken chunks. Strained it. Instead of 5 incisions I only have 2. But hey whatever works. If this gas would go away, I'm sure I'll feel a lot better. I have gas x strips. Don't find much relief. Heating pad and hot shower helps more. Here's for round two for me!

Are you eating small portions and chewing? Yes my new dr told me I def needed a bigger band and I have scar tissue. I had surgery yesterday and the dr said I def had scar tissue which he removed and he said my 10 cc band was def too small. So I'm hoping things will get better. Ask your what he thinks.

I had my size 10cc band for 3.5 years. It created scar tissue underneath bc of it being too small for my surgery. My main dr kept telling me that I'm eating wrong etc but I wasn't. I am a very by the book type person. So in January of 2013 I went to a new dr. He gave me options... It took me this long to decide. So I went back n we discussed it all again. Andddd now I'm 1 day post op. Dr said everything went amazing. He removed scar tissue and the band was indeed too small for my stomach. He doesn't understand why my main dr would have placed it in the first place. So, im hoping I'll be on the right path after all this liquid n mushie stuff is over lol.

I was banded June 2010. The first year went great. I lost close to 75 lbs. One day I went to get a fill and the dr filled me so tight, the min I took a sip of water I felt a horrible pain and vomited immediately. Ever since... 2.5 years later I have struggled. I vomit almost all I eat. I've been several times to be tested for hernias, upper gi, endoscopy , and barium swallow. They never find anything wrong. Therefore I am done. I haven't been tested in about a year. I got tired of forking out money. Now, I am DONE. I want it out. Ive read several stories on here. I guess I know to expect a week off work. But what I'm most concerned over is the scar tissue. What other side effects will u get from scar tissue? What else should I expect? Any advice ? Kind words ? I am solo emotional over this, but I need it gone. I need to start anew.

I'm nervous as heck. So scared of the pain or nausea ... I have hour n half drive back home. I dread that the most. I am scared... But I have faith all will be ok. Thank you so much for encouraging words.

My band slipped and developed scar tissue. Making it hard to eat. Surgery is tomorrow morning at 7 am. Eeeeekkkkk.

I'm not in brevard but I'm in Polk. About a hour away. Congrats on your surgery. I had my lapband 3.5 years but go in on Friday for surgery to have my lapband replaced. My current lapband is too small. What are you experiencing?

My surgery date is the 20th. I am very nervous, mainly bc things are happening so fast. One min in the dr office next thing I know I'm having surgery Ina week! Currently on liquid diet. Ready to get this over with. I pray all goes well and the pain subsides quickly.. Pre op appt is Wednesday.

I am also a dec bandsters. I am getting my lapband removed and the larger one placed. I'm nervous about the pain but reading your post reassured me it does go away in due time. Recovery stinks lol

Where are you located ? I am in fl. Regardless chatting n exchanging food ideas sound great !

UPDATE:: I have decided to have the band replaced, and shockingly enough.... One week liquid diet and I have surgery this Friday at 7am. Wow! I'm nervous and anxious. Please send prayers and well wishes. I sure need em.

Thank you so much for your thoughts. I didn't see this until now, I was never notified of a response. I truly appreciate what you wrote. I will def ask my dr those questions you posted. I didn't even think to ask that. I've been prayng and prayng and I feel like my answer is coming to me from all my wonderful friends n family who are encouraging me to try this one more time. My dr was just trying to be realistic , I don't think hew as trying to scare me into anything. Bc he was all for removing it too. He said if he removed the lapband that it is hard to go back in year or so later and place a new one bc of scar tissue. This scar tissue stuff confuses me. Anyhow he said I should do I fine if I want to replace it same time as removing the smaller band. My nurse also told me that folks who get the bigger band do WONDERFUL with the bigger band. So it's kind of reassuring. What were the reasons you had yours removed? Congrats on keeping the weight off and continually working toward your goal!

Update: I went to see my dr today and he gave me two options. Having the band removed with little chance of getting rebanded due to scar tissue issues. Gaining all my weight back plus some and living with the fact that I didn't give it a 2nd chance. OR allowing the dr to remove scar tissue from my stomach. He' said with the smaller bands that scar tissue can form under the band causing restriction even though there is no Fluid in the band. He would remove the scar tissue and then replace the band with a 14cc band. He said it would give my stomach so much more room to breathe if I ever needed a full unfill or happen to slip. I really want to keep my lapband and try again with a larger band. I've just been through hell with this current band for 2.5 years and it's hard to focus on positive outcomes. I told the dr when he does the surgery if he finds scar tissue and things that would have caused me to vomit and experience acid reflux then go ahead n fix me up. But if he goes in and finds nothing wrong... I want it out. Bc that means my body just isn't accepting it. Any thoughts ?

Thank you to everyone who responded. Its nice to know im not alone in this. My dr seems to think its something im doing. UPDATE: I went and had all Fluid removed from my band, but still have restriction bc my stomach is so swolen. I went to my primary dr and he sched a endoscopy done on the 30th of this month. So they can see if i have a hernia, ulcer, etc. To find out why i have such severe acid reflux. The other night I had some chicken, and got stuck so bad I threw up. I went to the dr yesterday and told him i wanted a barrium swallow bc i know something is wrong. How can i get stuck when i have no restriction?? Well. I have a piece of chicken lodged in my pouch and stomach. The dr says it will pass. If it doesnt pass by the 30th, they will remove it when i have the endoscopy. Nice. I am so over all of this!

Thank you for your response. Prior to surgery i had a Hiatal Hernia, and now when i tell him i feel its back... he says "well i repaired that during srugery." and when i ask .. "well can they come back??" He says, they can but i dont feel as though you have one. " Its almost as if he is in denial. Bc everytime i go in... which has been... 4-5 times he unfills me. I had to demand a barrium swallow. He said the band looked fine, but he could see i had acid reflux and put me on protonix. WHich worked great for the 1st 3 weeks. Now... im back to this. Im miserable. Protonix doesnt help ANYTHING now. Nothing helps to be honest... throwing up seems to be my best option.

I had the barium swallow done about a month ago and he said the band looked fine. Will the barium swallow tell the dr if it needs to be repositioned?
