Never heard this!!!???
Arria replied to Imonmyway7368's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There's really no need to worry. You will be intubated, but honestly I wouldn't have known I had been except for the sore throat I had for a couple days after surgery. And as far as a cathetar goes, I've rarely heard of people needing one post surgery. I will second what others have said and suggest that you call your surgeon's office and ask the nurse any questions you have about the procedure, they're there to help you! Good luck with your banding! -
I would just say something like "Because of past experiences with this, I have made it my own policy to not loan out my money anymore." I don't think a type of response like that could be considered rude by anyone...it's a blanket statment and cannot be taken personally by the one who is asking you for your hard-earned money. I can't believe your co-worker would have the nerve to ask you anyway!!

I second, third, fourth, and fifth everything said about Britney Spears!! Ugh, I am SO sick of hearing about her. I saw a headline on Yahoo news, which prompted me to come here and post the link...it's just disturbing. The story basically says that Britney Spears' mother is writing a PARENTING book of all things!!! WTH??? Spears' mother plans parenting book - Yahoo! News

I stand corrected! Like I said, that's just what I had always been taught. Still, I don't really see it as that big of a deal...I highly doubt his lack of salute was because he's unpatriotic.

I understand where you're coming from on this...but he's actually the one doing it correctly! (from what I've learned, at least) I'm a singer, and have been in countless choirs since the 4th grade, so I've definitely done my fair share of national anthem singing. What I've always been taught is that during all pledges (state and national) you cross your heart with your hand, and during the national anthem you simply show your respect by standing. It is kind of unfortunate for him though, that he's the only one in the picture and seems to not be showing respect for the flag...makes him stand out in a not-so-good way.

PLEASE HELP!!!! binging and head hunger??
Arria replied to mejr62's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am definitely a boredom eater!! It doesn't go away after the band, at least it hasn't for me just yet, but I find a great way to combat it is to go out and exercise. If I'm getting bored, and food comes to my mind, I'll either go outside and walk around the block a few times, or I'll hop in the car and head to the gym if I haven't already been that day. So far, that's the only way I've learned to get over my head hunger! I feel way better after I exercise than I ever have after binging on food when I know I shouldn't have eaten it... -
Well, the guy never sent me a response. I'm totally ok with it though, I mean, if he doesn't even have the decency to respond, why would I even think about dating him?? Your date sounds like it was fabulous, by the way! He sounds like a keeper!

*Sigh* I just sent the guy I've been talking to a message about my surgery...now I just have to wait until he reads and and worry obsessively about what he's going to write back... On a happier note, I had my first fill today!! I was terrified it would hurt (I am HORRIBLE with needles) but I barely even felt it. He only put in 1cc, and told me that there was already some saline in it from my surgery, so he is guessing that there's a total of about 3 cc's in my band. No restriction just yet...but I'll give it a couple of days!

I had to pay between 16,000 and 17,000 dollars. My fills are free for 6 months, and after that, well I'm not really sure how much they'll cost.

Thanks everyone for your advice!! I think I'm gonna just go meet him, and to heck with what he thinks of my body! I'm a good catch, and if he can't see that...well sucks for him!! I'll let you guys know how it goes

Yeah, I've had that stuck feeling a few times. I'm almost a month post-op, but I haven't slimed or PB'd yet. There's another thread on here that talks about drinking pineapple juice when you get that stuck feeling. Apparently there's something in it that helps dissolve/break down the food and help it pass. Here's the link: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/something-all-bandsters-need-must-have-41694/

Hi again! Thanks for all your input...I think I've decided to just go ahead and send him a message explaining that I had surgery. I can't help but feel that since he messaged me, I don't really owe him an explanation...but I guess it's more for my protection than for his! Missy- What happened with those guys? Did you ever actually meet them? I've sooo had that happen to me as well... Dibaby- I completely agree that men can be incredibly oblivious...that's why I'm in this predicament in the first place, I do believe! So should I just send him a message saying that I had lap band done and let him realize i'm overweight from that? I can't see myself just sending him a message that says "hey, by the way, before we meet I need to tell you that I'm fat." lol i definitely don't think that's the right way to go. Thanks again!

Hi guys! I'm a recently single bandster, and was hoping there'd be some sort of thread about being single with the band! I kind of just started my band journey, I've been banded for about a month now...but I'm already feeling great about the new me, so great that I joined eHarmony last week (probably a bit pre-maturely lol) I've already started talking to a guy and we have totally hit it off, but my problem is, I don't know if he knows that I am overweight. I mean, I put up a variety of pictures that I don't believe misrepresent my size at all...but from some of the things he's said, it just doesn't seem like he *knows*. He's already told me that he wants to meet me and go on a date, but I'm scared of his reaction (20 something guys, from my experience at least, don't seem to be the most forgiving and can sometimes be downright cruel) So I guess my question is...should I trust that he has seen my pictures and can tell that I am overweight, should I somehow bring it up to him before we decide to meet, or should I just go on the date without saying anything and show him just how attractive and fun I really am regardless of my size? (if only it were that easy!) Thanks in advance!

*** life at 3wks of being banned****
Arria replied to magooz07's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm with y'all...I was banded three weeks ago, and I've been able to eat way more than I should be. I lost 19 pounds initially, but have gained a few back since the swelling went away. I get my first fill in exactly one week! So excited to start losing again! -
I got Ron Paul, not really a surprise there...I doubt he'd get the republican nomination anyhow, although there's still quite awhile until that's decided.

Things People Pass Off For Compliments and Things Skinny People Say That Piss You Off
Arria replied to j_war06's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I used to work as a cashier at a home decor store, and a lady walks up to the register and we're chatting while I'm ringing up all her stuff. I start to lift up her huge comforter set onto the counter, and the lady says "oh no! you shouldn't be lifting heavy things like that, you're pregnant!" I just looked at her, lifted the comforter myself and said "I'm not pregnant, I'm just large." She looked mortified. After she left, I took a break and bawled my eyes out in the breakroom. Why do people still insist on asking that question?? We all know it's a huge no-no!! I've got a best friend who's a size 4. She's actually very supportive of me, but sometimes...ugh. The other day she says to me that whenever I lose all my weight, she's gonna have to watch out when we go out cause we'll actually be in competition for guys. WTF?? So no guy could like me right now even if I'm plus-sized??? I guess that's why I have a boyfriend and she doesn't....bah. Sorry just had to get that out! -
I was in Mu Phi Epsilon, a sorority for music majors. I loved it, but then again it was not your typical sorority (i.e. no sorority house, no wild parties :-p). I think sororities and fraternities are great! It's a really good opportunity to do work in the community, to meet new people, establish career connections, plus you get a lot of cool t-shirts, lol!

I'm deathly afraid of wasps. I don't know what it is about them, but I will run away screaming anytime I see one, even if it's a generous distance away from me. Tornados also scare the crap out of me. I have nightmares about them all the time, but I've only actually witnessed one or two of them.

LOVE the show! I was actually banded by Dr. Robert and Dr. Garth a week ago, and really they don't push the RNY on you unless they really feel you need it. The show seems to be all gung-ho on the RNY, but in reality they are very supportive of both surgeries, it just depends on your individual situation. Personally, Dr. Robert told me he wouldn't have done a RNY on me even if I had wanted it, but I think that had a lot to do with my age, starting weight, mentality, etc. I agree with lauraj23...it'd be so much harder for them to revise the RNY to a lap band, which I think is a major pro for the lap band. Not to mention, the lap band will always be there for you even if you've been slacking for a bit with exercise, not eating exactly the way you should, and so on...whereas with GB your stomach can end up stretching back out again and you're kind of screwed at that point.

I need advice guys!
Arria replied to lisathompson06's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had my surgery last thursday and it was also my first time under the knife. I was pretty nervous about it too, didn't know what to expect and such, but everything went very well!! It ended up not being as scary as I thought it would be, and the pain really hasn't been too bad. I have to say, I'm so excited to see another person around my age having the surgery done! I'm still relatively new here, so I'm sure there are more of us that I haven't discovered yet. But anyway...good luck with your surgery next week, I hope all goes well! -
Are you on Clear Liquids or full liquids?? Clear liquid includes broth, Water, sugar free Jello and popsicles, etc., and full liquids starts to incorporate strained cream Soups. I was also banded on 9/20 and was eating cream Soup the very next day, as per the doctor's orders. Honestly, you should be fine, but if you feel you did something you shouldn't have, checking with your surgeon is the best option.

I just don't understand what they intend to gain from meeting with him...

I've lived in Texas all my life, and really can't imagine living anywhere else. I live 20 minutes away from a big city, and only 30 minutes away from the beach...I've got everything I need right here, why move? But...if I absolutely HAD to move...I'd go with somewhere that actually has a fall and a winter, so I guess somewhere along the east coast. Instead of it being 75 degrees Christmas day, it'd be nice to have a white Christmas for once!

I had a similar problem with the liquid diet. Every Protein shake I tried came right back up, so I called my surgeon and he agreed to a low carb/low fat diet. I won't lie...I cheated a few times, and fretted like heck over it until they put me under for surgery. Luckily, my cheating must not have been too bad because my doctor said the surgery was very easy. I don't suggest cheating though, it puts a horrible strain on your mind and can definitely have a negative impact on how your surgery will go. Good luck, I know you can do it!
