I'm starting this today. I've been stalled for 6 months and basicly not really caring becuase I'd lost enough weight to be where I was in my 20s. But I'm not happy. I know i can do better. I didn't get surgery to settle for what I've always had. 5 days without sugar. This will not be pleasant but I'll get it done! Spring is here and it's time to stop hybernating.

What is wrong with me??
snowfie9 replied to ASBgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know exactly what you're talking about. I've only lost 10lbs in the last 2 months becuase I've been getting off track. It doesn't help that I've been so stressed lately (that seems to be a big binge trigger for me). I'm not gaining anything, but I'm not losing either. I'm trying to get out and walk more for the stress. I'm definately at the point where I need to exercise. -
The best vitamins????
snowfie9 replied to meggspeggs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
for multi-vitamin I have centrum silver chewable (becuase it doesn't have iron, I take BA iron separately) and it's an aquired taste but I don't mind it naymore. The regular centrum chewables I can't choke down for some reason. -
does the hunger take a few days to go away?
snowfie9 replied to Kami's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It does, but often time that growly stomach feeling right after surgery is caused by too much acid in the stomach. Try taking an acid reducer like priolosec and see if that helps. -
$51,746 Forest Park Hospital Bill for 2 nights stay and NO COMPLICATIONS
snowfie9 replied to former_vbg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's almost a racket how much they charge for the "going" rate. I had an MRI a couple years ago and the base rate was $3000, but the contract rate for my insurance was only $300. Really? Why not just charge everyone that? You know you're not getting $3000 out of someone who has no insurance! Why bother charging that much??? One night stay in the hospital was $40k JUST for the room (not including ANYTHING else). I coudn't believe it. The contract rate for insurance was only $4000. And I think I ended up paying $1000 of that. -
Three Months Update (give or take a week!)
snowfie9 replied to meggiep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Meggie! You're doing great! I was also May 9 and have lost 45lbs so far, but have only lost 5lbs in the last month. I admit I had been a bit out of control with my eating and have beeing reining it in this last week. I'm keeping a food journal and tracking what I'm eating and avoiding Snacks at work (I've had a problem with stress eating when I'm at work). I have an appt to see my surgeon tomorrow becuase one of my incision sites seems to be infected. IT's been healing differently than the others, more like a puncture wound than an incision. It's been slower to heal and had been seeping a little but the last week the area around it has just erupted and is inflamed so I'll get that checked out. -
I have to go back to the surgeon's this week.
snowfie9 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had one incision that hasn't really healed right. It healed more like a puncture than a cut (which takes longer) and it's been seeping the entire time (It's been 3months since my surgery). Well the last couple weeks the would has finally closed up and looks like it's healing but the skin aroudn it is starting to get red and itchy and errupting. SO I think I may have gotten an infection, that or there's something in the wound that is stuck and won't let it heal right. Did anyone else have something like this? -
Where are all the May 2011 Sleevers?
snowfie9 replied to kemo46's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
no regrets. I haven't lost any weight for about a month (nor have I gained), but it's starting back in its downwad spiral. I had my mother-in-law visit us and (I confess) I've been stress eating at work. But I'm getting it under control and things that have been stressing me are starting to resolve themselves. I'm down 45 lbs as of today and I feel great! I do need to start excercising but it's so hot! -
I was on a mild anti-depressant but it was keeping me from sleeping so I went off it and yah, I've been really cranky and frustrated, especially at work. I am sleeping better though. And I am capable of being happy. Work's just been really stressful and it's wearing on me.

for potassium, try making chicken broth with lite salt (since it has potassium chloride as well as sodium chloride) or drink the broth from a can of "healthy request" Soup, also made with potassium choloride. Good luck!

Tomorrow will be 2 months for me and almost 40lbs lost. I had a bit of a stall the last week or two but starting to move int he right direction again.
-
It happens, you'll lose it all back soon. I think I'm in my first stall, trying to get back to basics. I might even just do Protein shakes for a couple days. I now allow myself one "cheat" day. I dont' eat a lot but I"ll eat whatever I want on that one day. and be good the rest of the week. I've actually done pretty well on that kind of diet in the past. Gotta mix it up!

NEED HELP BUSTING A STALL
snowfie9 replied to dcoates's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'ts definately good to shake things up in a stall. Whatever you've been doing, do something else for a few days or a week and that should be enough. But it can be hard to know what to do. Fewer carbs is a good bet, but fewer calories? Sometimes you need more calories to bust a stall. It can be difficult to tell. but good luck. -
Being alone after surgery
snowfie9 replied to mythreechildren2001's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My husband felt it necessary to be home for the first few days but I didn't need him there. I know they want to make sure there's someone there to make sure you're okay and take you to the hopital if you're not, but I didn't need anyone to help me with anything once I got back from the hospital. -
drinking too MUCH Water can actually flush out your sodium and potassium. I had a diet that required us to drink an insane ammount of water a day and to take "mortons lite salt" since that contains both sodium chloride and potassium chloride. There's a few things you can do depending on where you're at in your post off jouney. If you're on liquids, you can take a 1/4 or 1/2 teaspoon of lite salt and dissolve into a little warm water and down it. It tastes horrible but the warm water for some reason helps. You can make a Soup that contains a significant ammount of lite salt. Here's my favorite recipe: In a blender add 1 can of diced tomatoes (no salt added variety) 1 teaspoon of lite salt 1 teaspoon of chili powder garlic powder to taste and whatever other goodies you may want like basil or oregano. Blend it until it's nice and smooth. heat and enjoy. If you don't want to make something yourself, you can also look for "healthy request" canned soup as that also uses lower sodium salt. The nutrition label will show how much sodium and potassium there is. Hope that helps.

These food dreams are torture
snowfie9 replied to imawhodat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No food dreams but I did recently have a dream that I lost all the hair on the top of my head and also a dream that I was trimming my really long toenails. Oh and I've been unusually irregular and have been dreaming about bowel movements. Not food related but still pretty of odd for me. -
Unable to feel nauseous after sleeve?
snowfie9 replied to myrori's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Last week, I ate something too fast and didn't feel my "full" signal and what you experienced happened to me. It wasn't nausea, but I had to expell whatever wasn't going into my stomach (and surprisingly that's all that came up, just that little bit). Should I have felt nauseaus? I don't know. I've thrown up without nausea before surgery so it's hard to say that the sensation has been completely removed. But I have no problem interpreting what I am feeling as "something's coming up soon, get ready". I havne't felt nausea since surgery but I can't say that I felt it much before surgery either. -
Need some good come back tips for the neg. people
snowfie9 replied to Was a humpty dumpty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nutritionist recommended smiling really sweetly and saying "I'm sorry you feel that way". But i have a problem apologizing for someone else's ingorance or meanness. So I think I'd smile and say "it's unfortunate you feel that way". -
Friends... did you lose any :(
snowfie9 replied to Tamz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've only lost 35lbs so far but everyone has been really supportive. People that want to lose weight will ask me all kinds of quesitons about my surgery but I haven't had a single backhanded comment yet. I just can't understand how people can be so mean. -
How long did your pain last after surgerY?
snowfie9 replied to Ready4aNewLife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
maybe two weeks. It went away pretty quickly once the drain was removed. But at its worst it felt like sore abs from too many crunches. it wasn't a sharp pain, just soreness. I only took pain medication for a couple days because the drug itself knocked me out so I could sleep. your milage may vary. -
20 week comparison photos
snowfie9 replied to PatrickG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
good point, but one thing I've noticed losing weight is that I FEEL taller because of the height to width proportion changing. But I'm pretty tall to start with. -
Will I ever not feel like a fat girl?
snowfie9 replied to aaa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First of all, it's incredible how much you've lost and you should be so proud of yourself (I don't even know you and I'm proud of you! LOL). I think the question of how one perceives one's self has as much to do with how long you were overweight as it does with how severely overweight you were. I have been obese, literally, my entire adult life (and most of my childhood). I will always perceive myself in that lens because it's so ingrained. but that doesn't mean I'll keep seeing myself as "the fat girl" because for a long time I didn't see myself that way. Sure I was overweight. Sure I wore plus sized clothes, but I wasn't so overweight that it kept me from participating in life. That was a fairly recent event as obesity does invariably get worse with age. If anything, as I approach a normal weight, I imagine I'll perceive myself as anorexic or TOO skinny (and the sagging skin won't help I'm sure). normality for me has always been obese and (hopefully) those norms will change with time. -
I'm doing pretty well. I'd lost 30lbs but had gotten a bit out of control in a bad carb spiral (what I call them). But I reigned myself in and focused on protein protein protein and lost another 5lbs in the last few days.
-
Oh yah that's totally normal. I try and scratch AROUND the incision instead of directly on the incision so I don't disturb the tissue directly.
-
I've been using vitamin E and I don't nkow if it helps but most of my scars are pretty faint. There's just this one that was really small and for some reason resembles more of a puncture than an incision (it's round) and as such it taking longer to heal.
