  1. The only time I've ever lost my hair was this one time I used a store bought hair dye. Still, hair loss can be caused by many things. You hear stories of yore when people caught scarlet fever and lost their hair from the fever. And I used to work with a woman who lost her hair due to a REALLY bad crash diet. It can happen for many reasons. But it's not inevitable.

    Bodybuilding after sleeve

I don't see why not. serious Body builders regularly undergo crash diets to reduce their total body fat % for competitions without managing to lose muscle mass. Not that I"d recommend that, it's not healthy. Still, I'm sure it's possible.
  3. More and more I'm convinced that I need WLS. I'm holding out for Thursday when I have a follow up appt with my primary doc, but in my heart I think I've already decided that I need to do this. I don't see any other way and I want to get it over with as quicky as possible. How long after you decided to get the surgery were you actually able to get it? Including insurance authorization and pre-op stuff. psych eval, nutrition classes, etc. I'm taking a couple college classes and I still have a couple months left to the semester and I wonder if I will be able to get the surgery before they finish. There are a lot of factors I realize, I'm just trying to plan whether I need to drop the classes and take them back up in the fall (which is certainly an option). It's strange, now that I've convinced myself to do this I'm also feeling quite nervous about it. Not nervous about complications or something. I want to get it over with. There's so much I want to do this summer and I don't want to spend it recovering from surgery.
  4. I haven't had surgery, but from what I understand, it doesn't tame "the beast" of our bad impuses, it just hobbles it or reduces it making it easier to overcome. So you're not wrestling a tiger anymore, just a bobcat. It's much easier to pin down, but you still have to wrestle it.

Doc says to increase my calories

If you need the calories, you need the calories. You don't want your body to think it's starving or it'll hold onto every last ounce. Maybe try some mashed potatoes? Or oatmeal? eggs? (I'm going to make deviled eggs when I get to that point. I make GREAT Deviled eggs) or maybe add a little fat. Try 2% milk instead of skim? Brown rice? maybe find a way to incorporate cheese into your diet? Good luck.
  6. This too shall pass. You'll come through surgery fine. You'll loose a lot of weight, and maybe it will encourage her. She's nervous and she's afraid, but I wouldn't be surprised if CHILDBIRTH had a higher mortality rate than these surgeries. It's not selfish for women to have children because they MIGHT die from complications. This is something you feel very strongly that you need to do for yourself. And she needs to know you will still love her even if she doesn't follow you into weight loss. She could also be a bit insecure thinking you'll become smoking hot and leave her. (I don't know your wife I'm just throwing out possibilities) My husband is skeptical but generally supportive. He's not even trying to talk me out of it becuase he doesn't consider himself to have any standing in this decision. It's MY decision and he'll support me. I've asked for his input and he just says "whatever you decide is okay with me". My mother is the one who's a worrier and I"m trying to get her as much information as possible so she can feel more comfortable about it. Give it your best heartfelt speech. That there is a small chance that you'll have complications in surgery, but SERIOUS complications in obesity is almost a sure thing over time. You don't seem that old and trust me you do not want to be in your 40s or 50s with all this weighing you down. It ONLY gets worse, never better. Good luck.

    I'm having second thoughts...

Oh no you don't sound ungrateful at all and I apologize if I came across as judgemental, I didn't understand where you were coming from initially. It's gonna be very hard. I haven't been sleeved yet but I"m already thinking of little things to lighten my mood when I know I'm going ot be REALLY cranky. The little things that make me happy, like bendy straws and mylar balloons, and popping bubble wrap (Therapudic bubble wrap. LOL!). I might buy my self flowers to keep at my desk at work. something bright and cheerful that will last for a while. I may get a pedicure if it's REALLY bad (never had one but I hear they're AWESOME). Find something, anything that makes you happy. Even a little bit. Something to distract you from telling yourself how miserable you are. Because that's just going to make you more miserable.

    I'm having second thoughts...

Oh. I thought she was on the pre-op diet or something. Well...kind of too late for second thought once the surgery is done. It's just a storm to weather at that point. But keep a stout heart. It's not forever.

I bought I vita mix blender today!!!!

Oh wow. That could really help me get my veggies in. If I can blend broccoli or cauliflower into soups that would be fantastic.

Why does yogurt make me hungry?

Huh. I've been wondering what the difference was between greek and regular yogurt. Thanks!

    I'm having second thoughts...

Nothing is going to change about your weight until you change. If you think you can make that change, bite that bullet, knuckle down and do it without surgery, then Bless you on your travels. If not, it is worth thinking about what you have to gain or lose by maintaining the status quo.
  12. What kind of pre-op diet are you on? I hear it varies from surgeon to surgeon. Man, that is tough though. The pre-op is when yo know it's really happening, and it's just the beginning. Good luck and hang tough.

I bought I vita mix blender today!!!!

That sounds really nice. I have a blender but it's really cheap and doesn't work very well. I was thinking about getting a magic bullet but maybe this would be even better. It looks really badass.
  14. Looking good! Congratulations and keep it up!

    keeping ur stomach?

There are likely legal implications to that. Once it's out of your body it's probably classified as bio-hazardous waste and you can't just have people walking around with biohazardous waste. I doubt they'd let you. There may be liability issues as well.
  16. Sounds a lot like gall stones. But you definately want to talk to your surgeon about it.
  17. The day I get surgery, I plan to take my bathroom scale and shove it in a closet. Unless my Dr. specificly requests me to track my weight, I really don't want to know (outside of doctor visits) how much I've lost. I'm done obsessing over the numbers. The only numbers I'm concerned with now are the numbers associated with my clothing size. If I"m losing, I'll notice it in my clothes. I hope my doctor doesn't ask me to weigh myself. Ugh.

    Food Funeral Thread

OH yah. Cadbury caramel egg. Qdoba. pizza. Fare thee well my dearly beloved treats. And let us eat, drink, and be merry. For tomorrow, we diet. (that needs to be my sig)
  19. Doing an all liquid diet on a complete stomach has got to be killer! Look at it this way, after surgery it'll PROBABLY be easier. Though still no cake walk. But I agree, the first 3 days are the worst of any restricted diet. I go through MAD sugar withdrawl but it does get better. Just remember, you have a liver to shrink for surgery. That's a big componant of the pre-op diet.
  20. Depends on how much you have to lose. The heavier you are, the more comes off at the beginning of any weight loss regimine. but you figure at least 10lbs of that is going to be Water weight and it's doable, but difficult. Good luck.
  21. I am looking forward to fitting in things: Theater seats, airplane seats, normal sized clothes, halloween costumes. It's hell being a plus sized person in a normal sized world. (doubly so being a plus sized person in the thinnest state of the union) I'm also looking forward to being able to DO more (withought the huffing and puffing): gardening, hiking, walking up hill, maybe even RUNNING! Wouldn't that be something? (and sure, really great sex with my beloved husband, but pass on the baby)
  22. UGH! I feel so conflicted. On one hand I'm finally on the path. My primary doc thought WLS was a great idea for me and is fully supportive so I called the bariatric center in my area and scheduled my first consultation. Bad news is I have to wait almost 3 WEEKS! OMG! just for the FIRST consultation! I have to find something to do to keep me from going crazy before then. I also learned that I"ve lost 10lbs in the last month. I don't know how I"ve been eating easter candy like it's my last chance. I've calculated how much I can afford to lose to maintain a BMI of 40+ but I want to start dieting NOW. I want to start eating better NOW. I have a liver to shrink!

    Strange Dreams

My CPAP pressure is finally right so I've been having awesome dreams. Last night I dreamed my surgeon was playing golf through the hospital as he was showing me around. He really needs to work on his putting. LOL!
  24. It's good to have these concerns in the back of your mind. It keeps you from being over-confident. It keeps you vigilent. But don't let it take up space in the fore-front of your mind or you might become over fearful and self-defeating. You will be fine. Don't believe it, know it. You will take good care of yourself because you want to. You're ready to.

    Orowheat sandwich thins

Sarah Lee also makes a good light whole wheat bread that's...I think...70 calories for 2 peices that makes a decent (if small) sandwich.
