  1. Well....it happened. I just received my third fill on Friday which brought me to 7.25cc in a 14cc band and wouldn't you know Saturday night as I transfered from fluids to mush I couldn't even get down a spoonful of soup. Tried like heck for 5 hours to try and get it to go down but to no avail had to call the docs and they drained my band. Said I have to rest my band for three weeks and then if all looks well they can start filling it again. Mortified of the though of ruining all the work I have done and praying that my weightloss won't be affected by the unfortunate set of events.
  2. Okay...I'm in. I've never done one of these before but I'd like to give it a try so here goes! Name, real or screen~ Jen Age~ 33 Weight on October 1st~ 267.8 Goal Weight for October 29th~ 250 Exercise Goal for October~ Get to the gym again planning on Wednesday, Friday & Sundays Dietary Goal for October~ stop picking and just sit down and eat Personal Goal for October~ Figure out how to incorporate my last year of Nursing school in with my new lap banded life style, because right now they are not working together so well Date Banded~ 5/26/2011 Total Weight Loss Since Banding~ 33lbs since banded in May 62lbs all together :-)
  3. It so great to see how many people are doing so wonderful. I was banded on May 24th so I just passed the 4 month mark. Since the surgery I have lost 43 pounds, 62 pounds all together and feel so much better then I did just a few short months ago! Last week I carried my four year old up a flight of stairs and he weighs about 49 pounds, I couldn't believe that I use to lug that around everyday just on my body.... I have had two fills, don't know how much because I'm trying to pay more attention to how I feel and not get so fixated on the numbers in my band. But I have not had a fill in almost two months and feel as though I may be in that "green zone". My goal is to loose 100 pounds by my 34th birthday (February) and feel like it may be reachable if I just keep my mind focused. I do go to the gym about 10-12 hours a week but now that Nursing school has started up again, I'm just trying to find my groove! Best of luck to all my fellow May bandsters, I can't wait to see how we all did at the one year mark! PS...the best part of today, I have realized that my BMI has dropped to the point where I would now need to have a comorbitiy just to have the surgery! What a great feeling.
  4. I love the fact that the hotel towel met at the edges this past weekend when we went to California. I love that instead of a red mark around my stomach caused by my waistband that when walking around the house my shorts had gotten so big that they just fell down to my ankles....lol time for some new clothes.
  5. So today, I pick up my son who is 4.5 years old, he weighed in at his last physical at 49.5 lbs (he is also 42" tall) and realized wow, I lost all this weight! What an amazing feeling!!!! I carried him up the stairs, and wow, couldn't believe that I use to lug around all that weight. So tonight I'm celebrating that I lost my son...or should I say 50 pounds! Now I'm going to work on loosing my 9 year old who weighs in at 62lbs.

    Post-op Challenges

The best feeling ever is the feeling of walking away from a food, knowing that you don't WANT it!
  8. This is so funny! This morning I yelled for my husband to come upstairs fast....he came running and yelling to know what was wrong....nothing I said, look the towel isn't leaving a gap anymore! Congrats to us!

    Hyperthyroidism..

YES! So don't worry, if you want the surgery, it can still happen. My surgery was canceled from it's original date because my hyperthyrodism went haywire. I think they are most concerned because our blood pressure and resting heart rate tend to be high and they have a harder time keeping it under control while we're under. My hyperthyrodism didn't have to be under control before the surgery, but the negative effects (my resting heart rate was always around 105) had to be under 90 before they would give me the okay. I was actually diagnosed because of the preop labs etc that are required and have been on 15mg of Methimazole once a day now for 2 months and didn't realize how crappy I felt and didn't even realize it. It's amazing what we contribute to being over weight. Now I have been banded since 5/26 and doing great! Good luck to you!
  10. I would be interested too. We are heading to California for labor day weekend...would love to set a goal!
  11. So today I just need to vent. I was banded May 26th :-) and have lost to date about 35 pounds (including loss from pre op diet) almost two weeks ago I started the "mush" stage and now I can't loose a single ounce. When I had my stiches out I weighed 289 and still the same today. I keep telling myself not to worry about it, it's all about the healing blah blah blah, but I need to see something happen on the scale, it's the only thing that keeps me motivated, I get so nervous that without even the slightest bit of success I will resort back to my old ways, but I have wanted this for so long. I don't have anything in my band as my surgeon doesn't do any fills until 6 weeks post op so my tool is not giving me anything to work with yet. I have to stay positive but I've only have a little left and it's running out of me fast. Thanks for listening my friends!

How to get back on track

I completely agree! I use fitday.com and write down every morsal that enters my mouth...sometimes your shocked to see how fast things add up when you thought it was just a "small bite"
  13. That is totally something to think about. I forgot, didn't want to know, whatever you want to call it, to take measurements prior to surgery, so I only have them now. But I have dropped 2 pant sizes and have gone to a 2x shirt from a 4x as well and that alone speaks volumes! It was a great feeling going out to get some shorts and asking the girl to find them in a smaller size. I look forward to the day being able to walk into any store and no that they will have my size! Sorry old navy your about to loose a "BIG" customer!
  14. WOW...that's all I can say! What wonderful people you all are, thank you for your words of encouragement. I am going to take everyone's advice; hide the scale, drink lots of waters and focus on learning the new techniques and we'll see what happens in a month.

    Hyperthyroidism..

Not sure if you have already gotten your surgery, but I have HYPERTHYROIDISM as well. I was actually diagnosed a few weeks before my surgery after a iodine uptake test. Like you I am on methimazole as well, and don't want the radioactive iodine because of it's risks to fertility. I already have two children, but am young and not ready to completley say adios to my fertility. My doctor didn't have a problem doing the surgery with the hyperthyroidism but wouldn't do it unless the "symptoms" of the disease were under control (I have trouble keeping my heart rate under 90). Because of that my surgery was postponed from May 12th to May 26th. Now I am banded, and dealing with the struggles of that and the struggles of having an overactive thyroid. Keep your chin up, I think it might have been smarter to have the thyroid under control first, then you only have to focus on the new banded you!

    Pre op diet day 7....help!

We weren't told "not" to have soda, we were told diet was okay, but that the carbination might upset our stomaches. I'm sure you'll be fine, but maybe switch to something else anyways.
  18. Carnation instant breakfest no sugar added (in the blue box) has 7 grams of protein, I mix on packet with my scoop of GNC double chocolate whey protein (24 grams of protein), put in freezer for 10 minutes and it's great!!! Litteraly, in five or so ounces I have just got down 31 grams of protein, only two shakes a day and I've made my doctor proud. (this was suggested by my nutritionist by the way)

    Confusing stomach feelings

We were told we could have soup that was cream based with no chunks in it, I bought some of those campbells soup at hand that you just drink from the cup so I don't think you cheated to badly
  20. I love califlower!!! Something different that I have changed up a bit that my grandmother always use to make...take a little low fat or ff mayo, mix with some spicy mustard or whatever kind you like, sprinkle with parm cheese and mix. Becomes a sauce for the califlower and it is so good.

    Pre op diet day 7....help!

I put a sign on my fridge and pantry that says "Nothing tastes as good as think will feel" and it has truely helped me. I hear your pain, I am an avid coke drinker (won't even admit to how much per day) and had the worst headache when I went cold turkey. Switch to diet for a week then go to no soda...worked great for me, because the headaches are caffine withdrawl.

    Any May 2011 Banders?

Keeping my fingers crossed for banding on Thursday! Have a little tickle in my throat and a tiny runny nose from allergies....hope that doesn't cause a problem. Would be very disapointed to get canceled, since I was canceled on the 12th for complications from my hyperthyroid. Plus, I have been on pre op liquid diet since May 2nd....not sure how much longer I have the will power to go.

    Any May 2011 Banders?

I have been drinking the GNC whey double chocolate....not to bad. I think the trick is to blend it in something and make sure it's cold

    Any May 2011 Banders?

Well as of today I am starting try two! I was scheduled to have surgery on May 12th and one week into the liquid diet it was canceled. I am hyper thyroid and my heart rate was out of control so they put me on new medications and rescheduled my date for May 26th! Very excited to be starting the liquid diet again today because that means surgery is getting closer. Good luck to all of us as we begin our new journey!
  25. Just found out today that because of my overactive thyroid they will be rescheduling my surgery. Very upset, half way through the pre-op diet and will have to start all over again next week. It's for the best don't want to get in the OR and my heart rate skyrockets and something goes seriously wrong. But at the same time, hard to get emotionally prepared for something like this and have it fall through....for now.
