  1. So I went for my first monday, they couldnt find my port, it was too deep. So they rescheduled me for Today. IT had to be done at the hoptial and with "live" xray. They had me lay on the xray table and cleaned my belly, numbed it, then she put the needle in they took an xray and it wasnt in place so she moved it, and they didnt that about 15 different times. I have a crazy amount of needle holes and my belly is so tender. But after getting the needle in place they roatated the table where I was nearly standing. It was a speical table. She put in the saline, and then they took more pictures. Then they had me drink the white chalky crap and took another picture. It was really neet I could see my band and see the stuff backed up inmy throat. and I could see how the food or liquid would have to go thru the band. It really helped me understand how and why this works. And the importance of not eating and drinking at the same time. And not overeating. It was a little nerve racking, I was scared. but it was fine in the end. And it didnt hurt. Im happy with my fill, I dont feel any different on the "inside" or anything but I am super happy im not hungery every 2 hours. I started getting hungery like ever 2 to 2.5 hours last thursday. So I was completely ready for this! I would talk more about it but I super tired. So if you have any questions please ask, I will asnwer anything. I would rather answer with what I know and have been thru then you be nerves or scared becaue you dont know whats going to happen.

First fill, couldnt find my port, and to do it at hosptial

For me no, it was not painful it didnt hurt. But it is scarey. People moving all around, there were three people in the room crowed around me looking and poking. The xray guy and my doctor and a student she was teaching. They numbed up my skin, I dont know if all doctors do that.

First fill, couldnt find my port, and to do it at hosptial

Hopefully no. My doctor passed the port deeper under my fat or water that way it wont stick out when I loose weight. She said it was somthing she started doing because some peopel were unhappy with loosing weight and then the port being able to be seen thru the skin. But I was too heavy for her to fill the port this time, I expect next time if I need another to not be as heavy hopefully, so the answer the question, No I dont think so.

    Spouses

I had my lapband done almost three full weeks ago. At the beginning of week three I started stage three. So I was having things that were a little more solid. I was trying fish and it wasnt going down very easy. It was going down just not smoothly. I chewed a little better and tried it again. It was just kinda sitting there, so I pushed my food away and I sat there politely hoping that feeling would pass. What I havent said was my husband and his buddy and I were out to dinner at a local place. I sat there for a few minutes and then stupidly and blindly reached over and took a sip of my water. That very second I knew I was in trouble it was the first time something was going to come back up. So I sat there for a second and then thought I better go to the restroom. So I excused myself and made it to the restroom but as soon as I hit that door it came up. Thank god the restroom was empty. Everything was fine it was just the water. I surely expected more the come back up but whatever. So I waited a few to make sure I was fine and went back to the table. My husband and his buddy were laughing but I didnt think anything about it. They got quite and then kept on talking. Oh did I mention this was suppose to be date night, but he invited his friend anyway. So needless to say I already felt out of place, and now I was upset with myself and a little shaking up because that had never happened before. But being Im not a crybaby I put on the brave face and acted normal. After they finished eating we left, and as soon as we got outside my husband busts out laughing talking about how red my face got and he started makign fun of me. I was really upset but didnt want to show my ass infront of this other guy. I told him it wasnt funny and that it scared me but then he just laughed even more, saying everyone throws up I should just get over it. Then we go to the movies. I have to sit there between the two of them PISSED OFF for two hours. So then we leave and get home, I havent said anything the whole time. The guy says bye and gets in his car to leave. My husband and I go inside. I swear to god I didnt even get all the way in the house before he starts up again. About how funny it was, how he knew because my face turned red. He didnt even care if I was okay, didnt even care after I told him it wasnt funny again, He still didnt care as I started to cry. I left the room and he was still giggling to himself. Then I lost it, I was in another room crying and he had yet to even really ask me if I was okay. My husband is not a jerk so I dont understand why he acted like that. His excuse was because Im so open about it and I will talk to people about my surgery openly he didnt see a problem with him telling his buddy I was throwing up. No, I kinda didnt have a problem with that. I had a problem with them, mainly him laughing at me. And on and off for over three hours! I just dont know what to do. Now I wont eat around him. Im scared myself anyway, but now I dont trust him.

    What is/was your pre-op diet?

My doctor asked me to lose 10lb before she would even request for the surgery, that was pretty easy because I hda already changed my eating habits and was making very very slow weight loss. I restricted what I was eating down to like 500 calories for a couple of weeks and made that. But then I had no preop diet until the day before surgery. The day before surgery I was to eat a reguarl breakfast and then at noon take a bowel cleaner, which honestly didnt nothing to me. (TMI) I spend the next four hours not wanting to get out of site of the bathroom but it wasnt until like 10pm that I even pooped and it wasnt anything special just a normal trip to the restroom. No water after midnight, except for a small sip to take a pill that was unrelated to the surgery. I was told to stop taking all other vitimans and pills that were not that one a week before surgery. That was it.
  7. I havent really had hard time giving anything up. I started slowly changing my eating habits about a year ago. And by six months ago I was eating like a dietians dream, but I was still heavy enough to need the help. My problem is bad food. Its eating too much. I went from eating a whole lb of steak to eat a whole lb of shrimp. Way better for you, but not very good for loosing weight. I lost a good amount of weight before surgery other wise Im not sure my surgeon would have let me even have the lapband. Im still just a little over a week ago from surgery so Im sure I will want something sooner or later that isnt good for me. Thats why I got the lapband to begin with. I needed to restriction to keep me on the right path.

    Day 3 after surgery.

I am five days post op and I am just getting to the point where eating is not a chore. But I am still not getting in as much Protein as a should and Im sure I need to be eating more. I know I am not getting enough Water in. Not anywhere close to finishing a whole bottle in one day which is 32 oz. Let alone getting two in like before surgery. But its baby steps. And at day three I can tell you for sure I was not eating as much as I am today. As you feel better and get up and more around more you will want to eat more. Its simple, your food is your energy. So when you get up and more around you burn energy meaning you will need more. Just stick to what your doctors say to eat. I would assume they say Protein drinks and Clear Liquids. chicken broth, beef broth, I have muslce milk, ensure, special k protein drinks, slim fast. and then of course you can always add more protein to your protein drinks to help get in more. Sounds like you are just fine. Good luck.

    Oh the Horror!

Heres how I see it....Im 26 years old. Lets just say I remember stuff from being 6 years old and on. That gives me 20 years of memories. In 20 years thats 7300 days....I dont remember or talk about every single one of those days. But I do remember the day I broke my arm. I remmber the day I lost my best friend, I remmber the day I busted my ass on the diving board. Its a well known fact that its way easier to remember the bad stuff. So is true with the news. You will always hear about the earthquakes, and fires, murders, and unemployment. And you will here a few stories about the good. And the stories about the bad will always stick with you it easier to remember the bad. The worse it is the easier it is to remmber the bad. So in a round about way what im trying to say is you will always hear the bad, but there is always good behind you. What you really need to do is tune everything about expect what your doctor and their staff tells you. And if you are worried about what they are saying get a second opinion....dont let someone elses ignorance hurt you mentally or physically.

    Co2 gas pain

How long did you Co2 gas pain last? I had my husband take me to the ER yesterday when I went from find to gasping for air in a matter for 30 minutes....I figured the worst because I was almost five days out from surgery and didnt think it could still be gas bubbles. Even the doctor in the ER was shocked when my CT scan showed a couple of very large bubbles trapped behind my diaphram and not a internal bleed or a blood clot in my lungs. Now one thought it could still be bubbles and the on set so so fast....Of course my surgeon couldnt be contacted for whatever reason so there was no explainion from her or her staff. Im totally fine expect for the fact that 12 hours later Im still breathing only half way and cant walk very fast because the pain of breath is HORRIBLE! So I had sugery on Monday morning 7am, have been fine..nothing wrong getting stronger everyday. And then at about 4pm on Friday I went from fine to gasping in about 15 minutes. Werid or not that uncommon???

    Co2 gas pain

OH MY GOSH! YES! This is it. And I too had a hiatal hernia repair. I also think some people dont understand there is a difference in the co2 used durning surgery and normal "fart" ass. I work in the medical field myself, Emergency Med. to be more specific so when I started getting the toe curling pain and the on set was with in 30 minutes I thought for sure I had a bleed. Its very scary when you truely understand some of the words that come out of the mouth of TWO emergency room doctors standing over you. I was trying to keep myself calm and explaining to my husband what was going to happen when we go to the hosptial. I giggle to myself remember what my husband face looked like when we got there. I got one sentence out before the guy in the ER said "Hold on once sec" I said to him, I had surgery on Monday and about 30.....(breath)...... minutes ago I started.....Then he was gone and a nurse came out to get me. I didnt even sit down. I laugh now, but its very scary nowing that I was lucky. Most of the time someone presenting the sypmtoms I had are normally have something much more worse going on.

    Co2 gas pain

I wish mine was as "simple" as watching what I eat. I however have gas that is not trapped in my stomach, or can be burped(or farted) out. The Co2 the used during surgery has moved from my belly area to be trapped behind my diaphram. The doctor has no explainion for it and I will have to wait for my doctor to get in the office on Monday. I guess they dont run an emergency line at my surgeons office. The air will absorb into my blood over time and come out as I normally exchange oxygen in my lungs. Bad part is....lord knows how long that will take considering where it is trapped.
  13. Does anyone else think they can feel the band inside them. I mean like when you burp or pass gas or something. Not like though the skin. I swear when I get the hicups or burp I can feel the band inside me. Like its bumping up against something. I dont know its hard to explain. I get hicups all the time and its horrible, its not real horrible pain but it sure does stop me in my tracks. If Im trying to talk I have to stop its almost like my breath was just swept away. Also if I dont eat. Im just three days out from surgery but if I havent had any Protein drinks in a few hours I have the same feeling. Am I crazy?

    oweeee

I had my lapband three days ago and I have the same thing. My left side hurts way worse then my right. Maybe its the way our bodies are made, they have to do a little more moving around on the left. I have more cuts on the left side two. Two on the left, one almost center below my boobs, and one to the right. And then my port was put it just above my belly button to the left. Im not worried about it, since I have more holes on that side I figure more "damage" was done to that side and it is needing the extra time to heal.
  15. So my surgery is tomorrow. My husband and I are going to drive down tonight to spend the night in a hotel next to the hosptial. Its a two hour drive and one I dont want to wake at 1 in the morning to just be hungry for the next six hours, and two I dont want to have something happen like traffic or wreck whatever. But my question is with me having surgery at 7 in the morning will I have to spend the night in the hosptial. How many of you had surgery and were released that day, or had surgery and didnt go home that day....No one seems to have an answer for me.

My surgery is tomorrow my ? is....

Thank you for all the replies. I actually was so freaked out before surgery I didnt even check this post again, until just now. We spent the night in the hotel across from the hosptial and went in a 5am. We were released about 13 hours. We left a little after 6pm and i couldnt wait to go home. The ride wasnt bad, I slept on and off. We even stopped at a store on the way home to pick up some of the stuff they feed me at the hosptial. I was afraid I wouldnt eat what we had at home. Anyway, Thank you and I hope everyone is doing good.
  17. I just had surgery yesterday, so those fears are still very much real for me. I cried all night long begging my husband to take me home. We drove up and spent the night in the hotel. I was soooo tired, frightened, worried, pissed...anything you can think of I was it. And it didnt get any better when I got to the hosptial the next morning. But you know what. Im fine. My husband is fine. Im home and happy. I farted for the first time a few minutes ago and i thought i was going to die it was the most painful fart ever. Just from the pushing of my muscles I guess. I cant believe I was soooo worried. I couldnt be more pleased with how everything went.

Preop Diet, Not sure if this is right

Ive lost about 10 lbs in the last month and about 15 since Christmas, that might be why they didnt ask me to do a preop diet. As far I the Mag citrate is just like the Honk said its to get as much out of the way as possible. I didnt know the preop diet was for reducing the size of the liver, I thought it had something to do with the stomach itself. I really dont like this girl at the desk, and she is really the only one to talk to besides the doctor herself. Like I said I really like to doctor she seems very smart and has a nice long record. I even asked her one time why she has choosen to do WLS and her response was because she knows she is changing peoples live. She gets to see them come into the office and gets to see the outcomes. rather then just fixing someones knee and then never seeing them again. Im pretty restricted on surgeons in my area that does WLS and takes my insurance. I was not wanting to switch but if I did it would have been all because of the receptionist. Ive got a couple of ladies Ive met that see the same doctor and they say the same thing about the one girl. Makes me kinda giggle to myself to think Im not the only one that thinks duche under their breath. Thank you for the responses.
  20. Hi, Im new. This site was recommended by a friend who had WLS but not the band. So Im hoping there will be great advice here. Okay so my question is, I just found out my surgery is on the 28th. Yes one week away, And Ive been told to eat like I have normally, as in my good healthy food, The day before surgery eat a normal breakfast and at noon take 1.5oz of Mag Citrate. Have nothing but a clear liquid diet for the rest of the day and nothing after midnight execpt for a tiny sip of water in the morning to take my one med with. I have NEVER heard of anything like this. EVeryone always talks about their 1 or 2 week long pre op diet. I always have my questions about the desk staff at my surgeon's office, and I dont know if I should question this. I like my surgeon she seems to be very smart, but this duche, yes I said duche, behind the counter/high and mighty phone answerer Im not sure about....Has anyone else heard of such a preop diet?
