Sorry to hear about your loss. I think Dave is right. You'll just keep getting healthier and healthier. God bless.
  2. That is great! Your posts have encouraged and helped me a lot. I am so happy for you! Hope to join you some day.

    Hello, new gal here

Ihad Cigna and they insist on a Dr. supervised program. You have to see your Dr. once a month for 6 months and you can't miss a month or you have to start over. It passes fast though. It's been a great experience so far.

Help, I am so confused :(

I had a BMI of 53 and one month after surgery I'm down to a BMI of 49. A had a very easy surgery and my surgeon didn't think twice about doing it. I think you'll be fine. Sand I'm 56, so not that far from your age.
  5. I'm about 4 weeks post-op and all my incisions are healing well. The largest one, over the port, still has a noticeable hump or swelling. Is that normal at this point? How long did it take your swelling to disappear over the port?
  6. No, it's not red or hot. It was like that 2 weeks ago when the surgeon saw it and he was pleased. I just though it would have gone down more by now.
  7. I lost about 25 lbs the first 30 days post-op. I've lost about 35 altogether. This morning it seems my digital scale has died. Sigh. Now I won't know where I'm at. But most of the weight loss was due to the protein shakes and liquids for 4 weeks. Just holding my own since I started mushies. I have not had a fill yet. I'm thankful though that I'm not very hungry.

    REAL FOOD AGAIN!!!

I'm off mushies in a few days. I've tried a few things just to see and they've gone down fine as long as I chew enough to turn them into mushies before they go down. I'm pretty wide open. Should get a fill in a couple of weeks. The great thing is I haven't been hungry. That is making a huge difference for me.

    Center of Excellence

I also went o a Center of Excellence, St. Josephs in Orange, CA. It was also very informative with a team of experts at my disposal. For example, I can have a once a month personal meeting with my nutritionist for the rest of my life for free. I meet with my surgeon every time I go there. I had no pain from incisions and almost no gas pain. I'm very happy with how they did everything. It's worth seeking one out.
  10. Labor Day s almost here. I'm 3 weeks post op on mushies now. Usually I'd either BBQ or smoke something for everyone. Trying to think of a mushy food for either, but coming up blank. Not really eating meat yet unless it's canned. Any ideas?

    Barbecue or Smoker Mushies?

I think I'm going to smoke some pulled pork, Mac and cheese and a pot of beans. I've done the first two before and they are great. Never tried smoking beans but I hear you can so I'm going to try. Can I eat Mac N cheese in mushie stage? It is mushIe. LOL. I haven't had any pasta yet, but I seem to be wide open so I don't think it will get stuck at this point. Small portions of each, of course.

    Barbecue or Smoker Mushies?

I wasn't told I could eat meat yet, but pulled pork that's juicy might work if I chop it up fine. I Don't think I really have any restriction at all at this point.

    Feeling lonely

This is quite strange. I had separate appointments with each of these people for an hour each. I also would suggest you look for a center of excellence. The difference is night and day from what you've gone through. You're going to need these people for years to come, so you want someone you'll be comfortable with.
  15. Double chin is about gone just 2 weeks post op. They told my I lose from top to bottom. Guess they were right.
  16. I Didn't have to answer question like that. It was more of a conversation. I worried for nothing.
  17. I'm almost 2 weeks out and I just want to say that it's been way easier than I had expected. The surgery isn't painful. Incisions never hurt. The gas was managed well. Listened to everybody saying on this forum to walk, so I did, and it really helped. I get to eat mushiess on Tuesday. Can't wait.

    BAND VS. SLEEVE

I had Cigna. They require 6 months of supervised dr visits. If you miss one month you have to start over. You have to show an exercise plan, 5 years of weight records(1 for each year). You have o attend to support groups, see a nutritionist ad ave a psych evaluation. Seems like a lot but the time goes quickly.
  19. I never had incision pain, peanut. My gas pain lasted about 3 days and then started going away pretty fast. I never got it in my chest or shoulders, just in the stomach area the more active I was, the faster the gas left. I didn't like getting up every hour, but now I'm glad I did.
  20. It gets better everyday. Keep as active as you can. Walk around your house. Get up every hour during the day. That expels the gas which is most likely your pain. you only want clear liquids and the protein shakes. Broth, sugar free popsicles and jello are your friend right now. And lots of water.

    Calling all A11s!!

Good luck, ncgg-5. Just keep as active as you can and you'll feel better faster.

    New here, 5 days post-op!

Best of luck! Just try to stay as active as you can. The more mobile you are, the faster the gas seems to go. Even waving your hands above your head seems to help.
