  1. Does anyone else have to give themselves shots after the surgery? I can't remember what they are called but they are to prevent blood clots. Pretty big needle too...I hope I can do it!

They have me doing shots for seven days, it's not bad at all, I promise. I am a giant chicken and I'm doing it with no problem. They had me do the first one myself at the hospital to make sure I could handle it and it was no more than 3 seconds and hurt much less than a bee sting. Easy, least, just don't over think it!

  2. Hi guys! Greetings from band land! I got banded on 7/6 and was home by noon the next day. Operation went very well, only three incisions and they all feel OK. Gas pains are sucky but walking does make it better. I'm super glad my two boys are spending the week with my parents, there is no way I could have taken care of them when I got back yesterday. If you have children and an option for extended childcare, I would greatly suggest it as you are going to need a little time to heal. I can't really keep down much more than Water at this point (ice chips really) so I'm going to try putting other things in ice trays ( juice, Protein Shakes, etc.). Overall feeling OK, just looking forward to a full recovery soon and my boys coming home :)

I hope all our 7/6 & 7/7 bandsters have done well and good luck to everyone else!

  3. Nechama, it is great to hear from you and I'm so glad you are doing so well!

Tammy and Aly, so sorry you had such bad days! I'll be on pre-op starting July 5th and will be joining you guys in the struggles. I feel lucky my doc is only making me do 10 days instead of his usual 14!

How is everyone else doing on their pre-ops?

I have to say it's been tough but somehow today was easy breezy (day 7). Hang in there it gets better...eventually. I'm still constipated but other than that much better today. My mom suggested I sip warm liquids ( clear broth, tea) to help with the hunger pains and I think that's what really made today better. Four more days to go! Still have to get through our mini holiday and July forth festivities at my parents but I kinda feel like it will be easier from now on . Good luck to everyone! I love reading this post everyday!

  4. I need to have 2-3 shakes and a small (no carb) meal per day. That's it! She said no adding fruit to my shakes (meanie) and sugar free Jello only if I need it (I need it). I have my son's birthday party on Sunday and a mini vacation for 4th of July but I gotta stick with it! I'm heading out later today to look at getting other shakes and add some variety. I'm excited though...looking forward to a new me!

My surgery date is July 6th too! :) It's coming up so soon! This is the third day of my pre op Protein Shake diet. Wednesday and Thursday I was a miserable person lol... the shakes made me gag, and I was not a happy camper. But I started to experiment with the shakes a little by adding some cinnamon and sugar (counting calories for them still of course!), strawberries, frozen rasberries, Peanut Butter (95 calories for 1 tbs) and it has made a WORLD of a difference. We'll get through this... only 11 more days! What are the requirements of your pre op diet? Good luck... we got this in the bag! :)
