Ok so I know this is not a Lap Band topic, but I'm looking for some help. I have RLS (aching, itching legs, muscle cramps, can't sleep, etc). I have been taking Mirapex for some time now. It seems to really help. But one of the side affects is weight gain. Since I started taking it, my appetite increased and I definitely did gain weight. Now since I"ve been banded, I'm afraid of taking it, but without it I can't sleep. I was wondering if anyone else suffered from RLS and could give me some advice on other medications or options. Thank you so much!!!

My first experience getting food stuck
stevenjoec replied to Ivernous's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So experiences of being "stuck" are different than what I keep reading. I'm assuming what I'm experiencing is being "stuck", but I'm not sure. I tried to eat a french fry b/c a friend of mine who is banded said she can't eat them. I tried chewing it really well and in a few moments I could feel this tightness in my chest and it felt like I was going to throw up. The only difference is, I never do. I never have anything come up. This has happened a couple of times now. I sit there and take deep breaths and after a few moments it goes away. Last night, I was laying in bed and I realized I forgot to take my medicine before i went to bed. So I just sat up in the bed and took the pill (it's small and I break it in half). I immediately felt a problem...just like being stuck. I couldn't lay down. I was so uncomfortable....miserable!!! The interesting thing for me is that I take pills during the day sometimes and have no problems. I'm assuming my problem was that I was not standing when I took the pill. This uncomfortable feeling seemed to last forever. I got on this website looking for a solution. I read where someone said to mix lemon juice and meat tenderizer and Water. So I did....it helped, about 30 min to an hour later. Valuable lesson learned about taking pills!!!! -
1st fill on Monday......
stevenjoec replied to stevenjoec's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You read my mind!!! At this moment I keep thinking "what do I need to eat that I'll never have again?" That's the same thing I did before my surgery. I had several "last suppers". I'm dreading the fill because I"m going to be out of town and now I find out I'm going to be on liquids....its rough. Ok, so I'm being a little whiny right now!!!! -
What should I expect? I've been able to eat just about anything and everything I want for the past 2 weeks...which has NOT been good!!!! Old habits kicking in!!! Someone please tell me it will get better after the fill????

stevenjoec replied to stevenjoec's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the info! So is the liquid diet for 2 days typical after a fill? -
Anyone ever used Syntha 6? I have a friend that's a huge health freak and he says this is the best protein shake on the market. Just wondered if anyone else had tried it.

stevenjoec replied to jennielee82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm right there with you guys!! I was banded on 3/15 and I have had my doubts since then!!!! What the heck was I thinking?? I just have to keep reminding myself that its a long term process and my overall health and longevity was worth it. But, damn I want a hamburger and fries!!!! lol. Hang in there, it will get better......i hope!!!! Anyone got food ideas besides baked potatoes and mashed potatoes and cream of what!!! I'm so bored with that!!!! -
Tomorrow is my two week post op doctor's appt. Can anyone give me insight on what to expect? Is it simply looking at my incisions? What have you all experienced?

2 Week Post Op Dr. Appt
stevenjoec replied to stevenjoec's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just had my appt. Little disappointed. I don't know what I was expecting though. The nurse weighed me, doctor looked at my incision's, and scheduled me for my first fill in about 4 weeks. I guess I wanted a "talk". You know...."how are you doing?" "Whats troubled you the most" "What can I help you with?" Maybe I need a psychiatrist for that lol. But, then again, I have all of YOU to help me with that!!!! lol -
2 Week Post Op Dr. Appt
stevenjoec replied to stevenjoec's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ok so thats disappointing to hear. lol. I don't know what I'm expecting ,but i guess more than that!! I guess we'll see in a little while. -
Rachel....I was banded on 3/15. I was reading your post thinking.....omg, thats me!! I want a burger so bad. I want some pizza!!! I am almost to the point where I can eat soft foods...mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, pudding, etc. I can't wait. lol. I can't imagine eating puree'd chicken which is one of the things suggested. That sounds disgusting!! But, seriously, hang in there. As frustrating as it is, you will make it. I just try to stay busy and not watch tv because all commercials are about food!!! Even though I haven't had a fill, i haven't been as hungry as I would have been pre-band. I don't know why, but I don't. Hang in there Rachel.....this too shall pass!!!!

I am only in week 2 of my 5 week post op diet. I don't know if I can make it 3 more weeks without eating "real food." I am so tired of chicken broth, puree'd potato Soup, gatorade, and cream of wheat. I'm really at a point where I'm regretting my decision to have surgery!! Not good in week 2 I know!!! I'm just so frustrated with the same thing every day. It seems like each day just drags by. I don't look forward to coming home and having a nice meal because I don't get to have one. I know when i see the weight coming off I will be glad I did it, but right now I feel like whining and complaining a little bit!! lol. I really am just frustrated with it all at this point and I needed to vent!! Thanks for listening!!

What does sliming mean/feel like and other FAQ's
stevenjoec replied to Alison I's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I posted a HELP message last night.......It took about 30 minutes of non-stop dry heaving for me to feel better. I was in tremendous pain. So now I need some help trying to figure out what might have caused it so it doesn't happen again!!!! I was banded on 3/15. So i'm in week 2 and I've been eating nothing but chicken broth. Last night I decided to try some egg drop Soup. I thought I was doing well with it, but I'm afraid that might be what caused it. Does anyone think that if I swallowed a piece of egg it would have caused that? I tried chewing them up, but I guess it's possible I didn't. Should I not eat egg drop soup at this stage of recovery? Any help or suggestions would be MORE than appreciated!! Last night really scared me!! Thank you!! -
What does sliming mean/feel like and other FAQ's
stevenjoec replied to Alison I's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Someone help me please. I don't know if this is sliming or not, but Im miserable right now. I don't know whats going on. I have a tightness just below my sternum and I feel like something is stuck in my throat or somewhere. I can't lay down. I'm uncomfortable. I feel like I need to throw up ,but nothing will come up. I'm miserable. Can anyone give me some advice!!!! -
Ok, someone please help me b/c I'm freaking out a little. I was banded on 3/15. I have been feeling what I thought were just little bumps on different parts of my body. Today I can actually see them....they are on my shoulders, my chest, my stomach, and who knows where else. Anyone else had a rash like this? It's not red or anything, just bumps. Any suggestions? I itch a lot too!!

When does the "losing" start?
stevenjoec replied to Nadea77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so confused. I lost 18 pounds the first 5 days after surgery. Now, I've gained a pound a day for two days now. What the heck??? I was hoping to lose about 30 pounds while I'm on this crappy liquid diet. I just started eating cream of wheat yesterday. I don't want to put that 18 back on!! I guess I need to heed the advice of staying off the scales huh?? lol. I'm just really frustrated at this point. I'm starving, but I'm so worried about gaining the weight back!!! -
back to work Monday
stevenjoec replied to Grammy271's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Grammy.....I live in Georgia as well. I was banded on 3/15. I'm scheduled to go back to work tomorrow as well, but I'm thinking about staying out a little longer. I just don't feel real well. I travel with my job and I"m on my feet a lot throughout the day. I'm afraid I'm gonna over do it and be down. I haven't felt well yesterday and today. I think I'm so sick of liquids that I'm somewhat depressed. Tomorrow is day 6 and I think I'm gonna go ahead and start Cream of Wheat. I've lost 18 pounds since my surgery Tuesday and I"m very excited about that....but I'm just frustrated with the post op diet!! Ok, now I'm just whining....Sorry. -
when do they remove the surgical tape?
stevenjoec replied to Pammy S Lewis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have any strips or surgical tape. I was able to shower the next day also. My stitches are on the inside and my doctor sealed the outside puncture wounds with medical super glue. Anyone else had this? -
1st post, needing some post op emotional support
stevenjoec replied to Pammy S Lewis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Pam......don't worry. It gets better! I had my surgery the same day as you. I still have the pains below my sternum when I drink something too fast. My Dr. said to only drink 1 oz of liquid every 5 minutes. If I do more than that, I can tell. But, I take a deep breath and it helps with the pain. I also use a pillow every time I get up. I squeeze it and it helps me get up or move around. Kinda like a security blanket. lol. I'm feeling much better now. The thing that has helped me has waking up and getting on the scales. I'm down 17 pounds since surgery. Thats my motivation each day. As far as the walking, don't try walking to far. Try to stay around the house and walk. It will help with the gas. Don't try and do it alone. Have a support system with you!!! But, hang in there, you're gonna do great!!! -
First week aftersurgery
stevenjoec replied to momnear40's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Question for you all...... I am only 4 days post op myself. I have had nothing but chicken broth, gatorade and a little bit of water since surgery. My doctor told me I needed things with sugar in it this week to keep my energy level up. I can also have fruit juice popsicles. My question is what would ice cream do? If you eat it slowly, would it cause harm at this point? -
Day 3 and water feels stuck!
stevenjoec replied to momnear40's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When you say Soup, do you mean just broth?? I fortunately haven't had any problems with liquids so far. But I do notice if I take too big of a sip or if I take too much at once. It gets really tight right below below my sternum. -
I'm looking so forward to cream of wheat, I think it may be my breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I'm so ready for some real food!! lol. All of these food commercials are driving me crazy!!

I am 2 days post op. I had alot of itching right after surgery. I am itching alot now, but its on all of my injection sites......where the super glue is. I want to peel it off so bad!!! Driving me crazy!
