I was very happy to have a great bowl movement yesterday morning and be down 3 lbs overnight. All that fiber must be helping. We are heading too disneyland today, hoping I'm up for it we planned this trip months ago, before I thought about having surgery. I rented a scooter so that I don't wear myself out. Can't wait to go back when I'm skinny and in shape.

Tomorrow will be my one week bandaversary. So far so good, still some pains in my lower stomach, not sure if it's muscles or intestines or what. First night last night that I didnt take any pain meds, some soreness in my belly when I turn over and laying in my left side. Haven't taken anything during the day for a few days. We were out and about yesterday and I had a little chili and cheese at sonic and some refried beans at a mexican restaurant, I chewed them both really well and didn't eat much. Smoothies and blended soups have been my staple so far. I do a fruit smoothie in the morning, apple, strawberries, blueberries, spinach, kefir and protein powder and in the evening I do a chocolate protein powder, banana, almond butter, kefer and/or greek yogurt, almond milk and flax seeds. Bought a blendtec so it's really smooth, no chunks.

I only had to have Clear liquids the first day, I can have broccoli and cheese Soup, just need to blend it first.

Mine's getting a little better, used the baby Mylicon and the gas strips, and of course lots of walking.

Copying and Pasting from my the Guide my Dr gave me: To ensure proper healing you must stay on an all liquid diet for the first week after your surgery. The liquid diet is a temporary diet. It helps to keep your body hydrated (body fluids, salts, and minerals) and helps to get the body used to food after surgery. The liquid diet is easy to digest and does not leave much residue in the stomach and intestines. If you are lactose intolerant or have problems with dairy products you may substitute rice milk, soy milk or almond milk products instead. For added protein, prepare soups and cereals with non-fat milk or plain soy milk instead of water; or add non-fat dry milk or protein powder to your foods. The table below will help you with your choices. Sample Liquid Diet These are simply suggestions. You don't need to include all these items in one meal. Breakfast Light Smooth Yogurt Lunch Cream of tomato soup, Jell-O with low calorie whipped topping Snack Smooth yogurt Dinner Blended cream of broccoli soup, sugar-free pudding, non-fat milk. Snack Sugar-free Fudgesicle There is no limit on the quantity of liquids you may have at this point although you should begin to sip slowly and stop at the first hint of fullness. It is very important not to vomit during the healing phase. If you are hungry have another cup of soup, Jell-O, pudding, or yogurt. The limitation is on the consistency of the food, not the quantity. Anything you can drink through a straw is fair game at this point. Soups with large chunks need to be blended or strained. It is very important to do your best to stick to the liquid diet at this point. Don't forget to take your daily chewable multivitamin. Weeks 1 & 2 & 3• The Liquid Diet Choose These Foods/Beverages Avoid These Foods/Beverages Fruits/Juices Flavored water, fruit juices without pulp such as apple juice, grape juice, cranberry juice, and nectars. Use low sugar versions. Canned, fresh, or frozen fruits. All raw fruit, dried fruit (dates, raisins), coconut. Do not use carbonated or sweetened beverages. Soups Broth, bouillon, fat-free consommé or strained cream soups. Tomato soup made with milk or water. Soups with vegetables, noodles, rice, meat, or other chunks of food in them. Strain these items from the soup and blend them or just have the broth. Avoid bean, gumbo, split pea, or onion soup, chunky soups and chowders. Beverages Ice chips, water, coffee, tea, herbal teas (hot or cold); sugar-free Kool-Aid, Crystal Light, Gatorade, Propel, Diet Snapple. Add sugar free flavorings as desired. All others. No carbonated beverages (including diet pop). No alcohol. Sweets & Desserts Fruit ices (without chunks of fruit), plain gelatin, popsicles made from low sugar juices, low fat custards, and puddings, frozen low cal yogurt All others. Vegetables Tomato or V-8 juice. All others. Milk & Dairy Products Non-fat milk, smooth yogurt, yogurt smoothies, Carnation Instant Breakfast, kefir Ice cream, hard cheese. Bread, cereals, and grain products None All Meat, chicken, fish, and meat substitutes (nuts, tofu, etc.) None All Oils, butter, margarine None All You may add protein powders or consume protein drinks if you wish but since you will only be on this liquid diet for a week that is not really necessary and may result in consuming more calories. -
This is ridiculous and I'm pissed.
azbtrfly replied to Lizzy Fu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like your body is in starvation mode, and it's holding on to everything you eat. The only way I got away with eating that few of calories was when I was taking HCG. Like everyone else said, you need at least 1200 calories and need your protein. Are you at least taking a multi-vitamin? I would also add me a chewable fiber pill and some source of calcium if you arent getting it from food. -
doodlebugsmom - That does seem pretty fast. After I got to my room, they made me stay another 2 1/2 hours, they had a check list of what they wanted me to do before I went home. The worst part after the surgery was having the x-rays, they made me gulp this horrible tasting liquid so that they could do 3 xrays to make sure everything was where it was supposed to be, I wasn't nauseous until after I drank that stuff and it made me want to throw up. After that I went back to my room and laid down for about 30 mins, till the gas pains got to much and I got up and walked around. Then the diarrhea kicked in and I had to run to the bathroom for the next hour, walked a little bit but didn't feel comfortable getting to far from the bathroom. I asked for them to take out the iv but they said I had to eat and drink at least a half bottle of Water before they would consider taking it out. After I ate, and kept it down, they gave me a vicodin.

I'm so glad that I didn't have to do a pre-op diet, I'm on day 3 of my liquid diet and am already tired of it. I'm trying to have some variety but my stomach is growling. I made a broccoli and cheese soup today, bought a package of the frozen steamer pack broccoli and threw it in the blender with 2 pieces of cheese and a little milk, used the soup setting so it was well blended, tasted really good at first but I got tired of it quick.

They gave me two vicodin after I ate something in the hospital, and gave me a prescription that I had to fill when I got home. Make sure to have some motrin or advil too, you can take the small pills or the childrens liquid.

Tricare Prime-- Not overweight long enough?
azbtrfly replied to srhall13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ask that your Dr submit the paperwork, tell him that Tricare does not require it, and if it's his requirement ask for a referral to see a different Dr. As long as you are the 200% overweight, Tricare will approve and within just a few days. They dont have any of the pre-requirements that the other insurance companies have. From start to finish my process took 3 weeks. -
Pain is a little better today and I slept better last night than Tuesday night. My stomach has been growling and I've been hungry, the liquids just don't seem to fill me up. I thought for sure after all the diarrhea after surgery and the liquids the last two days that I would have lost some weight but It's still the same as before surgery.

My doctor advertised a one incision surgery but I got a 4. Guess I should have asked more questions. My right side is hurting today, the nurse said that's where they put the port and that's why it'll hurt a bit more. Hurts the worse when I try to get up and I'm stretching our those muscles. They gave me vicotin and I'm really glad they did, alternating that with naproxin. My incision on the left side opened up, I think it was because my breast was rubbing on it after surgery. It bleed a little and has a small opening. The Dr didn't seem concerned but the nurse said that hers did the same thing and in order to keep the scaring minimal to use some surgigal strips or liquid bandage and close it back up. I could go in and they would do it but it's an hour drive each way. Clear liquids yesterday and liquids today. We went to Costco and bought a Blendtec, so I blending up half spinach, an apple, blueberries, strawberries, plain greek yogurt, kefir and ice, used the juice setting so that there weren't any chunks. For lunch I mixed up some low carb cookie and cream protein and some plain greek yogurt, not too bad, and an extra shot of protein. It took a while to stir it up but I came out creamy. My stomach is still growling, probably since it's just liquids. The nurse said to be careful with the vicodin because it'll cause constipation, but combined with the liquid diet I think it about evens out. The combination of the antibiotics and the IV yesterday It seemed I spent half my time in the bathroom, almost didn't make it twice, but i think I got all of my bowels cleaned out and got a fresh start.

My doctors instructions, said when comfortable - 2 weeks. When did you have your surgery?
-
I survived and am headed home, was a little more painful than I thought but doing much better after I got some jello and broth down and took a vicoden.

Headed in now, dropped the kid off at daycare, be there by 7 and surgery at 830. My mom had been sick for a few days and I took her to the er last night. She has pneumonia and they kept her there over night. Thankfully my husband was able to take off and take me this morning.

If You Had To Gain Weight to Get Lap-Band Covered By Insurance...?
azbtrfly replied to photo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I ask my dr for a referral and was told that she didn't think I would be approved, so I went on a diet and lost 10 lbs, then got the approval letter. My insurance declined me over 5 lbs. I stuffed my face for a week and gained about 5 of it back, then wore the ankle weights and put weights in my pockets and bra. -
No pre-op diet for me, instead I'm eating all the food that I don't plan on having till I've lost at least 50 lbs.

We found another one at Sams Club called Glacial Milk Complete Nutrition, not sure if it's something that they carry all the time, but will be stocking up just in case.
-
I'm a Navy wife too, hubby only got 2 days off work (and he had to use leave) but thankfully my Mom will be here to help me. I work full time but am taking 2 weeks off. I bought some low carb slim fast at Sams Club and some low carb protein powder from Amazon. For vitamins I'm using the Ecodrink, it was $20 for a 30 day supply at Costco, you mix with 16 oz of water and comes with a little bottle, sugar free of course. I've spent hours watching youtube videos and someone had recommended taking a chewable fiber pill, omega 3 (fish oil or flaxseed oil) and chewable papaya enzymes (helps break down the food if it gets stuck).

2 wks after banding and my appetite is out of control!!
azbtrfly replied to butterflysRfree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Anyone who adds Ice Cream will gain weight, the sugar and carbs will spike your blood sugar, make you hungrier and it wont fill you up. I remember and old saying that there's always room for ice cream. -
I buy Raw foods on occasion but couldn't ever stick to 100% raw. I wish that we could get raw milk here but only found raw goat milk. My son and husband loved it but I couldnt ever get used to the taste. I don't agree that dairy is bad for us, but as close as we can get to the natural state of things the better. I will always choose 2% or whole milk, over Skim milk. Did you know that those who are lactose intolerant can drink raw milk? The lactose is highest in the skim milk. My husband has did well on the Caveman diet, but I think that each of us has to find what works for us.

I'm so Disgusted!!!
azbtrfly replied to mattie7632's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've seen my bills to urgent care, billed $120/ tricare paid $20. I have one office that I really love the staff and go to frequently, since it's easier than getting into my Dr on base. I'm glad that they agree to take Tricare but can't believe how little they actually pay them. I went to a different Urgent Care, waited over an hour when I was the only patient there, they saw me for maybe 5 mins and Tricare paid them $200. -
Have you heard of "Hypno-banding"?
azbtrfly replied to Rainydayz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe if they started doing it for donations to rid the world of obesity, that would be worth trying. =) -
Well I ended up gaining 10 lbs and then tried again, got approved no problem. They also switched my stats from a medium frame to a small frame. It looks like mid-March they are switching to the BMI method, that will be much easier.

Just means that you have one small incision instead of the regular 5. They just started doing them in November and I got lucky to have one of the doctors that does it. This is Dr Simpson's website: http://www.drsimpson.net/07_surgery_stories%20%28SS%29/1_SS_1/Single-incision-lap-band-surgery/Single-incision-lap-band-surgery-1.html
