Renee, someone posted a pic on FB 2 days post op, in the hospital, with their lunch tray: SF Jell-O cup, chicken broth and Coffee! I have high hopes for drinking coffee post op - even if it is just a few tiny sips! I get the whole "caffiene dehydrates" but the ratio is like 2 cups Water for every 1 cup coffee. If we are taking maybe 5 sips of coffee, there shouldn't be any dehydration with the 60 oz of water we are supposed to drink daily. I am not a big alcohol drinker, so that part doesn't bother me However, if I want a drink post op, it will prob be something extremely light and only a few sips. I am not trying to pack the liquid pounds on -- Liz, I went to the Kaiser program in 2010 and was not told that. Did the Nut or the Dr tell you no coffee or liquor ever again? They did stress the crossover addictions and how liquor adds pounds easily. The more I read online, the more I realize, every Dr and/or every Bariatric group is so different in their views. The pre and post op diets vary, the heal time, the leak rates and even the hospital times vary. But if your Dr says No.. you can't really fight that without proof. Something had to make him/her say that. Good Luck

Need Help Expert
Day Dreamer replied to mohamadkamare's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am no expert but wanted to ask if you are getting enough Protein? -
Day ??? (maybe 4) of my Helidac therapy! Tummy hurts and feel like poo, so I need to stick it out for another 10 days - surgery is right around the corner.

Congrats!!! I was wondering, what is eating like 2 yrs post op?

Renee, I think this is still an important thread for To-Be Sleevers or recent Sleevers. I am not telling anyone at work. My close family, and friends know and that is it! No one else needs to know... I am very firm in that belief. I really like the drug catel reply. I could picture some uptight co-workers choking on their sparkling Water when I say that... bawhahaha! I plan on replying with the truth - hard work! Outside of that, they are on a need-to-know basis and well, they dont need to know

Will, I agree. It seems like people just disappear! I prefer this site over OH 110%! You guys keep me motivated... and I will admit; I like jumping on those mean people No one will bully in VST when I am around!! LOL

Good luck Susan! You will be reading that bedtime story again in a few nights!!

unflavored or chicken soup flavored protein?
Day Dreamer replied to MeMeMEEE's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I ordered the sample pack from unjury and the sample pack of Syntrex nectar protein. Both shipped very quick (3-4 days), however I am stocking up before my surgery. I like the idea of only getting single serve sizes so I can try them out and see if I want more. http://www.unjury.com/store/protein/unjury-protein/unjury-starter-pack/unjury-starter-kit.html http://www.mybariatricpantry.com/SYNTRAX_NECTAR_PROTEIN_POWDER_SAMPLES_p/nectar-sample.htm -
Ladies...I need advice!
Day Dreamer replied to Amber07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Amber, I think you have touched on a concern for most of us. Losing your hair can be very scary and bad for your self esteem. I was wondering, how much Protein are you getting per day? Hair loss can be due to many things: low protein post WLS, genetics and even certain diseases. Dr Oz did a segment on this as well. www.droxshow.com Good luck and let us know what you find out is causing this!! -
Awwwwwww~! Congrats! You look so pretty pregnant! I have always thought pregnant women were beautiful and glowing. Also, I love to see your little "Sprout" in the signature block when you comment. It is like watching him grow from the inside!! Love it!!!

Yeah I was nervous but this went above and beyond nerves. My hubby drove me to the hospital. I was quickly taken back for pre op prep because the Dr was earlier (Go Him!) and he could see me earlier than expected. The first issue was my blood pressure - a whopping 146/98 HOLY COW~! I never run that high - ever. Some deep breathing and a few minutes later I was being wheeled into the OR. They put the mouth block in and start the drugs. The Dr comes in and ask if I still want the VSG - oh heck yeah!! He smiles and starts my EGD. I closed my eyes because I was now crying and super scared. I suppose they thought I was asleep because he inserted the tube. I began to fuss but couldnt move my arms or legs - I wanted him to know I was awake. They told me I wouldn't feel ANYTHING or know anything that was happening - YET I COULD. I was so scared. The last thing I remember was choking on spit or puke and the nurses were scurrying about to see what was happening. Well seconds later the nurse pushed more drugs after my fussing and I was out. I woke up 20-30 minutes later in recovery and felt fine. My throat hurt like hell though. It hurt to suck on ice chips. About 30 minutes later I was released to go home and off I went. I was shakey and felt nervous on my feet. I slept most of the way home. I plopped in my bed, sprayed my throat with Cloreseptic and sucked on some more ice. I slept for a while and woke up later feeling a little better. I did eat, but it hurt to swallow. My tummy felt rough on the inside. One thing that I didn't like was that the Dr never saw me post op. All the info was given to my hubby and he is really bad at relaying information. My hubby tried to remember what the Dr said and he came up with: Your stomach was extremely inflamed but no hiatal hernia. They found polyps (maybe a mass) and did a biopsy. Now I am waiting to hear from the coordinator or someone to explain what the heck they found and what that means for my surgery. My pre surgery intake is May 19th and surgery is generally within 14 days from that. Don't get me wrong, I think very highly of my surgeon. He is a super nice guy, super easy to talk to, but he left me hanging. I suppose he thought my hubby could give me a clear rundown - hahah - he doesn't know my hubby. Aside from being half awake, feeling the whole first part of the EGD insertion and the super sore throat - things went well. I am happy to wake up from surgery - especially when they tell you there is a chance that you might not ever wake up. Note: don't close your eyes or they will think the meds kicked in and start your EGD. Better to let the meds work their way through and knock you out naturally. I am glad the EGD is over. Time to wait for the results and set my surgery date. My nerves are in overdrive.

Hmmm.. I can't say I am tired of mine. (Although they may not be as big as yours... which may make a difference.) But if I do decide to get the girls done post op... I want a full D Yeah I wanna rock those puppies porn style! Bawhahah!! Oh did I mention I am deafly afraid of surgery and probably won't get implants - a girl can dream right?

Tested positive for H Pylori. Hope this doesn't push back my surgery... ?!?! Going to call the nurse back and ask..
-
Hi Kelly, I just got the call that I tested positive for H Pylori as well. I really hope this does not push back my surgery but I forgot to ask the nurse that called. Do you know if this means we are still at risk for ulcers or  stomach cancer ?!?! Since H Pylori can be contracted via mouth, does this mean I need to have my kids tested?? Anyone ever had the "breath test" for H Pylori? I would NOT want to subject my kids to the EGD!!! Good questions Kelly. Thanks for asking! (and sharing your results!)

I am not a "birther" but in this case I am going to need to see the proof HAHAHAH!!

Grrrrrrrrrr.... men! I am right there with you. My hubby is trying to sabotage in a different way - he all of sudden wants to get me pregnant... before my surgery?? Umm yeah NO! I had to lay the law and I normally don't do that. Sometimes you just need to stand up for yourself. I like the idea of bagging it up and tossing it all out but I know that isn't fair. We can't expect our hubbies to diet just because we got sleeved. It would be nice if they were considerate and ate that stuff outside the house. But they could say the same to us - take your Protein shake outside. LOL. I suppose it will be a test of willpower - but you CAN do it!!!

I have Anthem BCBS and my approval was back within 3 days. BUT I didn't know for 8 days later... I just happen to call BCBS to find out and they said OH yeah it was approved last week!!! Can't hurt to be the squeaky wheel! As for my surgery date, well I still dont have one. I was approved on 4/1/11. I have my pre surgery consult on 5/19/11 and was told surgery will be within 2 weeks of that appt. Why won't they just give me a date? IDK....

I was really excited to see these on the market - that was until I saw the ingredient list. Like Tiffykins, I am not interested in putting more chemicals in my body than I already do. I am not granola either, although we have switched to buying more organic foods and growing some of our own veg. From what I have heard, MIO are pretty tasty and extremely easy to carry in your purse. For me, I drink tons of Water (good ole Army training right there!). So I don't mind the taste of water and if I want something different, Crystal Light has a new PURE version that is ok (try with some unflavored Protein powder!).

Your kidding me, right???
Day Dreamer replied to Michelle Cicerello's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a cold when I had spinal cord surgery last year. I thought for sure they would cancel, but they didnt. In fact, they gave me something to dry out my nasal passages and lungs right before they hit me with the hard drugs. They did check and re-check me for a temp, but since I didn't have one away we went with surgery. Hopefully, your cold will pass by then. If not, call your Dr and find out what his protocol is for surgery when you have a cold. Good luck!! -
Sherri, it breaks my heart to hear this. I am sorry you have to go through this. You sound like a very strong woman though. We are all here for you praying the best for you!!! HUGS

Sleeved on April 8th and had complications
Day Dreamer replied to Jen Jen's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am glad you are doing better. One thing that strikes me is that you speak so highly of a surgeon that all but lied to you. You said he told you that there was an ulcer, yet no one can find this ulcer? I think we all need to forgive and forget but in order to do that we must face the facts right in front of us. Also, you are lucky to find an US surgeon to take your case. There are a few people on the forum that were not able to get a Dr so easily after they had complications with their VSG done in MX. Again, I am happy you are doing well. Your story is scary but it needs to be told. Hugs. -
I haven't even been sleeved yet and I started my collection of tiny plates and even kid sized silverware!! You are not alone in this addiction!
